So I'm still in the process of replacing my chain guides for the cams on my 2000 2.7 Boxster.  My original problem started with high cam deviation on bank 1.  It was around 21 deg on bank 1 and about 4 deg on bank 2 prior to any work done.  Now after replacing the guides (and they were very worn out) I'm having issues with the other side with bank 2.  I have gone back in and double checked my cam alignment making sure the chain is lined up with the markings on the cams.  The car is running rough.  Here is what Durametric shows.

    The deviation on bank one is -3 deg and 21 deg on bank 2.  Any thoughts???

    Im trying to get my 2000 2.7 Boxster back up and running after replacing the cam chain guides.  Its giving me the errors below. I replaced spark plugs in the process of the work.  And i replaced the coil.  Any thoughts?

  3. Ok it looks like I have spark going to the plugs. I uninstalled one of the coils and rested the plug against the block while I had someone turn the ignition on. I still have a fuel smell coming from the exhaust so I think that’s not the problem either. I must have got the timing wrong with the engine. Let me make sure I have this right. Turning the crank to TDC should have bank 1 intake cam pointing towards the engine and the exhaust cam straight up and down. Rotating the crank 360 degrees should have bank 2 intake cam pointing away from the engine with the exhaust cam pointing straight up and down. Is that correct?  Or am I missing something?

  4. Just wanted to update my issue. I did get the top to close. It was very tight. I had to manually push the top down while i engaged the latch. After some time I’m now able to open and close the top without any problems. This project turned out remarkably well. The top looks OEM but now I have a glass window. I think the entire project cost me about $700ish. My car looks better than it ever has.

  5. I recently replaced the plastic guides to the cam chains on my 2000 2.7 Boxster. The car will not start. During the reassembly I accidentally pinched one of the spark plug wires and the insulation got torn but I can see the wires are intact. So wondering if upon start up if the spark shorted across exposed wires and took something out? Or what have I missed during reassembly?  The car turns over and I smell gas coming from the exhaust. It just doesn’t fire up. Any ideas what I can do or check?

  6. I just finished replacing the chain guilds for the cams on my 2000 2.7 Boxster. They were shot! Matter of fact one was disintegrated and the chain was wearing the metal foot on the tensioner where the plastic boot once was. Anyway with the engine being torn apart to this extent I was wondering if would be a good idea to hook up the Durametric and see if I can turn on the oil pump prior to starting the engine? Is this possible and something that’s worthwhile?

I'm in the process of replacing the plastic guide rails on my 2000 2.7 Boxster.  I managed to replace the guides and put the cams back in.  However now that I'm about to install the double chain sprocket back on the cam the 4 bolts don't seem to line up anywhere near the slotted holes in the sprocket.  I did remove the chain tensioner prior to removing the sprocket and it is still uninstalled.  I have a pin in the engine making sure its TDC.  Is there a way to align this?  I'm on the right-hand bank (I believe bank 1). Any help would be appreciated.

  8. I recently replaced my left door lock on my 2000 base Boxster.  The window was not dropping all the time when I opened and closed the door.  That problem is gone.  Now I'm having alarm issues.  The car beeps at me saying something is wrong when I press the remote and here is what Durametric says.  I tried disconnecting the battery and no luck.  The erase button is greyed out so I cant clear it.  Do I need to dismantle the original door lock and swap out something inside?

  9. I'm getting ready to replace the chain tensioners and chain guides on my 2000 2.7 Boxster.  I believe it has skipped a tooth on one of the cams as the deviation is reading -21 deg when hooked up to my Duremetric software.  I have the PN's for the guides but I need the PN's for the chain tensioners.  From what I understand there several that most likely need replacement and some that we really don't need to replace.  Which ones are they and what are the PN's?
