  1. Can anyone confirm the latest coil part #? The original coils were changed in 07' as part of a campaign. Those coils read: Beru 648 602 104 07 / 0 040 102 002. The two new coils I replaced read: Beru 0 040 102 012. I'm getting some conflicting info from my dealer part's counter. Thank you!
  2. I have an 04' Cayenne S w/ 87K miles. Last month I had a couple of episodes of rough idle/running. (No check engine light.) After ruling out a bad tank of gas and the return of these episodes, I visited my indie mechanic. Scan results showed misfire cylinder 2/6. We replaced the ignition coils at 2 & 6 and cleared codes. Truck ran fine for four or five days and then the intermittent rough idle episodes started again. The second episode triggered the CEL (solid) light. Brought the car in today and the following codes showed: P0357 & P0021 After clearing the codes, the rough idle returned and I rescanned. P0357 was persistent. The original coils were replaced under warranty/recall by first owner. Plugs were changed at 65K miles. Wondering if it's time to simply change the remaining 6 coils, or if there are other suggestions? Many thanks, in advance, for forum input.

Solved my Homelink programming woes - after referencing a couple different threads it appears even if you have a rolling code garage door opener, you have to first 'program' the remote to your desired Homelink button. Then press the 'learn' button on the garage door unit and pair with your Homelink button. Took thirty seconds once I had the correct order of operations. Here's the quick and dirty: 1.) Press outside Homelink buttons for 20 seconds to reset; 2.) Press garage door opener and pair to Homelink button; 3.) Press 'learn' button on opener and pair with same Homelink button.

  6. I would like to change the shocks and springs in my 04' Cayenne S w/ 75K miles - they are original. Any opinions regarding Bilstein Sport vs. HD? Also, anyone used them in conjunction with Koni or Eibach springs? I have 18' wheels and would like to minimize the wheel well gap, without making the ride brutally hard...if that's possible to do and still lower the an inch or so. Cheers!
  7. I'm particularly interested in Tiptronic owner feedback - due to the traffic in the DC area, owning a manual shift car can be torture. (I had been shopping C4/C4s and loved the manual versions I drove, but was underwhelmed with the Tiptronic's performance with the naturally aspirated engine.) I't seems more than a few owners use their 996 TT as daily drivers. I'm curious how durable the engine and transmission combination has proven to be over time?
  8. Good advice - I think I will probably pass on this particular car, but an important part of the learning process. I purchased a one-owner 04' Cayenne S a couple years ago (which came with a full service history) after a good bit of kicking tires and the patience has paid off. When you are bit by the Porsche bug...well, what more can you say. I'm sure the right 996 TT is out there, too :)

  11. Looking at an 01' 996 TT w/ tiptronic - few maintenance records available, unfortunately. I'd run, normally, but it looks clean/stock other than upsize rims and only 72K miles. Asking $33K. Any ownership experience, buying advice or achilles heels based on MY and transmission are greatly appreciated. I have a couple local Porsche dealers to perform a PPI. Thank you -
  12. Battery change has not affected the lock/unlock behavior. Whenever my wife uses her fob, the preferred settings revert back to default.
  13. Iminer - I would have your local dealer run the VIN. They can/should provide you with a history of any work done under warranty. I cannot comment on whether they will offer you 'good will' credit now that you're out of warranty. I can suggest you become a contributing member - the site is a life saver (and $ saver) for all - and review the TSB's for your MY. Lots of great info/ammo to negotiate with a dealer. Also recommend befriending a savvy, experienced independent mechanic for second opinions :)

  15. Wondering if there are any options or recommendations for Mac users for code reading/clearing on a 04' Cayenne S? Also, I see PIWIS systems advertised for <$2K and the Durametric for $400. What are the major advantages to spending extra for the PIWIS? Many thanks...

  17. Looking to purchase a used 05-06' MY C4S or 911 Turbo. I currently own a 04' Cayenne S, so I am somewhat familiar with the Porsche ownership experience but totally green with regard to 911's. Any advice on red flags or know issues while shaking perspective vehicles down is greatly appreciated.

  19. The windshield wipers, when left in the auto sensing position, won't always start to sense rain. I will have to move the stalk to the 'off' position and then back to the auto sensing position for them to start. Once they start, they seem to work ok.
  20. Thank you, mudman2. I've had the car one year - purchased from original owner w/ 63K miles. It had 2/3 C's done by dealer (coils and cardan shaft) and the updated transfer case. (Build date was 12/03.) So far, good. Other than the weird door lock behavior...I've also been unable to program the home-link garage transmitter and occasionally had a couple instances of erratic windshield wiper. Could they also be symptomatic of a failing main battery?
  21. Whenever my wife borrows my 04' CS, the previous settings re door unlock (all) seem to revert back to 'single' door unlock. I've changed batteries in both our fobs, and made sure to set preferences before turning car off. Is this a symptom the main battery is starting to die?
  22. Tom_W, I have an 04' CS and was wondering how significant a change in responsiveness you got with the CAI and Cat Bypass mods?
  23. +1 on the Conti DWS. I just put them on my 05' E500 last week and they are very quiet. BTW, did you look at the Hankook Ventus AS - it is their all-season, grand touring SUV tire model? I put them on my 04' Cayenne S six months ago and I'm very pleased with their ride quality. (And they were very affordable.)
