  1. Hi

    looking for the part number for the cable mech on the RH front door (drivers door, in the UK)

    is the mech available seperately ?

    only the cable is broken - result of glass frozen to seals, and trying to operate window...

    so, ideally, I just want to replace this section.

    also, anyone got the procedure for the mech replacement & trim removal ?

    I've got all of it off , but there appears to be two blind rivets into the door lock mech, that I don't want to drill out, as I cant see a way to get them back in !

    thanks

    David

  2. sorry to revitalise this thread again...

    however, did anyone have any prior knowledge that their pipes were about to go ?

    i.e., any leakage of any description prior, no matter how small?

    just trying to pre-empt what might happen to mine !

    also, what were the conditions that the car was in when they went;

    driving 'normally'

    in traffic

    high speed

    high revs

    on track (!)

    thanks

    David

  3. Pilot Sports are a road tyre - fine in the wet

    Pilot Sport Cups are a track orientated tyre, but still road legal - ok in damp, lethal in standing water

    they also have a very narrow operating temperature band for the best grip - you really have to work them to get them into that band

    Pirelli Corsa R are the best all round;

    excellent road manners, with good track manners, a wide operating temp band, and don't suddenly 'go off' when you over cook them - a progressive tyre

    Toyo R888 are also good; they are also the cheapest of the group

    some say the GT3 is too heavy a car for these - I think that it depends upon your driving style TBH - if you are way aggressive, then maybe so; if you are silky smooth, then I think they work just fine

    If you overcook them, they do go off and get 'greasy'

    get a pyrometer - you are looking for a couple of deg differential max across the width of the tyre as you come straight off track. Any more then the pressure / geometry is wrong

    305 on the rear will upset the balance - dont do it !

  4. yep - been in Europe for a while now.

    According to the operations Director of Porsche UK, they introduced the model to compete in mainland Europe, where no-one would buy a petrol SUV.

    Ave mpg is 25-30 in real life

    nice torque too

  5. Following on from the launch of the Panamera at Silverstone OPC, I had the pleaseure of borrowing a Turbo Panamera for a couple of hours yesterday.

    My intital thoughts from the launch were it's a BIG car, didn't like the interior much, or the in-coherent rear end.

    After the drive ?

    well it's fast........VERY !

    it's also very, very quiet at high speed;

    and extremely stable;

    All controls are pretty intuitive really - despite it appearing to have more buttons than the space shuttle.

    Where it really shocked me was it's handling capabilites, and the ability to cover ground fast over Soth Northants worst roads !

    It really does take some realising that there is a large car behind you when you are at the wheel.

    The PCCB brakes were faultless, especially from high speed - and no dust !

    The car now makes more sense to me, and I could live with the questionable rear end looks. The interior has grown on me - it also feels exceptionally well screwed together.

    Rear boot space is adequate - though the dog may think otherwise

    Oh, got to mention launch control - hilarious !

    0-60 in under 4 secs - all with no drama

    Also, with sport plus turned on, you really can get the back end out quite easily ;)

    Would I buy one ?

    not new, definitely not.

    in 3-4 years time....watch this space....

  6. I think that the part that the original poster is refereing tois the engine arrestor (stops the engine moving far in an impact.

    I've been told that this point is the best lift point by a VERY reputable GT specialist in the uk.

    I've used it myself plenty of times.

    just cant get my head round jacking a car from the crankcase!
