  1. The V1 is a fine unit. I tried the multi arrow unit for awhile.

    But....Waaay too sensitive for my tastes. I know Mike Valentine says you can learn to distinguish falses, but I don't need the noise distraction and have learned to distinguish enuf falses with my BEL RX-65.

    Not trying to start a food fight. It has already been done. :)

  2. You can expect to pay about $500.00 for a decent detector. Don't waste money on a cheapo. Most top of the line detectors are fine. Bells and whistles vary. Latest versions have database of cameras for speed or red lights.

    Get an undetectable version if you live in VA or state that outlaws detectors. Google Radar Roy for some comparison tests.

    And pay a lawyer next time. Might cost more, but they can usually plead down minor offenses to equipment failure or something your insurance company won't take as seriously if they notice at all.

    Don't trust the owner's manual for current recommendations. As mentioned recommendations change and oils are reformulated (Mobil 1 might not be the same formulation for the same advertised viscosity as it was when the original fill was done.)

    The recommended oils TSB is on available to RennTech contributing members and is a good place to start. But there are plenty of good oils not on the list for several reasons. The search will cover most of the logic, but not tell you which oils is "best."

    The Oil Spec TSB says on 0w-40, 5W-40 or 5W-50 for cars. Different for Cayennes.

    ZDDP levels seem to be going down every API cycle.

    No experience with leased cars, but if you've read Mike Focke and know to get a good PPI you will be in good position. Make sure there are maintenance records. There are plenty of very nice cars available right now, so be patient and buy the absolute best car you can afford. And one with the options you want.

    IMS can be fixed/upgraded by Jake Raby, but the old 2.7 had its cylinder head studs and valve guide problems. From the 901 there were chain tensioner problems. And there were the exploding air boxes. So don't let the new possibility scare you off.

  5. You need to contact Jake Raby at Flat6Innovations. He answered a similar question on this or another forum. IIRC there is no one in your area, and Jake ain't lettin' no shoddy shops ruin his rep.

    Basically I believe it is good preventive medicine and will take my car to North GA as soon as I can afford the $3500 IMS upgrade/clutch replacement.

    Jake does not believe R&R of engine is worthwhile w/o doing the clutch.
