  1. Nothing special other than metric box end wrench or socket to take off the front engine cover holding bolts and a screw driver, but for the front it is all easy and does not need a super flexible wrist to get to the sensor. You might want to use dielectric grease sparingly on the electrical plug contacts. Put a little in the female side of each contact in the plug.

Engine cover is removed. Looking at the engine from the seating compartment, the cyclinder head on the right (behind driver, Bank 2) has a cam postion sensor clearly visible to the front of the engine. Does this mean that on the cyclinder head on left (behind passenger, Bank 1) the cam position sensor will be to the rear of the car on the head?

  2. This position sensor is on the front of the engine on the passenger side. It is readily visible and accessible by removing the front engine cover in the passenger compartment. The Bank 2 sensor is on the left bank on the rear of the engine and is accessed by removing the air tube from the air filter box to the engine.

Thank you so much, I hope to get to it this coming weekend. Do I need any "Special" tools?

  3. Mine is an "01" S. I recently replaced rear wheel bearings and CV boots. No problems with disassembly or reassemble. Followed DIY entry by "seafeye", great help. First test drive presented with very serious car jolting vibration at 59mph. Did not stop until I stopped the car completely. 2nd try at 52mph, same thing. Prior to this the ride is smooth, no shake, rattle, or vibration. Rechecked all nuts, bolts, torques. Nothing was off. 2nd test drive, same thing at 56mph. Made it back home and parked. Any ideas on this problem would be greatly appreciated.

  4. seafeye,

Thank you so much for the offer. Charlotte is not far for me, I come their 2-4 times a month for patients. I happen to be off this coming F-S-S-M the 20-23rd. Would any of these days at any time work for you? My email is rgilpin1558@msn.com. Hope to hear from you soon. Again thank you so much for your offer. So far I have followed your steps and am to the point where I pull the hub out.

    Ray
