  1. Put it back. Same great sound and car won't take any water ever again. Let's hope so.

    De-snorkeling will not bring in water. Look at the design of the snorkel,it can serve as a reservoir to hold water,not protect the car from ingesting it.

    It's HIGHLY unlikely that your intake will suck in anything,it would have to heads upwards on the intake box,pass the air filter and then it would hit the throttle body and onto the engine. Oh yeah that would have to happen after water is shot into the intake at a 90 degree angle......not gonna happen.

  2. Couple of quick questions

    I noticed that automatic/tiptronic Boxsters(possibly 996s as well) have the center radiator just like GT3s do. I also noticed that they don't have way of air cooling them down due to the lack of the center air vent in the bumper.

    Is the plumbing on the center radiator on the automatics the same as the GT3 radiator mod?

    If I were to mount the radiator kit to a base 99' 986 w/o the center air vent it should be 0.k. correct? The only disadvantage would be that I'm not cooling it as efficiently(but still cooling it better then if I didn't have it) as I would if I had a 996 or GT3 bumper correct?

  3. It's not that simple. I highly doubt the 996 uses the same mounting point as our cars do. Many times you do a caliper swap you need to make up a bracket to relocate you caliper. Maybe somebody else can tell us here... Or you have to swap your hub which then means your making up custom drive shafts with a 996 end on one side and 986 end on the other. Then you will need the rotors and pads.

    I was under the impression that Boxster S calipers were 996 anyway so you should just look at upgrading to those F&R.

    Honestly unless your going to be racing there is not much point the stock 986 brakes are really good and if you replace the pads and rotors with something high performance etc you should get all the braking power you could need on the street.

    no.1 less brake fade when I really get on the brakes

    no.2 those 996 & TT brakes look pretty darn sweet

    no.3 My front rotors may need to be changed soon why not,one of those 'while you're there things'

  4. How hard is it to install 996 or 996TT brake calipers on a base 99' 986? Would it mess up the braking system if I just installed the huge front calipers from a 996TT and left the rear the same?

    On a side note,how do you disengage the old brake fluid line and install the new one if I were to do so?

  5. Hey Carlos,

    Just swap the tranny completely,it may be less $$$$ labor wise then swapping out the syncros.

    I've seen the 2.5L trannies go for $500-$1.5k,not too much. If your going to go this route then you might want to swap out the 2.5L clutch with a 2.7L clutch just incase you want to give your Box. more power in the future. One of those,'while your there' things. :P

    Does anyone know if he could mount up a 986 S/996 tranny to it?

  6. I just installed one of the ebay knock-offs and I have to say I am quite happy with it. The gears are a bit harder to engage but I guess this is normal. Another thing I noticed and maybe related to what is discussed here is that now when in gear the lever is not 100% stable - it rocks left-right and forward-backward a tiny bit (maybe 1-2mm each direction). I cannot remeber how the stock lever was, so I wonder if this rocking is because of the short-shift and whether there is something I can do to get it fixed!

    It's normal,mine has a minute amount of play as well. I checked out my dads 100% stock 996 and his has a tiny bit of play. I wouldn't worry about it. If I noticed it when I drove then it could be an issue,but it doesn't so I'm o.k.

    As an example, I ordered my ROW M030 suspension kit late last December and it finally showed up at the end of June!

    That had to be a mistake by Sunset. I ordered my RoW 030 kit for my 5spd at the end of April and had it installed by mid-May.

    So hopefully they will be there when you get back.

I had considered the RS ducts, but couldn't stomach the price, heard they would probably scrape and break off, and really gave up on the idea when I read somewhere that the bigger ducts were made for larger disks, and would actually channel the air to where the calipers would sit on larger disks. Effectively channeling more air to the wrong location and less air than the stock ducts where it's needed for cooling. These hopefully won't have that problem, but easy to experiement with at this price. I can probably keep one side stock, switch the other side to the new ducts, go for a ride, then measure temps on each side with a laser thermometer to see if there's any difference

    Please let us know how it turns out,I'm interested in the mod.

  9. Then I called Sunset. They also confirmed the 997 GT3 ducts will fit no problem, should shove a little more air into the brakes, and their price each side is $7.94!

    I need parts #s A.S.A.P.! 997-341-483-92 and 997-341-484-92 are the correct 997 GT3 brake ducts correct?

    But for $16

    Amazing price! Why in the world are the 996 GT3 ducts $100+/each then the 997 GT3s are not even 10% the price of the 996 GT3?
