    I've read that if you remove the idler pulley above the water pump you can remove the pump from the top. This is supposed to be easier than removing it from the bottom.  If I take that approach can I skip the steps for removing the engine bracket below it?

    How about if I'm also replacing the thermostat and housing?

    Have a full read of this thread, you will find many tips on changing the waterpump, taking it out the top is not one of them

     

     

    I have read this thread. I've also read elsewhere that taking it out through the top is much easier. I'm looking for information from someone who has done this.

  2. I did the fix with glue and heavy duty stitching.  Looked like crap and killed my fingers.  Eventually had the top replaced.  The labor is the same whether you have them repair or replace the top.  It has to come off to do it properly.  I opted to get a new top made of German A5 canvas (like oem) and stayed with the plastic window rather than going with the much smaller glass window.  The plastic windows are now double-stitched and won't de-laminate like the original did.

    Still debating whether to do this myself.  I've had the door panel off and that wasn't too bad. Seems like a lot of tricky connections to this thing, but probably sounds worse than it is.

     

    Pelican Parts has it for $190 with free shipping. For my 2000 Cab, the part number for the driver's side is 8N1-837-015-C-M1002

  4. I just encountered this problem. The crazy thing is that the driver side door latch went bad while I was replacing the passenger side outer handle switch.  I patted myself on the back for a job well done and then when I went to drive the car I discovered the latch problem. What are the odds?

     

    Anyway, I know how to remove the inside door panels now. Is there a DIY for the actual R&R of the door latch?

  5. I took my ashtray to Home Depot and had it color-matched in flat latex enamel combination top coat/primer. It is great for touch ups. I even recently tried it on the side of my driver's seat which was badly cracked. Great improvement.

     

     

    If you don't have an ashtray you can pop off one of the leather side pieces under the front center console and take that to get color-matched.

  6. Sorry if this had been covered, but couldn't find any reference. The parking brake switch on my MY2000 C2 cab has been working intermittently and sometimes preventing the cab top from opening or closing. I can tell that it's the switch because the associated dashboard light doesn't light when this occurs.

     

    Where is the switch and what needs to be done to gain access to it?  Also, some have suggested that it might just need to be lubricated. Is that a reasonable fix or should it just be replaced given its age?

  7. For what it's worth, the 3.4 mufflers for cars with Tiptronic transmissions also have the accordian pipe. The person generally acknowledged to be the expert in this mod, Darin Fister, now performs the same modification on both the 3.4 and 3.6 mufflers.

    I believe there are internal differences and it is said to be OK to use 3.6 mufflers on a 3.4 car, but not visa versa.
