  1. I've recieved my new mud flaps and wheel arch extensions and want to paint them to match the body (silver). I'm also considering removing and painting the small wind deflectors that are in front of the each wheel. Any recommendations or advice? Does anyone have photos of a Cayenne that this has been done on?

    Matt

If it is made as the same softish plastic/rubber material as the OEM Boxster "flaps" then you will likely find that the body/paint shop is unwilling to guarantee the paint job. The more "flex" in the material, the more likely the paint bond will crack over time. It shouldn't really matter unless you believe they will be getting a lot of action from rock impacts.

I had my mudflaps painted about about 2 months the paint pealed off and looked horrible

  2. I broke just the taller guide fin. The large one that's on the in-board.

I must be crazy. I thought it about this thing all night on Friday. The fact that I broke that fin and that I put a few scratches on the lens drove me crazy (I know better, I should have been more careful). I ended up buying a new unit from Sunset for just under $500.

I've had stuff happen like this before. I do some small damage to a car. Something that doesn't hamper usage. But, it bugs me ever time I look at it for the entire time that I own it. So, instead I just bit the bullet and bought a new one. The old one is still very usable and the scratches are small. I'll probubly buy the old one on Ebay with photos of the small damage to recoup a few bucks.

Thanks for everyone's input. I don't know what I would do without this site. It's saved me much time, energy and money. All of you are great!!!

    Matt

I know how you feel. I also hate to break something, even minor like that. I actually broke the same fin while changing one of my side marker bulbs. I put the headlight assembly back in place, and it seems stable so I left it. I haven't had a problem.

I also have a Crystal Silver Cayenne. I'd love to see a photo with the new red badge. I saw a Cayenne in Munich, Germany last month that had a Porsche crest on the rear hatch instead of a Cayenne badge. I thought it looked awesome. I don't know if this was a modification or if this is how it is done in Germany, but it looked really good. Another option to consider.

I have lost a headlamp on the highway totaly gone destroyed HID and all cost 720 for the lamp assembly and 160 for my HID :(

  3. I also agree that using a heat gun (or hair dryer) should be used to warm up the adhesive, but I would NOT recommend using a credit card. Use dental floss. After removing the badge, I use a very light rubbing compound, like Meguiar's Scratch-X to even out the area where the badge use to be. After rubbing out the area, apply some wax - don't go naked.

I have replaced the badge on mine used some goof off to remove excess adhesive

    :)

  4. I understand that Cayenne's don't like led trailer lights. But aha Uhaul sells a part-- P/N 39008 Led Light Trailer Module for $29.95 that "allows VW's, Porsche, and Audi to pull a trailer with led lights - use only with led lights". But this adapter plug transitions from the 7pin round to a 4pin flat trailer connector. What do you use to tow a trailer that has both brakes and led lights and uses a 7pin round connector? Has anyone opened up one of the uhaul adapters to see what magic is inside besides the transition from 7 to 4?

There is a adapter from POLLACK thats a round adapter to a 4 pin i use it to trailer my jetski....Check my posts :)

  5. Hi, hope I can stimulate some kwik and kwality feedback on this one! Have an offer to purchase Cayenne Turbo with damaged cylinder head and one piston and Cayenne S with frontal and rightside (passenger) body damage. Can I transplant S engine into Turbo chassis and bolt on the turbochargers and intake/exhaust manifolds? Has anyone out there tried this b/4? Since both cars have 4.5Ltr engines I trust it should be possible?? Please help out a brother to make kwik decision cos both vehicles are being sought by other 'mad' drivers. B)

seems like it would be possible but you never know with these p-cars

  6. So i removed my cd changer but once removed my speakers dont work...I plug it back in and its fine....any ideas how to take the CD Changer out and have my speakers working?

    Marco

The fibre optic cable is a 'ring' ie to work it must either route through the changer or 1. the cable replaced or 2. a loop back cable added. The later I think you can get but it isn't a porsche part.

    would it work though?

  7. hi, I have (another) problem with my cayenne turbo '03. The button for the rear lid (next to the fuel lid opener button) in the drivers door doesn't work. I have checked the switch and it is fine. When I use my remote, the lid opens so the motor is fine as well. When I pull the switch, I hear a small click in the fuse box. Not quite sure what to do next, any hints/ideas??

    Thanks, frank.

How do you know the switch is ok? it might be that lower driver side switch i assume your CTT isnt under warranty?

  8. I installed a BEL RX-65 in my 2004 Cayenne S with the "Smartplug" system for hardwiring. It was fairly simple. I used the suction cup windshiled mount just under the rear view mirror, and and I mounted the Smartplug controller on the dash, right by the a-pillar. I ran the wire down underneath the trim for the a-pillar and tapped into a switched fuse, so the unit turns off when the ignition is off. I attached a pic of the Smartplug unit, and of the installation of the controller on my dash.

How is the Bel RX? i heard mixed reviews

i mounted mine left of rearview mirror

I tried several different spots, and just under the mirror seemed to me to offer the best visibility and the least obstruction for the radar detector.

Do you have a pic showing how you mounted yours?

    sure do

PS Valentine 1 told me to mount the device next to or above rearview mirror for the most accurate readings. What are your thoughts? I also had it below the Mirror but the rear seats were blocking the rear-detector.

  10. It looks like there have been 81 views of this offer for a Work on Cars Day....and no one is interested.??? Is it becasue there are no folks geographically situated to take advantage of this offer.....or perhaps the group would prefer another venue? We would really like to get something started that could work into some great meet-ups and the exchange of some oversight, expertise and help.

I'm looking at a Boxster in the Bay Area tomorrow (supposed to be an "us" car, but really its for my wife). I'm in Orangevale, have never owned a Porsche before, and have no idea where the good service places are, etc. However I know what a wrench is, and I'm certainly interested in doing some of this stuff myself. First step is getting the car...

    Rich

Im interested but im in NJ :(
