  1. Even with a 3rd iPod (brand new 30GB video), the same flakiness appeared. Failing new information, I'll likely try the earlier firmware version and check the behavior. The Rennteam forum didn't have any directly related posts that I could find, so anyone's input here is appreciated!
  2. Thanks for the feedback, here! We'll keep fiddling and see what happens. By going back to the older firmware, I assume that the older iPods are supported. Not that I found it on the Dension site, yet, but is there a list of firmware-to-iPod-version compatibility somewhere? I'll also check the other forums mentioned for more information.
  3. <quote> Try updating i-pod software! <quote> But furthermore, is that to say that you saw this same behavior with a Gateway500, then you updated your iPod SW, and then the problem went away? First-hand experience? It would be reassuring to know...
  4. Try updating i-pod software! I'll give that a go. The Nano was mine, and I can't access my iTunes system because my hard drive crashed last night!! :censored: I'll see if the owner has the same trouble, and make a similar suggestion. I had been letting my Nano SW update when iTunes flagged it, so I would think it was pretty current. I can't be as sure of my friend's 30GB Video we also tested. We'll see...
  5. In case someone has seen this and knows of a resolution, here's my issue (I am also asking an answer of Dension, too): Vehicle is a 2006 911, with PCM and Navigation DVD drive. The GW500 was installed and connected up. The PCM recognized and controls audio from the USB and Aux. ports, but both iPods I connected (4GB Nano and 30GB Video) were not able to be recognized through to the PCM. There was no control or audio. On the iPod screen, a big Check mark and "OK to Disconnect" was visible, but this just kept cycling/flashing over and over with the iPod paused. I do think it was charging, though. Anyone encountered this and no of the resolution? I did upgrade the firmware to the latest version at Dension's site. Again, the Aux. audio and USB inputs worked fine...really sounded great. Thanks for any help! Karl
  6. re: a picture I'll have more prototypes in a few days, and I might get a chance to show one in position (without something on it) this weekend. I'll post back here with the updates re: IHF1000 Dave, see my PM to you. I regularly install IHF1000's into Porsches in the Chicagoland area. It works great and looks neat (I know some will NEVER be happy unless they can't see the controller, too, but at least the 1000's UIM looks good in the Porsches).
  7. <snip>Hard to determine size, nothing to scale against in picture!! <snip> Maybe I should repost the pictures with the mount circled in its place (if it's not apparent), or else I could run a tape measurer next to the bracket. Dimensions of the flat surface will be roughly 45mm tall x 55mm wide. I don't think this position would be good for a cellphone mount (it's right behind the steering wheel), but it would be good for any sort of flat control panel (sat radio, V1 remote display pad, handsfree controllers, possibly iPods, etc.). Thanks for the feedback so far!
  8. Anyone have a comment? I'd like to decide quickly whether to place the minimum order quantity (which is rather large), or just continue making these by hand for my own needs. Your input is GREATLY appreciated!
  9. I am creating a mounting bracket for the User Interface Module (UIM) of the Motorola IHF1000 to use in the 997 911, and 987 Boxster and Cayman. I finished installation of a prototype this past weekend in a 997, and I think it went well. I will use this bracket in my support of dealer and private party handsfree system installations. I figure this same bracket could be used to mount a number of devices - Valentine 1 remote control panel, Satellite Radio controller, other handsfree controller, etc. Please have a look at the pictures below, and I would appreciate your feedback on the appeal of the bracket. The final version would be from sheet aluminum, and black anodized for an excellent appearance. The bracket fastens behind the small triangular trim piece with a couple of small screws (which would be included). Some questions I have that I would appreciate feedback on: - Would leaving it flat, for the buyer to bend to their needs, be ok? - or, should it be pre-bent (different bends required for 997 vs. 986, BTW)? - what price would be OK (assume USPS shipping within the US is included)? - ex: pro-f!t brackets are priced from ~$16 and higher online, plus shipping - should the panel be larger or smaller? or should there be a large panel, and small panel version? Thanks for your input. 997_Installed 997_UIM Proto
  10. I have begun carrying the Dension product to support the handsfree system and iPod/aux. audio integrations that I do for dealers and private parties. However, I am still looking for the first customer (here in the Chicago area) to try this Dension out on. If there's someone local in Chicagoland interested, I'll offer a price break on the product and my services to try this out. I/we would then post the results here to the forums for others to benefit from.
  11. <snip> How can i adjust the speaker output level on the PCM the hum is there whichever volume is at oin the audio volume or IHF1000 <snip> Are you trying to connect the Blue/Orange lines from the IHF1000 to the telephone audio input, or the lines from the speaker connection? Also, are you going into pins 7and12 on the upper connector block with the audio?
  12. I misunderstood which vehicle you had. The location I described was for a mounting of the speaker in a 996/997 or Boxster/Cayman. For the Cayenne, I remove the lower dash trim panel under the steering wheel, then remove the knee deflector plate. I mount the speaker to the back of that plate, pointed up towards the driver. It's located to the left of the steering column, then. As for your audio humm and bringing the audio through the headunit, make sure to use the speaker-level output from the IHF1000 into the headunit. Also make sure that you adjust the IHF1000 volume level to provide loud, but not distorted, audio out of the car speakers. Hit the Talk/center button and keep repeating the "Help" command - adjust the volume while listening to the menu of commands. You may also need to tweak the level again while in a call. This will optimize the S-to-N ration of the handsfree signal into the PCM headunit.
  13. OK. So you said you were able to get the handsfree system audio to play through the radio, but there was a bad hum. Did you try connecting the speaker connection to the radio's telephone audio input, or the orange and blue wires on the kit (this is an IHF1000, right)? Also, is the hum present even if you don't have the handsfree audio connected (i.e. Mute hook-up only)? I would mount the speaker in the center console, behind/under the radio near the floor. Remove the D/S center console kick panel, and you should see a spot there. Hides everything nice and should still be loud enough. P.S. I do installs of these in the Chicago/Milwaukee area
  14. For those who were looking for the wiring adapter for the ISO connectors, the Metra solution menitoned is good. I have access tosomething similar, as well as a plg-n-play solution for the upper connector block, too (where the CD changer pins, etc., are). I prefer the "leave all the connectors in place" method of radio/accessory hook-up myself. But that tends to assume that you won't be the one driving the car until it's in the ground :drive:
  15. I've found that some early PCM2 systems did not support the audio input. The Mute line does work on those, however. You''ll need to use your system's supplied speaker. Does your sound system also have an amplifier external to the PCM2 ? Like a BOSE system? If no (i.e. if your speakers are driven directly from the PCM2) there are other options.
  16. <snip> There is a phone prep already installed in the 996 in the center console just behind the gear shift to mute the radio and get the necessary power for attaching a third party phone in the car. <snip> I can confirm this as well. This 4pin connector contains the Mute, Battery, Ignition and Ground connections you need for most handsfree installs. No audio input, though :(
  17. I've installed bluetooth kits on a number of PCM2.1 equipped Porsches, but have been unsuccessful so far in integrating the phone system audio. I always wind up with alternator whine. As a result, I continue to use the supplied speaker in the installations. The Mute line and phone audio input seems to work (even without having enabled the phone - as you reference that these instructions are in the manual). Is there a difference in behavior before and after the enabling process? Thanks.
  18. Which Motorola kit did you install? The HF850 or the IHF1000? Also, did you notice any alternator whine in the handsfree phone system audio?
