  1. If it's only a hose clamp replacement Id' like to tackle it myself but I can't find the DIY for bleeding the cooling system, can someone please point me to it?

    You need a vacuum coolant system re-filler to do it right. Do you have one?

    No I don't, where do I get one and is it worth buying? I read something about facing the car downward after the fill? Will that not do? I was reading your DIY....

  2. Thank you for the info gents, good stuff! I think I'lltake it to the dealer because spark plugs also need to be replaced and tierodends in the front are making a popping noise when cold. What's disturbing to meis that I have such issues(exclude the plugs) and the car only has 55K miles. Iguess even though the car is a garage queen things do go bad.

  3. Good morning all,

    My Y2K Carrera is ailing all of a sudden. It seems it sprung a coolant leak as evidenced by the pics below. Wondering if it's a stuck thermostat or a water pump that would be causing this particular leak from that location. The computer says it's between 184-194 deg when the cooling system starts leaking so it almost seems that something's preventing coolant flow when the engine gets up to operating temp. I replaced the cap, had an old one as spare but that didn't do the trick.

    Any troubleshooting assistance you can provide for me to get this repaired will be very much appreciated. I'd like to determine if this is a job for the dealer and if so what I should expect it to cost.

  4. Thank you all very much for your inputs and thank you for the offer to zero win911 but a ride from Bama to LA and back would be kinda longish just to clear this code...on second thought it may be a good enough reason to take a cross counry drive in a most enjoyable vehicle ;)

    Have not repaired yet, simply have not had the time to take it in to the dealer but I will. It'll probably end up being the driver's side seat belt buckle.

  5. My OBD2 was not cheap. Cost me close to $250 if I remember correctly and it's laptop based. But it won't recognize this fault and won't zero the airbag so obviously the Durametric is a better product. Hate to spend more money after bad money but that's life I guess. Wonder what a dealer would charge to check/zero. Could be my driver's belt buckle, been acting up lately...Thank you for the info gentlemen!

  6. Hi all, my 2000 996's airbag light has come on (with a littel over 50K on the odometer) and I am unable to reset it with my OBD II diagnostic scanner. Is this an item that must be reset at the dealer or will disconnecting the battery do the trick? There does not appear to be anything wrong with the aibag but I could be wrong.

    You suggestions will be appreciated!

  8. Thank you Kim! Mine is a 2K 996 cab, but I thought that the inside lever is a mechanical function, not electrical. I just finished washing the car so I'll go digging under the right fender.

    Funny thing is I have a few pipe and fitting items in the trunk from yesterday that I need to get to in order in order to fix some bluming....freakin' Murphy :(
