  1. Paul, I'm starting to have the same problem again (and I'm not surprised). I will probably take a look under the car this weekend. Now, the last time that I did this I found in a number of places (mainly on the passenger side, maybe a foot from edge of car) two pipes (assuming with cable inside) attached to the car by a "sponge" like material (1-2inches long), but I did not see any plates. I will check where you have on the picture above, apparently on passenger side, near center. Couple questions; I only need to remove the plastic protection under the car and I will be able to see it? Also, can I use a battery cleaner spray? Thank you very much for all your help on this. Regards,
  2. The more I hear about this “IMS” failure issue the more I don’t understand. I mean I understand what the problem is but I don’t understand if it is something that happens on 996, 997 model 2005 , all Porsches, etc… I spoke to a mechanic once and he asked me if I have a 996, I said “ no 997”…his answer was don’t worry this is a 996 issue. Then I read on a forum that it actually affects all Porsches but on different scale, the newer the lower chances of braking… Now, yesterday I found a forum that says that if you have a 997 2006 model you are good…I guess one question here is how can I find out looking at my VIN (WP0AA29986S7….) if I have to worry about it? Mine is a 2006…that is as far as I can tell. Also any good places where I can find what exactly in my car from the VIN? (not even sure if this is possible) Is this IMS issue just a big “propaganda” and we are all making a bigger deal than what really is or should we all worry about it? Thank you.
  3. Thank you for the info Paul. This past weekend I got a new battery under the warranty, if this does not solve the problem I will get under the car and try to find the plate. Leonardo.
  4. Paul, Mine is manual. Are you saying that is that simple (just removing air intake) to replace the cable on a manual? If replacing the battery does not work, do you think that it is simple enough that someone with very little experience could do it? PS Thank you very much for all your responses and help!!!
  5. Over the weekend I lifted my car and look at the connections under it but could not see much, but I'm not sure if I was able to find the location that Paul mentioned. Today I took my car to a local mechanic. After having the car all day, he told me that everything looks fine. He ran tests on the charging system and battery and everything was good. At this point my guess is battery, maybe a cell is bad and not charging correctly. The next time that the battery get low and I begin having problems (probably in 2 weeks) I will take it to Pep Boys for replacement, since it has 3yr warranty. P.S.I called the local dealer and asked how much would be to replace the "cable loom"...$1300!!! Local mechanic, $500...funny.
  6. Loren, Do you know if the voltage regulator on the alternator can replaced separately, as on 996's?
  7. I just checked the battery, there is a sticker on the side saying that it was shipped on NOV. 08, so it is not the original. I was not able to see the water level.
  8. Just did. I don't believe this is the problem since the battery was removed for recharging and then tightened again...it was good for a week and now bad again.
  9. I have a 997.1 Carrera from Oct. 2005 with 50K miles. Lately my car began having a hard time starting up. The engine would begin turning, crank for a few times and then start. That happened for maybe a month until got to the point where starting was taking more than normal and then finally did not start. Luckily the is a hill (one of two hills in Houston) next to my apt, so I was able to put the car on first and use the slope to start. When this happen, I took the car to AutoZone and got the battery recharged. The car was starting better than ever!!! It did not think twice, perfect starts. That lasted for a week, today the car began having problems again and it will likely not start in the next few days. So I took the car again to AutoZone, the guy checked the car with a voltmeter and said that the problem was not the battery, but the alternator. I went online searching for alternator and procedures on how to get it done. While doing some research I’ve learned that there is a common problem with the 997.1, the cable loom. Apparently there was even a service campaign to replace () Now the question is, how do I know if it is the cable or the alternator? Also, is this something covered by Porsche based on the link above? If not, any idea of cost? As far as the car, the only problem is to start…when it has started everything works fine, it does not try to die, nothing…like if there is no problem. Also, before starting everything is also fine…radio, lights, alarm, etc… Help!!!
  10. Do you think that I have any chances? The warranty was out in November 2009. Should I go back to the same dealer (there are several in Houston), should I send I letter directly to Porsche USA? Thank you very much for your help!!!
  11. Hi, I have a 2005 997 Carrera Manual - Houston, Tx. Sometimes when I'm leaving a red light or controlling the clutch on a ramp a hear a grinding noise. When the car was under the warranty, I took it to the dealership and they lubricate the clutch switch and the noise went away for a while. Then it happens again, and maybe a third time. Every time they lubricate the shift it would be fine for a month or more and then back to make the same noise. One day one of the shift cables broke (day after the warranty ended)they fixed under warranty. Now the noise is back. If I let the clutch go without pressing much the gas paddle it will not make a noise, but if I move both at the same time...most the time it will cause it to happen. The car drives completely normal, no problem changing gears (first can be a bit difficult sometimes..but I believe this is normal)...so I'm not in the rush to fix it...but I would like to know if anybody has the same problem or know what it is. Thank you for your help!!!
  12. Where do I find the TSB for the navigation system? I have been looking at the documents menu but I cannot find.
  13. Perfect!!! I got the HEET and by the end of the day yesterday my light wasn't coming on anymore!!! Thank you very much!!! Regards, Leonardo
  14. If it is just bad gas (crossing fingers)...will a octane booster and filling up with a good gas do it??? Will I have to ask someone to reset the engine light or it goes off by itself??
  15. No, I have not...but I have to say that I did put gas the day before. Do you think that this could be the reason behind all these errors? Is this an easy fix?
  16. Ok so, I started my car yesterday and I got a engine light…took to an auto center and they are saying that I have the following errors: P0300, P0301, 302, 303 (basically all cylinders) and P2187 for bank 1 and bank2…ok, so what is going on ???!!! This is what I know: P03000's - random multiple misfire on cylinders P2197 - BK1 and BK2 - too lean idle speed Help!!!
  17. Thank you very much for your reply! I was told before by the dealer that it was normal, but I just want to be sure. Regards,
  18. Most the time when I'm backing up into a parking spot with a sharp turn my front wheels/tires make a noise...maybe as if I'm dragging sideways because of the near 90º turn. It also happen on a sharp slow turn moving forward. Is this normal?
