  1. Sorry, but this looks like a waste of money to me. Not really your fault, as these companies should not be allowed to sell such products.

The reflectors in the halogen headlights are not designed to accomodate the HID light bulb. The end result is an overbright light, with a ton of glare and unfocused beam. You will be blinding oncoming cars with an extreme amount of glare because the light is unfocused.

Read on below, the NHTSA has ruled that these kits are illegal as the beam blinds oncoming drivers and is unsafe.

    NHTSA ILLEGAL LIGHTING CRACKDOWN CONTINUES

Continuing its crackdown against manufacturers and suppliers of illegal lighting equipment, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) today announced its decision that high intensity discharge (HID) conversion kits produced by a Texas company do not comply with federal safety standards.

The owner of ASTEX USA, a supplier of aftermarket HID kits, was ordered to conduct a recall campaign and provide a no-cost solution to the customer. The company is based in Dayton, TX. When installed in a motor vehicle, the HID kits "can be expected to produce excessive glare to oncoming motorists and others," NHTSA said in its decision.

To date, NHTSA has investigated 24 HID conversion kit suppliers; all investigations have resulted in recalls or termination of sales.

"These illegal lights are a potential hazard to those who share the road," said NHTSA Administrator Jeffrey Runge, MD. "And we will continue to pursue those offering them for sale and violating the law."

Companies that sell, import or manufacture non-compliant equipment could face substantial civil penalties, NHTSA said.

Nah, Not really a waste of money. Atleast it improved my lighting and visability. Plus im not blinding other drivers as I live in Miami and get a :censored: load of traffic daily. Im sure im bound to run into someone who will flash at me to turn off my lights but, not one yet. I've also driven with other people who have been in front of me and everything is ok. No blinding. Conclusion.....dont believe everything you read unless you have tried it yourself. I dont mean to be rude either.

  2. Looks good.  What kit did you use?

I bought it off ebay. JDM 8000k kit for about $280.

Beats the heak out of those yellow bulbs it had!

Took me about one hour to install taking my time to make sure

    i did everything right.

    Thanks

    Hey there,

How's the brightness on these? I am considering getting these for my Boxster.

I currently use the fake bulbs off of ebay, not too bright :/

    Thanks,

    mike

Brightness is alot better than stock and 10 times better than the fake bulbs. I once tried those bulbs and you cant even compare to these hid conversion kit. Im sure that the litronics original kits are better but these aren't too far behind.

  3. Ive noticed that when I start it in the morning It runs a little less then it should. Give it 30 seconds for it to warm up a bit at it runs awesome in the cold. Maybe some type of saftey mechanism so you dont rev it up when the engine is cold and oil has not circulated.

My acura had that mechanism which it shut down the Vtech until it warmed up. Not that it has anything to do with this but its just a thought.

  4. Hi guys. Im sure you've seen this many times. Ive done my search but found many different answers.  :help:

Basically which spark plugs should we use. Ive got a 2002 Boxster 2.7

Which Bosch and which Beru model numbers are they?

If anyone has a site where I can get them cheap I would appreciate it too.  ;)

    Thanks

    Will these work?

  6. I had a similar problem with the ignition switch. The lights would not work or the a/c because the switch wouldnt come back to the normal position after crancking the engine. Dealer changed it now everything works. thanks warranty!

I had a panicked call from my wife on the autobahn with a similar headlights problem (and it was raining and the wipers didn't work either)  Here is how to prevent it:

Apparently the ignition key can turn "too far" which causes the headlights (and my wipers) to not work properly.

When I start the car, I now always check to see that the ignition key is back at its "seated" position (you will be able to feel this when you turn the key) and not too far over.

    good luck.

    Hi guys

My 00 986 seems to have had a headlight failure of some description. When the switch is turned to "on" the lights are on but they are in parker mode, on but dull. High beam and driving lights still work, but not low beam.

Can anyone suggest where to start looking?

The switch seems to work fine, as it dims the interior, activates the driving lights etc, its just that low beam is very very dull

    Cheers

  7. Slight problem with my ignition. I turn the key to start the engine. for some reson the key does not click back all they to the normal (after start) position. so the engine is running but the lights on the dash stay on and the a/c wont turn on.

When I manually turn it just a bit (5mm)conter clockwise, the lights turn off and the a/c turns on (how its supposed to be). You guys think a little wd-40 will do the job?

    Any thoughts? :help:

    Thx

  8. I purchased my 2000 Boxster S with 16,500 miles on it 7 months ago. It now has 20,000 miles on it. It has a slight vibration that feels like it is coming from the rear end. You feel it in the seat of your pants, not the steering wheel. You notice it at speeds as low as 25 mph. It doesn't get any better or worse with speed. My local Porsche dealer doesn't have any tire equipment so they sent me to a local tire shop. They road force balanced my tires using their Hunter 9700 machine, software revision 4.3. All of the tires could be perfectly balanced, were not out of round and were true. The front right tire had a road force reading of 30 lbs. I was told. He said I might feel some vibration through the steering wheel. The car is now no better. I was out of town for 4 days and left the car at the dealer. I told them I had the tires balanced by the shop they recommended. When I returned, they never put the car on a lift, they were only concerned about the tire balance. Could this problem be some type of engine/trans mount, CV joint or suspension problem. It appears that my dealer is not going to put forth any effort on my car until I buy new tires. If I spend $1000 and the problem still exists, I will be furious.

Is this vibration you are talking about at 3500 rpm?

  9. I have a 98 Boxster, I have been driving with great pleasure and this is my 6th Porsche. It has been 20.000 miles since the last pad change.

Recently I have several clutch issues and I showed it to the dealer but dont feel comfortable with what is being said. Dealer said pad and linkage requires change (estimated $4,000). I would like to ask your opinion.

3 weeks ago, I had hard time keeping the shift in the 1st gear, as soon as I try to accelerate it pops out and when I use Rear, it starts to shake.

2 weeks ago, no issues above, 1st and R is working great but hearing a sound in 2nd and 3rd (ad-hoc basis).

This week, I am back to situation where I was in 3 weeks ago.

Linkage sounds logical but pad exchange doesnt sound right since 2,3,4,5 seems like working good and I dont feel like it is slipping.

    Thank you

I am in Palo Alto, who will be a good person to fix this?

Im not a expert on this but, on past experience on another car, my sycro's went bad, in this case your 1st - 2nd syncro might be bad. That cause my gears to pop out of gear when accelerating....

  10. Which dealer did you take it to and who was your service advisor?

okbye2 - thanks.  but you didn't see anything leaking before taking it in?

Honestly... it must have been minimal to even notice. The mechanic at the dealer noticed it while he had it on the lift (im guessing) i was lucky that they told me that it was leaking and they changed it. if you dont have any stains on your drive way then i wouldnt worry.... do you still have warranty? if so then you should take advantage and take it in. I was really surprised on how honest they were.

They changed also both of my window motors even though I had a problem with only one of them.

Since they changed the rear main seal I also got a free oil change out of this one.

I took it to "The Collection" here in Miami. Good service but they took a long time...about 1 week

  12. 2002 Boxster 2.7

What are some things I should have changed or looked at before my warranty is expired. "Common defects" I think is what Im trying to say.

I just don't want it to expire and then something finally breaks when I could of looked at it first and applied it to the warranty!

Today I dropped it off anyway and they are changing the oil seal separator, window regulator, and something in the exhaust that is making a noise.

Any suggestions on things I should look at that always break on these cars?

    Thanks

  13. I now its normal for the windows to go down about 1/4 of an inch when you open or close the door.

Mine feels like its taking a little too long to go down when I open the door. Sometimes it feels like the window is rubbing on the top when I open it therefore, the door doesn't open smoothly.

    Any cures for this?

    Thanks in advance....
