  1. I bought a hard top for my 2003 cab and now the remote will not work. Is this a coincidence, or is the top blocking my signal some how? As soon as the top was installed, the remote quit working. I went to a Autozone to get a new battery and they tested my key and battery & said it was fine. I have been reading the TSB on the 996 DIY on remote extended range and wondering if this would fix my problem. Anyone else experience this and have advice? Thanks- John
  2. Anyone have a tiptronic ATF filling hose that is needed for 2002 & newer Mercedes tips that they would sell or rent? A vendor that has one in stock would also be a great help- I have tried Pelican, Sunset, Suncoast, Brumos, Orlando, & ATL warehouse. Other solutions are welcomed at this point. Thanks- John
  3. Wow- thanks very much Loren. I had called Brumos, Suncoast, Sunset, Pelican & you where the only that could find it. Thanks again- John
  4. Does anyone know a part number for the Porsche charging hose that is used to fill 2002 and newer tiptronics with ATF? It was mentioned in the 996 maintenance tutorials; tiptronic fluid & filter change by PILFILR. I called Sunset Imports as he recommended but they can't find it and asked that I find a part #. I also PM'ed PILFILR, but thought maybe someone might know in case he is out of pocket. My daily driver is up on jack stands just waiting for ATF so I would really like to find one of these filler hoses. Thanks- John
  5. I have removed the engine and transmission as one unit from my 2003 c2 with mercedes tiptronic. Does anyone know if I must pull the starter before I can seperate the trans. from the engine? Thanks- John
  6. Got a post on Rennlist that said an ATV jack from Harbor Freights works well so I'm on my way! Still could use any info on the Mercedes tiptronic- my shop manual has nothing on it. John
  7. What should I buy to lower the eng. & trans. with, an ATV jack or motorcycle jack, or something else?
  8. Thank you Ptech & RFM, I now see the light. I will now start reading the pulling the engine section of the work shop manual. This is my first DIY on the car, so I feel a little like I do when I am about to get off the plane in Las Vegas. Hope it turns out a little better than those trips. John
  9. RFM can you tell me the silly things I have to do to remove the trans. only? Car is on jack stands with alot of stuff removed in hopes of a person like you responding that actually knows why this can't be done. I am on 3 different forums trying to learn how to attempt this- you are the first one to possibly say you may know the problems in pulling the MB tip of the 2003 carrera. I was told indirectly from a porsche tech something about the torque converter bolts. Can not learn more since tech is on vacation. I am willing to do silly things to remove it without removing the engine- wouldn't be the first time I did something silly! Thanks- John
  10. I saw 2 posts on Rennlist yesterday that said for a 2002 and newer tiptronic 996's that the engine must be dropped to replace the IMS bearing. I am expecting my IMS bearing today from LN and was hopefull to install it myself thinking that I could just drop the transmission to install it. All posts I have read in the past have stated that they just dropped the trans, not the engine untill yesterday... Any info would be appreciated, as I don't think I am ready to drop the engine & trans. myself as my first DIY on this car. Thanks- John
  11. That must be what it is- thanks. I replaced my ignition housing and switch yesterday with a new one from my Porsche dealer. Now I can't get the key out when I turn the car off. Before I replaced it, the key would not turn occasionly but I never had a problem removing it.
  12. What is the cable that goes to the ignition housing? Almost looks like a speedo cable.
  13. I have been following the tutorial by dmcole to replace the ignition lock & switch. All was going smoothly untill I tried to rotate beauty ring around the key cylinder to the 7:00 position so you can insert the paper clip in the holes that line up in the beauty ring and the key cylinder so it will release- mine won't budge. Anyone know a trick to this step?
