  1. Hey y'all, I would like to de-snorkel my car, but I'm having some issues removing the vent. There seems to be a rubber plate that I'm having trouble getting my hands under to reach the clips. From what I felt around the backside of the vent there didn't appear to be any clips. After I take the one screw out the top right corner has some movement in and out, but the rest of it is pretty solid. Any suggestions?

  2. Ok, so the title asks my question. Royal Purple or Mobil1 oil? I need to do an oil change here pretty soon. I just bought my '00 Boxster 2.7L with 56k miles on it a month ago and the gentleman I bought it from said it had been about 9k since he last changed the oil. My other truck is an '88 that I've had for four years and I just take it in to the nearest, cheapest oil change station for 20 bucks and have them put whatever in it because it's just a daily commuter that's still running after 260k miles. I have many different people tell me different things about these two brands of oil. They tell me they swear by Royal Purple, on the other hand someone told me that RP is over-priced since it's really only beneficial if you're constantly pushing 130 mph. I know Porsche recommends Mobil1. Can anyone give me some input. I would really appreciate it. I just got back from O'Reilly's and he said it would be cheaper for me to buy a case of RP than the two, six pack cases of Mobil1. That price difference isn't a big deal right now, but I want to know what y'all think.

  3. phillipj thanks a ton for the Pedros Garage website, some really helpful things on there!

Por911, I'm not the most mechanically inclined person in the world. The de-snorkel mod sounded easy enough from the thread I read somewhere on here and the 3rd rad install would be nice, but I don't think I'm that knowledgable and don't really want to cut into my front bumper without knowing what I'm doing. I was thinking about a short shift kit, though. I don't like having to reach way out in front of me to grab the stick when it's in 3rd or 5th. Exhaust is at the very bottom of my list. I don't have access to any type of metal shop equipment and I'm not very knowing about that either.

  4. Hello fellow enthusiasts

I made my first Porsche purchase a few weeks ago and was thinking about some possible upgrades, or hacks, if you will. After perusing through these forums a few days there were a lot of ideas I would really like to attempt to work out. First off, I have a 2000 Boxster base model. Silver with black interior and top. Some of the smaller things I was thinking about doing was converting those hard plastic arm rests on the doors into padded ones. Someone posted a thread on here about it and it was pretty cheap and easily do-able. Some of the other things I was thinkin about doing are light upgrades. HID headlights(5k) and LED tail lights. The biggest project I would really like to add would be a DVD navigation system like the Kenwood DNX-6140. But due to the expense and extent of work, I have to make that more of a long term project.

I do have one question for maintenance of my car. Driving on the GA roads, there is quite a bit of loose gravel. What is the best way to repair all the little paint chips? They're all over and while I'm waxing my car I notice them all and it looks terrible. Any suggestions would be greatly helpful.

Let me know what y'all think.
