  1. East Bay, thank you. I use Valhalla in Lafayette for simple stuff (oil-brake bleed) they are better at carrera's and vintage air cooled in my opinion, still very competent but mentioned they dont see 996 turbo"s Also have used Kahler's, like them and owner has a 02 996 TT but they question aftermarket stuff and once again work on lots of cars including mercedes and audi. Looking for someone that is in to turbos and offer advice on quirks that are common to these cars.

    anybody you suggest?

  2. I dynoed before and after when I did the flash. I gained 88 HP which is awesome but actually the other aspects of the flash are what make it worth it for me. The flash made everything more responsive, it delivers 1.2 bar regularly and idle, turbo spool etc is all improved dramatically.

    hope this helps.

  3. Wondering if anyone in Northern California, San Francisco Bay Area knows of a exceptional techinician/mechanic for my 996 turbo. Looking for the the shop that has lots of insight on these cars other than dealer. I have a few upgrades on car and am ready for a major service, possible clutch. Shop I use currently is great, but they service alot of Porsches and hoping to find someone that is extra knowlegable about 996 turbos.

Any suggestions with a contact name of person would be appreciated.

  4. I have read several posts regarding a hesitation in 996 turbo and replys have included "varicam" as the cause. I have similar issue i think, replaced plugs, tested or had "reviewed" coils etc. All is fine. What is Varicam doing that makes this issue happen and why? I am still trying to decide if this is something I want to pursue with Dealer or elsewhere.

    thank you

  5. Remap or ECU flash was worth every penny. And I agree with whomever wrote it is as good as worst component. I changed plugs ,DV's and added silcone boost hoses. My car had a fab-speed exhaust already. It performs excellent. Turbos spool sonner, idles stronger and compliments car overall. I used Softronics, talk to Dan Mermelstein- very helpful and makes package deals for all described above.

  6. My 996TT feels like it is surging sometimes when I drive it. What I mean is that it feels like it is picking up power not cutting out. I have never owned a all-wheel drive car prior to this and perhaps it is just the way it feels when engaging front wheels or shifting power to front - perhaps. I recently did some upgrades including new plugs, had coils inspected at this time and everything is working perfect and performing well. I just get this weird sensation when driving sometimes that i cant interpert as potential motor or ignition issues. I dont particularly like the all wheel drive. Car feels light in the front end to me as opposed to my older 74 911. Car has 19 inch rims on it, Pilot tires (which are hard and noisy) and Row suspension which is stiffer than stock of course. Maybe this is the way it is and I am being picky and need to adapt or maybe there is something that needs to be addressed.

If you have a free moment and have any insight to offer I would appreciate it.

apologize for spelling errors. I am a "wrench" not a english teacher :)

  7. Thanks everyone for your input. Based on Loren's contribution and my desire to live i will be passing on install of these.

Alex, i was buying from a buddy for a couple hundred bucks. They were used for a year or two and he changed interior of car for with roll bar belts etc? I will see if he wants to sell and let you know contact info.

  8. Preparig to put a clutch into my 99TT 2001. I have flashed my car and have some other power additives (bolt on) and can tell my clutch is not gonna last much longer with new driving style. With increase in HP and boost I am looking at RS clutch from suncoast. There name is mentioned frequently and seem reputable. Anyone have one of these clutch packages installed or have a suggestion on what clutch to purchase which works reliably for day to day street driving and will possibl be a improvement on stock replacement?

    Thank you :thankyou:
