  1. I'd like to add to this topic, since my 2003 996TT has just been diagnosed with the dreaded Tiptronic case gasket leak. My indie will inspect it more closely to determine precisely where the leak is coming from. I am hesitant to replace the entire transmission at significant cost as it has been performing flawlessly. I know there are a few other members on here who have had this leak. I conjecture that this leak is related to an earlier failed transmission mount where lateral stress places additional force against the case and gasket. Nobody has connected these two seemingly independent events yet, but reading the forums, it seems that a couple of members that had the failed case gasket mentioned a broken transmission mount. If that is the case, as our cars start to age, there will be more cars requiring a repair of this seal. I'd like to add to this knowledge base by detailing the exact parts and discussing the best methods of solving this problem. As everyone knows, the seal numbered (1 and 2) in Loren's earlier post is not available from Porsche or Mercedes. The two most economical solutions mentioned by other posters have been to use a sealing compound in lieu of the old gasket or to make the seal by using the factory seal as a template. The tolerance gap between the case and the bell housing does seem to matter, so I believe that using the sealing compound method is not the best solution.
