    958-611-105-21 Battery 105 AH

You can measure your current battery dimensions for form and fit.

From the 2011 Cayenne Tech Book (available to all Contributing Members here)

    "AGM (Absorbed Glass Mat) technology

A 12 V 92 Ah 520 A AGM battery is used in the Cayenne; a 12 V 105 Ah 580 A AGM battery is optionally available for colder regions. The battery is located under the left seat in the direction of travel.

The battery is based on AGM (Absorbed Glass Mat) technology. Special micro glass fiber mats lie between the lead plates of the battery and contain all of the battery acid. The absorbing capacity of the glass fiber mats is designed so that although the acid is completely absorbed by the matting, the degree of saturation of the matting is not reached. The sealed system is equipped with a pressure relief valve for the safe discharge of any gases.

The battery remains leak-proof and dry. Expanding liquid due to frost cannot cause any damage. Furthermore, by packaging the plates in micro glass fiber mats there is virtually no further movement of the plates, which means that vibration has no effect on the battery.

The entire electrolyte is bound by the acid in the matting, which means that there is no need for the maintenance tasks of filling with water and inspecting the electrolyte. AGM batteries are designed with an extremely low internal resistance, resulting in a faster reaction between the acid and the plate material. Higher energy quantities can therefore be produced even in demanding situations such as charging in extreme cold.

Battery replacement must be communicated to the gateway using PIWIS Diagnosis Tester II, specifying the (A) serial number/( B) part number/manufacturer and the battery size under Maintenance/Battery replacement. For charging, a charger with at least 40 A should be connected.

For jump-lead starting, a jump lead should only be connected directly to the external power supply connections in the engine compartment, as otherwise the battery sensor could be damaged and incorrect information (battery charging directly at the battery sensor) forwarded to the gateway.

    Battery sensor

The battery sensor is located on the negative terminal of the battery, it is part of the energy management system (battery management). The battery sensor is connected between the negative terminal of the battery and the ground cable.

The purpose of measuring the battery size is to determine the battery condition with sufficient accuracy and to identify closed-circuit current faults in vehicle electrical system diagnosis in production and service.

The following measured variables are measured directly by the sensor

    • Battery current

    • Battery voltage

    • Measurement of the temperature at the negative terminal

The battery current and battery voltage are measured simultaneously"

    Hey  how are you?

Is this battery coding for cayenne turbo's a real issue?  I have read differing opinions, where some people say its not  required..I am having some issues and the dealer insists that its because I have an aftermarket battery which is not coded for the car, and they want me to install an OEM battery and recode it.  My trusted and regular indy Porsche shop cannot pinpoint the issue with my car, however he doesn't think the battery coding is necessary.  I trust him, but need to get my car sorted...already replaced ignition switch and brake switch, was thinking about the battery relay.  I don't want to spend big bucks on a "Porsche" battery from stealership if its a "scam"..thanks in advance.

    Sincerely,

    Dylan

  2. Hey guys

I have had my 99 Carrera for a couple of years now..I have always wondered about the engine specs.

I know the MY99 is a 3.4l engine...but on my car, the plate inside the engine bay cover states displacement: 3596cc....which is 3.6l...is this correct or do I not have the original engine that the car came with? I need to order some parts now so need to make sure I order the right stuff.

Your input will be greatly appreciated.

    Regards

    Dylan

    PS

If it helps I can attach a photo of the specs inside the engine bay..

  3. I just ordered new idler pulleys, both upper and lower 997 102 118 00 and 997 102 119 00, for my 99 carrera.

My son removed the pulleys from the packaging and now I cannot tell which is which..they look both the same with the exception of the washer on one side...I didn't see any part number on the pulleys (I must be blind) and since they have different part numbers on the packaging, it must matter which one goes where.

Can somebody please help me identify which one is upper and which is lower please...I posted a photo underneath.

    Thanks in advance,

    Regards,

    Dylan

  4. I ad exact same issue in my 99 carrera..deutsche parts pump failed after about 1500miles..I also only bought it because of the metal impeller which was recommended on some youtube videos.

The lesson I learned: not worth saving a few bucks on el cheapo aftermarket parts promising that "made in Germany"=good quality...bought genuine Porsche part now and will install next week.. Will never buy aftermarket rubbish again...now I have to do the job again.

  5. HEY, I followed JeTexas's excellent DIY video to change my waterpump... I also changed the alternator and polyrib belt previous month...I bought a decent looking replacement water pump from autohausz ..oe fitment etc...now after exactly 2 months..I hear a belt noise from the rear..no bearing/grinding noise...car runs great...no leaks, etc...not overheating.

i removed belt and if I turn waterpump by hand it makes a slight squeak.!?!?!? like a dry rubber maybe?

Should I have used Porsche coolant and replaced all idler/accessory/tensioner pulleys as well..??wasn't sure but they turned easy..no play or grinding noise, although they did spin more freely than my new water pump & alternator pulleys.

Alternator was a NAPA part that Checkered Flag Porsche dealer ordered and installed for me along with original Porsche polyrib belt.

I couldn't afford to support the stealership anymore, so the following month when water pump started leaking I replaced myself with autohausz pump and filled system with peak 50/50 phosphate free /silicate free formula coolant -as this was recommended to me... is this the cause of my squeak? I hear a belt type noise while driving like a squeak/squeal/slipping belt?..it goes away when clutch is in, or in neutral , but if I rev then I can hear it.....please help..could my new water pump be going after only 2 months?..what caused it & how can I prevent this in the future?..should I replace pump now...and/or other pulleys?? since I know water pump squeaks when turned by hand..bearings still tight..no grinding etc..no play that I can feel on pulley..no leaks...what should I do..I'm pulling my hair out.!!!

I'm at my wit's end. Dylan 99 carrera 70,xxx miles

  6. My '99 carrera has 70,000mi.

Just recently replaced alternator, water pump and polyrib belt.

Now hearing some belt noise at the rear...the idler pulleys and tensioner and accessory pulleys don't have significant play although their bearings are not as tight as the water pump and alternator..not sure if thats within spec even or not...should they be real tight too.

I noticed too however that if i turn water pump by hand it makes a slight squeak kind of noise...its brand new German part...bearing feels tight and good..no play..no leaks ..car runs like a champ...belt noise is worse when i rev the engine....

I don't know what to do..really don't feel like changing the water pump if there is no other fix..big job when u don't have anyone to help u...please help.

    Thanks Dylan.
