I don't know the ph, but I've used Mother's Aluminum Alloy wheel cleaner for a couple of years and have had very good results. I haven't noticed any damage to the clear coat.

Generally it's just the nuts and bolts that are the problem and not the entire clamp. If you carefully cut off the nuts you can replace them with stainless steel nuts and bolts from Ace Hardware or other local source. They don't have to match the OEM exactly. They just need to be roughly the same size.

I assume you're talking about the cat sleeve clamps rather than the muffler clamps which connect to the tips, but the same is true for the both.

It makes a noticeable difference in my 996.

Home Depot. I had my ashtray color-matched in latex flat enamel combo paint/primer. Apply with a foam brush.

I am not affiliated with Fister D in any way. I installed my Fister D's about a year and a half ago and they still make me smile every time I drive the car. They cost around $300 plus shipping and are by far the best mod you can do. Do some searching and you'll find many, many more like me, who are very happy with the results.

There are threads about eliminating the squeaking sounds (maybe a TSB as well). You will like the hardtop - it makes it seem like a different car. Sorry I can't explain it better than that, but I think most cab owners will agree.

I had Home Depot color-match my ashtray in flat enamel latex paint with great success. I dab a little here and there to touch up interior scratches and they disappear. That might be a good option if you can't remove the ink.

Many people have done that mod and I believe you need to cap off the hose. That being said, i think i read that the maf actually depends on the turbulance created by the box, so i've opted not to do the mod.

Edit: I could have sworn I read an excerpt from some Porsche documentation that said the accuracy of the MAF relied on the turbulance created by the stock airbox. I've search everywhere and can't find any reference to that, so you can take my comment above with a grain of salt.

An elegant solution. Are just the rear wheels on the boards or are the boards long enough for the front wheels as well?

Your point? I didn't take my factory Tiptronic Cabriolet and try to make it look like ghetto teen's wet dream. It's still the classy, iconic, high-end car that came from the Porsche factory.

I have OEM, but I like the look of the LED tailights. I like the concept of the LED headlights, but the implementations that I've seen so far are lacking in aesthetics and quality.

Switching back to OEM in order to sell the car is a 5 minute job.

(sigh) I'm happy that you guys like your black wheels, but I have to say I think they're fugly. I just don't get this trend. It looks like you have spare tires mounted all around, or painted them with ten dollars worth of spray paint. The ones with the chrome/silver rims and gloss spokes are much better. At least you can tell it was intentional.

Why anyone would want to make an iconic high-end car look like a ghetto Honda is beyond me.

If you're going to do the thermostat, I'd replace it with the low-temperature version, especially on a MY2000 car (like mine) which may be a bit more susceptible to cracked heads.

There are many people who agree about changing the water pump preemptively because of the damage that can be done by broken impellers. Others say wait until there are symptoms of failure. Personally, I would do it if money isn't an issue.

I really don't like the trend of switching to black wheels, but it's not as horrible on white cars. Personally, I think it looks like you're missing a hubcap. Anyway, I think the PlastiDip idea is great because you can always undo it when you come to your senses. ;)

It's not hard to do. I ran into a problem when one cat bolt was rusted solid and I was impatient. Give them a good spray with PB Blaster and let it soak in for a little while. I wound up cutting it off and the rest was easy. You remove the bracket from the car with the muffler attached, not the muffler from the bracket. There are DIY's around that explain the process step by step. Once the mufflers are off, you'll probably have to cut the bolts from the clamps that hold the tips to the the mufflers. You can find suitable stainless replacements at Ace Hardware or Home Depot. Some DIY's suggest replacing the tip clamps - they're about $35 a piece. Don't waste your money, reuse the clamps but replace the bolts..

I didn't remove the bumper or wheels as some have suggested. Just back the car up onto some sturdy ramps. I used Rhino ramps from Autozone.

Solid (racing) or Semi-solid motor mounts could also contribute to the tough ride. I have stock suspension and stock motor mounts and everyone who rides with me is surprised at how comfortable the ride is. Install a set of FisterD mufflers and your noise problems will go away :)

@brapp - What year is your car? With the Ebay lights, MK2 cars require resistors to avoid error codes and problems with ABS, Cruise Control, and more. If your car is MK1 ( earlier than 2002), then you won't need resistors, but you still have to make sure not to connect the extra wire.

@White99c2 - I've never seen them that low. Is that a special deal outside of Ebay? From the photos that I've seen, I like both the Asian and European lights, but people who have had both tell me that the European ones are much nicer and better made.
