I have a 1999 996 c2 cabriolet. The rear lid wont open. The front latch opens, the windows go down and then nothing. You can hear hear the periodic click of something trying to happen but it never does.
hat do you think. Sounds like big time aggravation.

you know after thinking about it it might not be overspraay at all, the car is silver and maybe the black has actually faded overtime

Howdy, I have a 1999 996 cabriolet and I had a few dings in the front bumper and had to have it repaired and repainted. Unfortunately it seems there is a little overspray on the black plastic inserts on either sides of the license plate. Anyone know how to get rid of this? Is ther a product that I can apply to get this off or do I havr to change? I'm the only one who see's it but it will drive me nuts
Thanks

I have a 1999 911 Cab, does anybody have a reasonable, dependable repair shop in my area? Northern NJ,
Try Share Tree in Morristown.
It might be a little too far from where I live :notworthy:

Pads are really easy to replace - it's not uncommon to shortcut on the vibration dampners (I do it - as do many I know), especially if you don't happen to care about squeaking (or can't hear it due to stupidly loud exhausts). You DO NOT have to change rotors every time you change pads (don't let a dealer convice you otherwise). As long as your rotors meet minimum thinkness specs and dont have excessive (or any if you are paranoid) radial cracks, you'll be fine on the rotors (watch for any cracks that connect from hole to hole, or that reach the edge of the rotors). You could easily get 3 or 4 pads per rotor set (depending on the use of the car - more track, less rotor life). Loren is right as usual, pad material also makes a big difference, but I would bet that at least both fronts would be squeaking if there were track pads (at least mine do;) ). All and all a new set of pads and vibration dampners isn't very expensive and is an easy DIY with even minimal mechanical skills (of course it is your brakes, so if you aren't comfortable - don't do it!). Good Luck.
Thank You

Is the clutch height adjustable on my 1999 996 cabriolet or do I have to replace the clutch. If so how much would you say a clutch costs on this baby.
-
Likely pads. Did you install the last pads or previous owner? Could be track pads or could they did not put new vibration dampeners in.
I would do new pads, dampeners, and check out the brake rotors too.
Thanks, that sounds resonable to me. Will do

I have 1999 996 cabriolet. One of my brakes is sqeaking when the car gets hot. Does it mean I need new pads or do you have to change the rotors every time you change brakes?

I have a 1999 911.996 cabriolet anda red warning light came on on the right side of the temperature gauge this morning. The temperature did not go up it was on the 8 in the 180. What does this mean? Is this a sensor to monitor fluid levels?
is it flashing? if so your coolant level needs to be topped off
yes it was flashing, then I think it stayed red when I shut off the car with the key in the ignition

I have a 1999 /996 cab. I was wondering what is a normal operating temperature reading on this baby. When i am in traffic the needle goes up to the zero on the 180 degrees marker. is this this acceptable.
Thanks

I have the same year, make and model. This is very common for our year. Usually this is a faulty seat buckle issue, but it's harder to solve than one would like. The first fix is to update the seat buckle from the offending side (driver or passenger). But the underlying issue has something to do with the wiring, of course, and Porsche has created a "kit" that is supposed to be a permanent fix. I've had both buckles replaced and the "kit", but my light still comes back on from time to time. I may resort to taking it to a dealer next time--instead of my independent Porsche specialist mechanic. Good luck and keep us posted.
Thanks it is the passenger buckle. I will fix it eventually. My porsche guy has buckles for me. Thanks for the help. In the meantime I put piece of round velcro over the light to block it. It was driving me crazy until i the have time to repair.

I have a 1999 996 with 30,000 miles on it
It seems to be using a little bit oil, no leaks or smoke. The dipstick looks fine but the reader on the dashboard is on line. What is normal oil consumption for this baby?
