  1. Thank you for the link 1schoir. But why would the fluid level go down if there's no leak? Not sure there's not a leak 'cause I've not taken the top apart yet but I'll check.
  2. My apologies for not reporting back! Yes, I had the dealer fix it last Sept. and it's been running well ever since. But now another problem surfaced, the motor of the convertible top is operating slow and won't close the top completely without manual help. I need to execute a search on this topic....
  3. Even though my 996 remains parked for days, without being used, the coolant is continuing to drip. So, now it looses collant cold or hot. What is that an indication of?
  4. 1s thanks! Is 55K miles normal for a H2O pump failure on a 996? Seems low miles for such a failure......
  5. Well guys, it's not the hose clamp for sure, and it's not a hose. It appears to be the pump so I guess it'll be a bit more than the qucik fix I was thinking it may be. Thanks for all your help!.
  6. You need a vacuum coolant system re-filler to do it right. Do you have one? No I don't, where do I get one and is it worth buying? I read something about facing the car downward after the fill? Will that not do? I was reading your DIY.... Good to talk to you again Loren after a few years.
  7. If it's only a hose clamp replacement Id' like to tackle it myself but I can't find the DIY for bleeding the cooling system, can someone please point me to it? Thanks again for all your help!
  8. Thank you for the info gents, good stuff! I think I'lltake it to the dealer because spark plugs also need to be replaced and tierodends in the front are making a popping noise when cold. What's disturbing to meis that I have such issues(exclude the plugs) and the car only has 55K miles. Iguess even though the car is a garage queen things do go bad.
  9. Good morning all, My Y2K Carrera is ailing all of a sudden. It seems it sprung a coolant leak as evidenced by the pics below. Wondering if it's a stuck thermostat or a water pump that would be causing this particular leak from that location. The computer says it's between 184-194 deg when the cooling system starts leaking so it almost seems that something's preventing coolant flow when the engine gets up to operating temp. I replaced the cap, had an old one as spare but that didn't do the trick. Any troubleshooting assistance you can provide for me to get this repaired will be very much appreciated. I'd like to determine if this is a job for the dealer and if so what I should expect it to cost.
  10. Good morning gang, Here lately my 2000 996 Cabrio is emanating all sort of grinding noises, and a bumping feel, when in reverse and cutting the wheels way to left or right. Are there grease fittings below or am I looking at replacement of front end parts? At 51,000 miles is this normal? Thanks,
  11. Thank you all very much for your inputs and thank you for the offer to zero win911 but a ride from Bama to LA and back would be kinda longish just to clear this code...on second thought it may be a good enough reason to take a cross counry drive in a most enjoyable vehicle ;) Have not repaired yet, simply have not had the time to take it in to the dealer but I will. It'll probably end up being the driver's side seat belt buckle.
  12. My OBD2 was not cheap. Cost me close to $250 if I remember correctly and it's laptop based. But it won't recognize this fault and won't zero the airbag so obviously the Durametric is a better product. Hate to spend more money after bad money but that's life I guess. Wonder what a dealer would charge to check/zero. Could be my driver's belt buckle, been acting up lately...Thank you for the info gentlemen!
  13. Hi all, my 2000 996's airbag light has come on (with a littel over 50K on the odometer) and I am unable to reset it with my OBD II diagnostic scanner. Is this an item that must be reset at the dealer or will disconnecting the battery do the trick? There does not appear to be anything wrong with the aibag but I could be wrong. You suggestions will be appreciated!
  14. Forumites, just a quick note to tell you how happy I am for having found, and dealing with Shane Hiers/Porsche of Omaha (he's the parts manager). I've never before been so taken care of by the service of any one dealer I've ever dealt with :clapping: BTW, I have no financial interest with Porsche of Omaha, I just want to pass on to you a good thing. Contact info: email: SHiers@Woodhouse.com phone: 402-592-1000
  15. It would help to verify that the car is unlocked. False alarm, sorry 'bout that :) At least I learned something, thanks Kim.
  16. Kim, I don't see a cable loop, do I need to remove the plastic protecting cover off of the right front wheel well?
  17. Thank you Kim! Mine is a 2K 996 cab, but I thought that the inside lever is a mechanical function, not electrical. I just finished washing the car so I'll go digging under the right fender. Funny thing is I have a few pipe and fitting items in the trunk from yesterday that I need to get to in order in order to fix some bluming....freakin' Murphy :(
  18. Guys, I used the trunk lid yesterday and it worked fine but today I cant release it. The lever inside the car won't budge, what's going on? Is there a release in case this happens? Thanks, gcp
  19. SDP which part of Alabama? I'm in Huntsville and may need to replace the plastic window since where it folds it's getting whitish so, I am interested in who your installer will be. Thanks,
  20. Truly a beautiful car Niko, congratulations and welcome to our forum. Prosoxi sto odigima, Yiwrgos
  21. No there are no threads showing but I did not know if there can exist some kind of minute slop once you seat the filter inside the canister and once the valve has grabbed/holds the filter in place. I'll leave well enough alone. Thanks,
  22. Loren, I was pressing but I was afraid of crossthreading. And since I found that the filter snapped into place within the canister I figured that's another viable way of mounting it but in retrospect should I worry about a gap between the filter and the block? Should I remove the filter and re-install? Thanks,
