  1. My Porsche service Tech mentioned that although the OEM pads create a huge amount of brake dust, the ceramic pads are of concern because of the noise they produce. I might add that my mechanic is not working for a stealership but does have over 25 years of experience with Porsche. What are some of your comments for Cayenne users with ceramic brakes?

I can only state my own personal experience with Hawk HPS pads. When i installed them properly and followed the bed-in procedures they have remained as quiet as the originals that came on the vehicle. The dust situation has improved greatly as I was expecting. The 'feel' of the brakes is as good or better than the originals in my experience.

  2. I have completed a search on which brake pads to use and the consensus on the forum is Hawk Dustless, although like "GCHU" I could not find Hawk Dustless, like him I could only find the following below post that I copied/pasted. My main criteria is to retain OEM stopping power and to reduce brake dust. I have heard that Hawk pads have to heat up or be hot to be effective, at least on some of the review websites that I have read. Our OEM Pagid are great but have the brake dust issue. Are they any other brands out there that are better. Also if you could tell me where you are getting them, thanks.

I did some searching and found everyone talks about the Hawk Dustless Pads. The only Hawk Pads I found for the Cayenne from Hawk are the:

    Hawk Performance Ceramic Pads

Stopping Power: 3 Stars, Low Noise: 4 Stars, Low Dust: 4 Stars

    Hawk HPS Street Brake Pads

Stopping Power: 4 Stars, Low Noise: 3 Stars, Low Dust: 3 Stars

    Hasw LTS Truck/SUV Pads

Stopping Power: 4 Stars, Low Noise: 3 Stars, Low Dust: 3 Stars

Has Hawk Dustless got replaced by one of the above? Anyone has experience or recommand of these pads for a heavy 5000+ pounds Cayenne? Thanks.

Tried Hawk HPS and I am very happy with the results. Excellent performance and much less dust.

  3. I am trying to fold my rear sear bottoms up so I can fold the tops down to create a totally flat space from the trunk. I can fold the rear seat bottoms up but only to about 45 degrees. I need them to go 90 degrees so when I remove the headrests, I can lay the seat tops totally flat. The owners manual does not help and searches yield no results. If I push hard and force it I may break the seats. I have tried pulling on the strap in all directions. This is frustrating.... What is the trick??!! :(

Pull the strap up and forward just a bit. The front of the lower back seats will pop up, don't be afraid to use a bit of force. Once the rear seat bottom is raised you can reach under the back and pivot them forward to their 'standing position', the rest will be obvious.

  4. I recently purchased an 06 and so far I am thrilled with the Cayenne. I will be doing some light towing with my truck and to my surprise, there was no wiring harness next to the hitch. A few questions for you guys:

Is this something I can do myself or should I take it in to the dealership?

If it's something I can do myself, are there any aftermarket products?

Any tips on installation would be appreciated.

To the left of the hitch receiver and up a bit you should see a blank plate a few inches square held in by a few screws. If the hitch is factory installed then that harness should be there, it just needs the connector attached. If your hitch is after-market then that's another story.

  5. Hi would any know what the plug and coaxial or digital cable is for that I found under my passenger seat? They are not plugged in?

    Thanks for you help

    Mark

Do you have DVD Navigation? The drive for that system goes there and that is likely the plugs for that system.

Yes I have the PCM in my 2005. The DVD player for the Nav is in the front of the seat and it works with out these?

If the drive is there and working then I really don't know what else those connectors could be for, hopefully someone else can help.

  6. Recently I posted about two failed coil packs just before the warranty ran out. It was suggested that I change out the others and since the plugs were due I went ahead and did so. Sunset was the source for the coil packs and they are great to work with, Jeff is very responsive to inquiries.

Below are a few shots of the engine with cover removed and placement of the pick tool in the spot needed to pop the connectors off the coil packs. The process is pretty straight-forward once you get the hang of popping those connectors.

Also a shot of the plugs as a FYI for the forums.

Thanks to all for the great information found here.

  7. I know that Rowlands57 went over this but wanted to make sure before ordering a new hitch and harness. I have a 2006 turbo without a tow package. Looked on e trailer and they have the hitch but no harness. Rowlands57 said part # 11775 will work from e-trailer, so is that all I need? Just the end plug? How about a mounting bracket? is the harness there even if you don't have the tow package? E-trailer said i needed to go to the dealer

    Thanks

I did order the tow package from the factory so all I was missing was the plug adapter that converted the 7-pin to a 4-pin 'flat plug' as that's what my utility trailer came with. Without that being factory installed I would have had to add the entire setup as mentioned in the previous post.

  8. Anyone know how to remove the rear wiper on the cayenne

i tried all the bolts nothing happens? is there a HOW TO?

If you mean the blade insert it really is just a grab and pull removal, no tools needed. At the center of the black plastic cover there is a clip that holds the middle of the wiper blade. To install the replacement wiper blade just snap the new one back into that same clip. Use consistent pressure on both the removal and the replacement and you will be fine.

  9. I had concerns about mine and pulled it to check it out. All I did was clean it and it worked.

Anyway, it could not be any easier to remove. Just pop it out of the dashboard. If you do need to replace it I think any VW par will work. If you look at it compared to the same part in the Tourag it looks identical. Not sure if it's less expensive at a VW shop. Another alternative is Sunset Porsche, I have used them with good results for other parts.

  10. My 2004 Cayenne S needs to replace brake pads soon, I am curious what pads are people using on their Cayenne S?

I have the stock brake system, normal daily driving, not an aggressive driver.

I noticed that Suncoast Porsche sell factory replacement pads (made by Brembo?)

How about Pagid brake pads, are they as good as the factory brake pads? (Does anyone know the part number for Pagid brake pads on 2004 Cayenne S? )

Also, do I need to purchase brake sensors while I purchase new pads?

I changed to Hawk no dust pads, I am amazed how my wheels look

Where did you end up getting the Hawk pads and did they come as a complete kit with hardware and sensors? Thanks!

  11. Rowlands- I am in Crtlandt. Putnam Tire is in Cold Spring? What did they charge you per tire for road-force balancing? Where do you get your alignment done, and how much do they charge?

    Thanks.

The road-force was $20/tire at Putnam Tire, and I had the alignment done at RennSport in Beford Hills. However, based on the experience there I would use Putnam for everything as they had to fix the balancing the RennSport made a complete mess of. They managed to get up to $169 in WIEGHTS alone and the balance was a complete mess. Would not recommend them for anything tire related, not even air pressure check.

Mike is the guy at Putnam Tire and is as easy do deal with as anyone I have met in the repair business. Next time tires are needed for any of my cars that's where I am going.

  12. Whatever about the cost of the alignment I can say that whomever does the balance needs to use a Hunter RoadForce machine. I had two shops try to get the balance right with miserable results and the only success came when I found a shop with that Hunter machine.

I think that price for the alignment is too high by about $200 but that's the dealer for you. If you find a shop with the Hunter machine (use the Hunter web-site they have a locator) I suspect they will be in a good position to handle the alignment as well.

    Good Luck.

PS - I am in the NY 'upstate' region and used Putnam Tire for my work with good results.

  13. Hi, I wonder if anyone can help me, I am stuck. My 06 Cayenne V6 came with factory tow option. The problem is that I cannot find the proper wiring harness to fit the plate on the back of the vehicle, all wiring harnesses I found at parts stores dont fit the plate so cant be mounted. The 7 pin round coming off the vehicle plugs into the harness no problem just that screw holes to mount receptacle don't align. I called 3 dealers over the weekend and none of them have this part or have ever heard of anyone needing one. Should vehicle had the proper harness for the U.S. installed at factory? any help with this would be greatly appreciated so I can use this tow option. Thanks.

I used etrailer.com and ordered part number 11775 and it fit the Cayenne. It is a Pollak 7-way rv oem style socket. If you type that part number in their search box you should see it on their site.

If the trailer you will be using has a 'flat 4' or other type of connector you may also have to buy a 7 pin to 'whatever you have' adaptor. I have a flat-4 on my utility trailer and had to buy that adaptor. All works great with this setup.

    Good luck.
