  1. Both left and right turns affected.  I have a 2003 Carrera coupe.  Is this the correct replacement part?

Ive seen the same thing before. Last time I saw it, it was due to a chewed up wire in the engine harness under the intake. Rodents love to hang out up in that area. Nice warn spot for the night with lots of wires they can chew on. This fault is usually due to an open circuit on the level sender (wiring, sensor, faulty cluster). The sensor has two circuits in it. One is a temp sensor that is wired to the DME the other it the level sensor and goes to the Instrument Cluster. The circuit to the cluster is pins 2 and 4 on the connector of the level sender. Pin 2 wire color Green and Blue and Pin 4 is Brown and orange. look at the harness closely and see if you can find any evidence of rodent damage on the wires. If it looks okay, I would next take the cluster out and check continuity of the circuit for the level sender. Gonna be pins 19 and 24 also wire color of 19 green / blue and 24 of brown / orange of connector C1. Check for Ohm reading on this circuit. I do not have a "spec" of what it should be. However if its an open circuit with no OHMS of resistance than you have a broken wire somewhere. Anyways hope this helps. Good luck

Thanks for the info.  Car is back together so I will delve into it the next time I have access to those areas again.

    Hi Shrek,

It was my experience that new bolts came with the updated coil packs.  Size might be a mute point unless you received some and it didn't come with it.

    Jim

I was referring to the hardware holding the metal cover that goes over the coil packs.  With the increased coil pack height the original hardware no longer fits, they need to be longer.

  4. Yes the oil pickup screen had a few pieces stuck to it.

I posted this reply on Rennlist as to my possible future plans:

Right now I believe I will go ahead and put it back together, fill with Mobil 1 10W/40 and the paper filter element, drive it for 500 miles or so then do another analysis and visual inspection of the sump and filter as well as send off for an oil analysis to both Blackstone and Oilvue. Of course if the engine eats it before then then I will consider a replacement. Someone; convince me otherwise.

  5. Then its a rebuild, next to impossible in Hawaii, or a replacement.  I will start looking around for replacements.  Anyone have suggestions as to where.  I could ship the car to my brother-in-law in San Diego for repair.

These results were from an oil change when I first got the car.  The oil only had around 1000 miles on it at the time.
