  1. vfxbox, How about your comments on the sound quality vs original and your opinion on the gps? Jon
  2. Hi, Can anyone shed some light on this tire wear pattern? The inboard side of the tire is to the left. It is a little hard to see but about 1/4 to 1/3 of the way out from the inboard side is a pronounced hump. The outboard half of the tire is reasonably evenly worn. The tire was on a Boxster and they are Pirelli Asimmetricos. Thanks, Jon (edit - removed double image - Loren)
  3. Assuming you have the keys in correctly the answer is usually just to pull real hard. One posting I read suggested putting a socket extension through the key holes to make it easier to pull hard. Jon
  4. Hi, I have a set of 996 wheels that I hope to use on my 986 the sizes are: 17x7.5 offset 55 17x9 offset 55 Will these fit as is? Thanks, Jon
  5. Looks good! Do you have a picture with the display not deployed? Jon
  6. I have a MY 00 as well. This thread has gotten me thinking what the correct behavior is when the key is turned off and removed. In mine, when the key is turned off and removed, the A/C panel and all the caution lights immediately turn off. The digital speedo and computer remain on for a while. If the radio is on when I turn the key off it stays on for a while but can be turned off with the on/off button. Is this normal? Jon
  7. The part number of the vent is 996.552.228.05 and it is black. Color really dosen't matter as I am going to have it's color changed. My Box is a my '00 but I bought the vent to replace the original. Jon
  8. Can someone help me with this P/N? I need the number for the round plug in the passenger vent. You know, it's the hole that has the light switch on the drivers side. Black is fine but color doesn't matter. Any clue to the cost would also be appreciated. Thanks, Jon
  9. I've been looking for a used set of 17" turbo twist wheels for my '00 Boxster. What do I need to know as far as offset and tire size to end up with a standard 17" installation. Also, could I do an 18" wheel? I assume the common opinion is the larger the wheel the better the looks? Is it worth the loss in ride quality? Jon
  10. Does anyone know if these guys are still in business? I tried emailing their contact address on their web page and didn't get a response. Jon
  11. My niece is going to be a queen in an upcoming parade and asked if I would drive her in my Boxster. Is it safe for someone to sit between the roll bars on the closed top? Jon
  12. I've had my '00 Boxster since the middle of July. I love it! It runs great and is lot's of fun to drive. I haven't had a CEL. My coolant tank doesn't leak and I never blow any smoke. Not even on a cold start. My tires have 15K miles on them and lot's of tread. My top goes up and down every single time I ask it. Oh, did I mention I get 28-29 MPG? I should add that the car is knock down gorgeous. I just wanted people who read through the forum to know that while the forum is a great source for help with your Boxster, they really are wonderful cars to own. Jon
  13. I'm interested in hearing replies to this as well. I also have a Boxster that I only drive for pleasure and would like to know what people think would be quiet tires with good dry weather traction. Jon
  14. Is it possible to put a headliner in my 2000 Boxster? I have seen them for sale and they seem to infer that it is an easy upgrade. What is required to put one in? Jon
  15. I know the spoiler light illuminates when you start your car and stays lit until you start moving. When you are driving and go above 75 does the light illuminate when the spoiler deploys? Is deployment proportional above 75 or does it just go up? I have yet to see mine deploy. Can you see it from the drivers seat? Jon
  16. I went through this exact thing. I had disconnected my battery two days before I went through inspection and they were unable to communicate with my OBD. I drove it for another week, went back and it was fine. I did make sure I drove it on an interstate for a while before I went back. Check this thread... http://www.renntech.org/forums/index.php?s...911&hl=jhall299 Jon
  17. When my car has been sitting in the sun for a long hot day, the seal seems to seal a little to tight. When I start to put the top down the seal sounds like it is stuck and requires a lot of force to open. I should inject that the top works just fine. My concern is that the lowering mechanism may be getting a harder than necessary workout. Is there any short of lubricant I can put on the rubber weather seal to make it not stick? I don't want to use the wrong stuff and soften the gasket. Thanks, Jon
  18. I wouldn't call Bose low end audio. Maybe the system they help put into a factory car isn't anything spectacular, but that isn't what the manufacturer wants. They want an inexpensive, but hopefully passable system that has a well known name associated with it. I remember in the '70s when Bose started selling there series 901 speakers. They were revolutionary! They have also been pioneers in home theater. Everyone has heard of Bose. This is just the name recognition Porsche wanted for there audio offering. I'm sure if you put the name of "real" high end audio equipment on the windstop 99.99% of the people seeing it would wonder what a Focal (or anything else) was. I think it looks fine! Jon
  19. Does anyone know the part number/cost for these pieces? Also, are they hard to replace? One of mine is pretty mangled. Jon
  20. All better :) I took it back and had them scan it again and everything was fine. I think the guys at DMV were disappointed. or jealous? Jon
  21. It's expensive but how about this... http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAP...item=7992172884 You might need to put this on one line in your browser. Jon
  22. Well, I read the above info but I am still curious if anyone thinks the battery being disconnected three days and ~80 miles ago would cause it to fail. Also, does anyone have a recommendation on a PC based OBD scanner? Jon
  23. Great info guys! I also think I might have been my own worse enemy by accident. I read this on the NJ Inspection website... "One of the primary reasons may be if recent electrical work or problems with the vehicle have caused the OBD computer to reset. In this case, you may not have emissions problems but your OBD system will not be readable by the inspection equipment until after you have driven your vehicle for a certain amount of time. If you have recently had your battery replaced or disconnected while your vehicle was being serviced, ask your repair technician and/or consult the owner’s manual to determine if your vehicle will be ready for inspection." I went to the inspection station today(Tuesday) and I had disconnected my battery on the previous Saturday to do the OBC mod to my car. It works great but that is another story. Do you think this could have caused the problem? How long after a battery disconnect does it take for the OBD to allow connections? In my case it had been three days and a little lesss than 100 miles. Jon
