  1. The Passport power wiring worked like a charm. But I wired mine to turn off with the driver's side lamp switch, 'cause I didn't find the solder joint on the PC board that would cut off power with the remote key. Where exactly did you solder the +12 plima? And sorry for the obviously dirty windshield guys, I know, very shabby look for a 996 but I've been on travel for a week. Tomorrow will be a wash and wax day, I promise <_< . Also, for those of you that would like to increase the volume out of your Ipod or Nomad, here's an idea. Use the Bostaroo to amplify the sound a bit more. Used this little amp on my motorcycles for years now and it still hums along (pun intended) :jump:
  2. It is of interest to me also...Monday I lost my cell phone so I plan to replace it with one of Bluetooth capability. Any ideas on where to buy unlocked cell phones or the Siemens or Palm Treo 650? Thanks,
  3. That's it right there!! :clapping: :clapping:
  4. Guys, as the pics show I've mounted my passport close to the interior lights, high enough to be as effective as possible. I'd like to get rid of the cumbersome cigarette lighter cable and wire the detector to the light fixture next to it. Probably need to create a voltage drop from 12V to 5V some how, but how easy is it to remove the lenses and to pass a couple of wires through them? Don't want to remove and/or risk breaking things if I don't need to. Thanks,
  5. Saturday I installed the connector/wiring I purchased from Becker to my CDR-220. Easy enough to do and now I am able to hard wire my Nomad to my Carrera stereo. One minor point, if you don't want to have to input the radio code (I don't have mine) do not disconnect the connectors of your CDR while installing the AUX connector/wiring. There's enough wiring slack there to achieve your task without disconnecting power.
  6. I love my battery tender, use it on motorcycles and car batteries. At around $45 you can't go wrong.
  7. Guys, the dealer I bought the car from now tells me that he does not have the original 2000 manual for my Carrera Cabrio :censored: even though he promised me one when I bought the car off his lot. He said he found a 1999 manual he can send me and that it is the same manual. Is this true? Thanks, gcp
  8. My light is back on only after maybe 50 miles and 3 days worth of driving :censored:
  9. Nick, welcome to the fold! It is a very nice looking car that you have purchased, congratulations and enjoy the ride :clapping: Don't know about your first question but on number two; I like to shift at about 4K RPM for normal driving. Of course road conditions matter but you can hear/feel the engine when it's happy. On the interstate when cruising for best MPG/less engine wear, the lower the RPMs the better. 6th in these cars is amazing! gcp
  10. mtimmy, there's never a shortage for varying opinions and that's what makes life interesting I guess. As long as one determines what works best for them..... Never quite used 76 but I'll give it a try. Thanks, gcp
  11. doncapecod, I also practice the same principle but at least once per month I'll run some Chevron gas through all my vehicles. I like their products a lot! gcp
  12. Lets try my question again! "BTW where is the DIY on this? Can't seem to find it. Being new around here are the DIY procedures pinned? Any suggestions on which replacement coolant I should buy/use?" Thanks, gcp
  13. Nop, no real resolution to the CEL problem as of yet. But since last Sunday my light has stayed off :clapping: ...Of course I'm not holding my breath! gcp
  14. doncapecod, go to http://www.kanolabs.com/ and read their explanations. I for one noticed reduced oil consumption in my Ranger and better drivability. I know, drivability is a seat of the pants indicator but it counts with me. Getting ready to do my 94 Audi 100 as we speak. Don't know if Porsche makes a cleaner or not. Thanks, gcp
  15. Have any of you guys used the Kano labs product Kreen (Internal Engine Cleaner) in your 911s? I’ve used it with good results on other vehicles but would like to make sure it’s ok to use it in a Porsche. Don’t want to hurt the cat or any other internal components. Thanks, gcp
  16. Guys, since the expansion tank design seems to have systemic design/fabrication problems has there possibly been a Porsche recall on this issue? slbates, thanks for your suggestions I will order the water level switch and the new cap today. BTW where is the DIY on this? Can't seem to find it. Being new around here are the DIY procedures pinned? Any suggestions on which replacement coolant I should buy/use? Thanks, gcp
  17. I now suspect that the CEL may be because of my leaking expansion tank...and I am just guessing here but lets solve the obvious first. The mechanic said this code means MAF problems. So cleaning the part may prove worthwhile after all  Thanks, gcp
  18. Loren, your number is correct. I've already ordered the same from Jeff for $164.43. Now I'll have to deal with the mechanic's time. Is 2 hours labor reasonable and should I insist on it? Thanks, gcp
  19. Jeff Clark is the man, courteous and his org. is very reasonable in price. The expansion tank alone was close to $100 cheaper than all the others I called. And the lens was $10 cheaper. Thank you very much for turning me on to him  BTW, it's dealer cost +15%+ shipping=a great deal for us. gcp
  20. Loren, my car is a 2000 911 Carrera Cabriolet, USA model I believe. Thanks, gcp PS. djantlive thanks for the advise, I'll talk to him about it.
  21. Today I was introduced to a Porsche mechanic who will probably be servicing my 996 (independent shop, we don’t yet have a dealer in Huntsville). He started telling me while inside his shop that the coolant expansion tanks have a tendency to leak due to the way the sensor is mounted at the bottom of the tank. He said it just turns and locks into place without even the use of an o-ring, kind of like a simple twist fit. And wouldn’t you know it, the minute we walked outside there’s a small coolant puddle under my car. Never noticed a leak before, in the week I’ve owned the car, so I don’t know if it just occurred or I just didn’t notice it (very much doubt it). My question to you is, if this is an inherently (Porsche) bad design, is there an after market tank available out there? Have any of you experienced this problem and if so how did you rectify it permanently? He estimated about 4 hours labor and about $250 for the tank but I am reluctant to give him the go ahead only to have it happen again. :help: Thanks, gcp
  22. Guys, I need to purchase the lower triangular portion of the left head light for a 2K Carrera. Removed the headlight assembly last evening and tried to fix it with glue and silicon but the glue fogged up the lens and it now looks worst than the original problem of H2O accumulation. Any suggestions on where to mail order from? Thanks, gcp
  23. Loren, I checked all of the above yesterday and it all seems to be in order, that's why I was thinking of tackling the MAF. Thanks, gcp
  24. Thanks for your input Loren. The dealer is 79 miles one way from me and I will get down there eventually but in the mean time how do I go about finding, removing, cleaning and reinstalling the MAF? Any specific direction on doing this job pinned here or elsewhere? Thanks, gcp
