  1. Thanks Stronbl. I will pass this idea along to the techs if we still have no luck after checking the speaker. Just got back from the dealer with a 2012 Cayenne loaner. What a monster ! But comfy. Will hold all my hockey gear nicely as I play today. Saw the new Boxster there as well. Certainly some solid improvements - looks a bit Carrera GT ish from the front. Back end much better.

  2. Removed the chrono today and unfortunately, it's not the clock as it rattles when driven with it removed. So next we'll try the small speaker in the dash in front of the clock mounting. The dealer is very responsive and eager to fix this but it takes so much freaking time to keep toing and froing on this. I love this car for so many reasons, but with an irritating rattle since new, it ain't what they advertise it to be and believe me, they will fix it or they will give me another C4S. I will be diplomatic but I will NOT go away until it is resolved. I have written to Porsche corporate already so they must be aware. Persistence after all is the key to success in almost everything. Wish me luck and hopefully it gets resolved soon.

  3. My 2011C4S has this problem as well. It sounds like a buzzing kind of rattle as you say like paperclips in a cup or maybe a toaster element being shaken - when on coarse road surfaces it's incessant. Drives me nuts. I have been thinking it's my chrono clock but sounds like you don't have one of these. These things are often hard to pinpoint but I am determined to have this fixed as a vehicle of this quality and price should not have such an issue - and certainly not an issue that can't be remediated.

  4. My 2011 C4S has sport chrono option with clock and ever since day one there has been a buzzy kind of rattle that comes from the dash that sounds like a loose fitting or somethin inside the clock. This noise is especially bad on coarse road surfaces where it buzzes constantly. It drives me crazy. I've had two different dealers look into it - they do things like add felt inside the dash etc. but it has not solved the problem and in fact it has gotten worse lately. Has anyone else had this issue or are there any ideas out there ? As with most dash rattles it may be hard to pionpoint but I am now convinced it's the clock as it comes directly from there. I don't even use the **** thing and would be happy to swap it out for a hard wired radar detector or something useful. Ideas / comments anyone ??

  5. Looks much better than some of the earlier "spyshots" with the essential design elements still all 911. The back end will take some getting used to. I would definitely rebadge and leave out the P O R S C H E lettering. I like a simple 911 or in this case 991. The new console is excellent - my Panamera 4 had that new cockpit feel and was great. Still haven't finished breaking in my C4S but had it out on a windy country road again today and am still smiling two hours later.

  6. My '09 C4S has about 54,000 miles and I will soon need to replace my front tires. The front tires are Michelin Pilot Sport "N" rated tires. They have been on the car for almost 35,000 miles.

I had Michelin Pilot Sports on the rear but they only lasted 16,000 miles.

My current rear tires still have plenty of useful life in them although honestly I may change them as well. Currently I'm running Hankook Ventus V12 tires on the rear. They are not "N" rated tires and I must say that although they have worn well and still have plenty of useful life in them after 19,000 miles, they do not have the performance feel to them of the Michelin Pilot Sports they replaced. They don't grip the road and handle the way the Michelin Pilot Sports did. I guess I traded performance and handling for durability and price.

All that now said, I am asking for input from the group about experience with replacement tires. I am thinking of putting a new set of "N" rated tires on the front now. Then in a few months when the Hankooks are more worn replace them as well with "N" rated tires. However, I am not opposed to replacing all four tires and just put the Hankooks in storage in case I need them in the future.

Does anyone have any comments about which "N" rates tires to get or avoid? I'm not looking to get into a debate over whether or not to get "N" rate tires - I've been down that road before. I'm simply asking for recommendations about which "N" rated tires people like or dislike. I drive about 100 miles a day on good highways in central Texas. I have plenty of opportunity to get my C4S up to autobaun speeds, not that I would ever exceed the speed limit. I like a quiet tire but I realize that a quiet ride in a C4S is something of an oxymoron.

    Any feedback?

  7. I am fortunate to be in a position to where I have convinced my boss (who happens to be my father.....horray for nepotism) to give me a company car. He is aware that I am really wanting a 2012 Carrera 2 S (PDK, sports exhaust, chrono package, etc). It lands somewhere near $110,0000. However, at the same dealership, there is a 911 Carrera Black Edition with PDK for $92,000.

My question is, will I be absolutely kicking myself if I went with the Black Edition, instead of the Carrera 2 S? I was feeling a little guilty about the $110,000, but I also want to make sure that I get a very solid 911 (performance wise).

I'm aware of the engine displacement different (3.6 vs. 3.8). Is there a huge performance difference between the two cars?

    Thank you very much!

The Black Edition is a bargain - you're getting $10K in options free. I just bought a 2011 C4S, which at 385 HP is overpowered for most situations off track. A regular C4 is hard to find these days. Also the Black will be a limited edition with it's own number - they are only making 1911 of them so there will be a collector aspect which is cool. Also the 997 has been redesigned for 2012 with a new 901 body to be revealed next month. I've seen the spy shots and personally, I wanted the 997 - less bulky and basically perfected after these years of rigorous German refinement. The Black Edition Coupe is the way to go - much more room than the Cab and looks better and is safer. And you can appear to be frugal for your Dad. Just my opinion of course.
