  1. This is only my second post so again pls be kind..

I have been enjoying my 05 boxster S until in our local paper in Canada I read in the Wheels section an article about how great the 05 Boxster was as a used car, lots of positive points and only one negative "total engine annihilation"... so I have been reading about the IMS failures etc..couple of questions

    my car is an 05 with 26,000 K ( or 15,000 miles) 6 speed.

I understand that the engine could be different (regarding the failure rate)in 05 (how can I tell )

I read about getting the bearing replaced.. anyone know someone in Ontario that may do it? Or one close to a border (buffalo) that would do it.

I have full porsche warranty until next March.

Any other advice other than drive it hard until MArch then sell ?

Kind of what I was thinking too...Appreciate the response.

  3. Mine is a 2005 and (with the clutch all the way in) also wont start from the "off" or "run" position.. I have to turn the key all the way left, then back to :start:... pretty darn embarrasing the first couple times I stalled.... till I figured it out.

By the way, mine goes in storage too... what many in the US may not know is that in many provinces in Canada, they throw massive quantities of salt on the roads in winter (excellent for starting rust and corrosion).. the semi melted salt crystals are abrasive and corrosive enough, but its made even worse when they mix in sand or very tiny pebbles for traction..the salty slush and water gets into every tiny joint, and sticks to every surface and sits there eating away at the steel and aluminium, the abrasive nature isn't good for the paint job, .

The slush and water spray from passing cars also contains all kinds of chemicals in addition to the salt content, from -40 windshield fluid, to various other auto fluids and grease and oil that drip off cars..and that doesn't do the cloth top any good either.

That's why mine is a 6-month car, (or just 5 month if the weather turns) that has never seen snow.

Thanks , I kept thinking about the clutch in idea and kept thinking maybe I wasnt pushing it all the way down, but the two times I have stalled... I kept trying everything, key out , key in , pump the clutch and then it would start after some combination.. In the meantime you are sitting in one very nice car blocking traffic while KIA's honk at you as they go around.. I havent tried to stall since I have had all these suggestions, I will try to stall before it goes away and post my unscientific results..

Thanks for all the postings.. PS if you store yours, any suggestions on what I need to do.. I am getting the oil changed this week, I have access to an underground garage but was planning on storing it in my house garage which is not heated... thoughts?

  4. :welcome:

Make sure the clutch is ALL the way in - there is a microswitch on the clutch pedal. It pretty much has to be on the floor to start my car.

Thanks, unfortunately I guess I will have to stall it again to try that.. Will try it this week and let you know.. Appreciate the quick answer. 1 more month and the car goes in storage for the winter :(

  5. First , I am new to this posting thing, so I apologize in advance if I am screwing something up.

    I bought a 2005 Boxster S 6 mos ago, drives great , low mileage.

Occassionally if I stall (yes it happens, usually coming out of a garage and I dont want to bottom out) I cant start the car. I turn the key back and turn it on and there is nothing.. Is there a trick, I have no problem ever starting the car any other time. I go back and forth a few times and it starts, but I am not sure if I am doing something with the key that makes it start..

Please if is a dumb question, be gentle.

    txs
