  1. no, I don't but would be interested in purchasing one. I like stuff like that. Is there a "best place" to get one? I usually look for things on Amazon.com first, but is this something that is more specialized and would need to be purchased elsewhwere?

    edit:

    I found this:

    http://www.amazon.com/Porsche-PIWIS-Engine-Diagnostics-Lights/dp/B006UJ0BMM/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1328279728&sr=8-1

$40 from amazon.com. is this reasonable or is there something better?

  2. I have a 2004 C4S Cabriolet and have some specific questions about the RTS:

If I install it, can I remove the side bars and will the car look normal or is fully removing it so that there is no evidence of it a much bigger job?

While it is in place, can the convertible top be raised and lowered?

Has anyone had any luck getting one for cheap on ebay or somewhere else online? $600 seems awfully pricey.

    thanks,

    navin

  3. I currently have an Audi A8L and it is a great car. I will replace at some point soon and I'd like to consider a Porsche. I'm 6'4" tall and desire a car that when I am seated comfortably, someone of average size can sit behind me. I realize that there is not a Porsche that can give as much room as the A8L, but I'd like to optimize it. I also have one 3 year old and possibly one or two more on the way.

    Here is my dilemma:

    The Cayenne:

Pro: sits three across in the back and could likely put 3 child seats in there if I need to do that.

Con: The leg room in the rear seat seems lacking.

    The Panamera:

    Pro: more leg room

    Con: only two rear seats.

    My questions:

For the Cayenne: Is the rear leg room really as bad as it seems?

For the Panamera, can a child seat be placed to straddle the rear center console? ( I doubt it ) Is there an option to get rid of the rear console?

I appreciate any help / comments.

(I'm dual posting this in the Cayenne forum as well)

  5. Convertible top Compartment Lid is Stuck Closed

Here is the situation: When I went to close my convertible top, it wouldn't do so. I get out of the car and find that one side of the metal convertible deck lid wouldn't open. I find that there is a very small little latch that the hydraulic system unlocks before the deck lid slides back out of the way so the top can close: (This is the picture of the properly connected latch.) It is a little hard to see the latch with the top folded down in the way. To get to it, you have to

  6. I found my cable and used it to open my trunk. When I connected the power to my car, the alarm continued to go off and the trunk release wouldn't work. I decided to use the quick release and here is how I did it.

I jacked up the car right behind the right front wheel. I removed one hex bolt and two torx screws from the plastic wheelwell liner. I reached up behind the liner as far as I could reach and found the cable that is pictured above. I pulled, but couldn't get it to release. I took a rather stout piece of wire and fished it up next to my hand and felt it hook on the loop and then I pulled on it and the trunk un-latched. Kind of tricky, but it worked.

    thanks

  7. The Sim card concept, while used in some U.S. phones, is really something that (in my understanding) is a European thing.

Either they are used to moving their Sim Card around or they just keep one in their car.

When you buy a Porsche in the U.S. the Sim slot on the PCM is blocked out. I would imagine that someone who is somewhat courageous, could use this DIY article to try to add the SIM card reader to their PCM to see if it would work, but it could use a different frequency.

I have Cingular and I have a Sim card that I move from phone to phone on occasion and it works great.

  8. I found mention of the Wilhelmy.it product here on Renntech last year. I happened to remember it and did a search:

    Wilhelmy SmartTop

When I called them, they said that they needed to check out the product on a 2004 (like mine). I only live about 6 miles from the developer (Stefan), so I drove over there.

He actually installed the SmartTop and the RemoteTop for me and tweaked the processor to work on my 2004 perfectly. Apparently the 2004 has some peculilarities in how the software works.

Now, I can get out of my car and press the key remote button for about 2 seconds and the top goes up, the windows go up and the car locks. (The opposite happens when I want the top to go down.)

It also gives me the ability to:

-put the back windows up while the top is down

-lock the doors automatically when I start up the car

-turn on the interior motion sensor with the top down (like the "Red Clip" did on my Boxster)

-allow use of the windows while the key isn't in the ignition for 15 minutes after the key is turned off

I just like gadgets like this and thought other readers might be interested. I don't have any affiliation with Wilhelmy.it and I was not asked to post this nor given a discount of any kind (unfortunately) other than the $10 off that they give Renntech members.

  9. Actually two things:

    1) I'm trying to put a Tiptronic Steering wheel on my (non-tiptronic) car and use the steering wheel buttons for volume and FF/RW buttons. I found this website (http://p-car.com/diy/steeringradio/) that shows most of it, but it isn't very specific. One of the things that it doesn't help with is:

Where do I find the wires under the dash that hook to the wiring loom in the steering wheel: (part number 000 043 203 10). These are the wires that go from the tiptronic steering wheel buttons to the wires in the steering column to somewhere to tell the transmission to shift.

    post-6123-1144505393_thumb.jpg

    2) the next thing is easier. This article:

    http://members.rennlist.com/loren/obc_stalk.zip

shows how to just pop the airbag wire off of the back of the airbag with a flat tool. Is it just that simple? I DO have my battery disconnected, but I don't want to have the airbag go off when I pry off this wire (from the back of the airbag).

  10. in defense for Road Race (the company):

They sent me a replacement right side tip switch today. I installed it in the wheel and it works fine.

(They didn't charge me for it, either).

Now I've just got to find the time to install it in the car.

Anybody know if you need a special tool to remove the steering wheel? My 1963 Falcon and 1966 Mustang needed a "Steering wheel puller".
