  1. Light came on driving home tonight - just after driving over a rough section of road. Got home and shut off car. Waited a few mins and restarted. Ware light went off. Could the rough road cause a sensor to throw a false reading? Anything i should check? Bill MY99 boxster 5 speed
  2. I have a device that I can plug into the OBDII port so when the weather is a bit better I see what it says. Thanks.
  3. Could not help asking - how do you know the light is on when the hood is closed? :P Also, not sure if non-cab's do this but on my Boxster I get a single beep if the center console is not closed all the way.
  4. I'm guessing there is no easy way to correct the error?
  5. Speedo reads and indicates 75mph on the digital part of the guage. Needle appears to match. Using my GPS I get an indicated 70mph. Tach just touching 3000rpm in 5th gear. Wheels/tires have been upgraded from Factory 17" twists to 18" with factory spec tires (225/40 F and 265/35 R). Is it common to be off by 5mph? Is there a way to adjust the speedo? Thanks, Bill 1999 Boxster Manual
  6. I have gotten into the habit of looking at the sensor at the base of the windshield to make sure it's flashing. Bill
  7. Looking in the PET I see lock cylinders available with and w/o stipulated lock numbers. If I purchase a ignition lock cylinder w/o stipulated lock number can that cylinder then be 'keyed' by a locksmith to match my door key? Trying to get the ignition to match the door and center console locks - since I have 2 different ones I don't know which of the 2 locks would match my VIN (but since 2 (door and center console) of the 3 locks match it might be safe to say the door is the original). Still can't think how this got this way (and don't have access to the previous owners) - doubt you would change the center console lock if the door lock got buggered for some reason. Bill
  8. Can you explain what a "stipulated" ignition switch is?
  9. Has anyone tried these bushings? http://www.allzim.com/acatalog/Horn_Return_Bushings__993.html#aZIM_2e347_2e823_2e00 On second thought - just noticed that they want $20 each and you need 4 so you might as well buy the whole frame that comes with the bushings. Bill MY99 Boxster
  10. Takes 5 mins to pull the ignition switch - looking in the service manual it looks like a lot more work to pull the door lock with the airbag and such. Or am I missing something? Thanks. Bill
  11. The door and center storage are keyed alike but different than the ignition on my 99 Boxster - can the ignition be re-keyed to match the door?
  12. Steering wheel press works fine. I'm used to getting a arming chirp with my non-Porsche cars so I assumed it did too. Will try arming the alarm with one of the doors open and see if it chirps then. Thanks. Bill
  13. When I bought my MY99 Boxster the car failed inspection due to horn not working. Horn was replaced by local independent shop but there is no chirp when the alarm is armed. Any idea what is going on? Also, I have never setoff the alarm so I'm not sure the horn works for that either. Is there a way to setoff the alarm via the key remote (like the panic button VW has on their remotes). Thanks, Bill
  14. Using the Durametric tool to read the fault codes is there any way to tell when they were thrown? Thanks. Bill Boxster 99MY 5-speed
  15. Look good and the Co is just down the road from me here in Utah. Thanks.
  16. Picture would be great if you have one. Thanks.
  17. Need to paint the lug nuts on my '99 Boxster - what color and type/brand of paint is suggested? Thanks, Bill
  18. The D3 is no longer available - what is a good replacement? Thanks, Bill MY1999 Boxster Manual
  19. Grabbed the top and pulled it closed instead of just allowing the motor to close it and now thevwindows go all the way up. So the problem is the microswitch. Are theaseveasy / cheap to fix? Bill
  20. Battery was disconnected to repair a horn problem. Windows will now not roll fully up ( will only go up about 3/4) when top is closed but will roll up fully with top down. Tried doing the window standardization procedure in Bentley book. With top down I rolled window up and held for a count of 30. Book seems to indicate this is done with the top closed but window will not roll fully up in that position. This procedure worked for me before. Is there a time limit after battery disconnect and doing the sync? It's probably been a couple of days since battery was disconnected/ Am I missing something? BTW - Is this mentioned anywhere in the factory supplied owners manual? I can only find a short mention in the Bentley book. Thanks. Bill
  21. Got home and gave it a shot with no success - dropped the top and bingo it worked.. Found reference to this procedure in the Bentley shop manual ( all 3 sentences) and it says that the top must be closed for this procedure - is this a typo or when they say closed don they mean in the stored position? Confusing. Anyway everything is fine now - thanks to everyone for all the help. Bill
  22. Switch would not snap back to position 0 until I reindexed. All is well now. Thanks.
  23. Last question - should this be done with the doors open or closed? Will give this a shot tonight. Thanks.
