No that is not normal. You should never have a 1000 rpm change during warm up. You should check for codes..

Just make sure you do research on this company.. I have never heard of them.. Warranty companies are famous for using fine print in their contracts to get out of paying claims...I have had good experience with Easy Care. They have a good reputation. You might want to call them for a quote as well. Ask you dealer about them too. If you have a good local Indie call them and see what warranty companies they have dealt with.. Proceed with caution. There are a lot of bad companies out there..

You could always put L & N's IMS kit (since that is the major cause of 996 engine fallures) in the car and keep the balance of the $4k in a savings account for future repairs.

If it's offered by the dealership see if they will stand behind the coverage offered by CNA.. Something in writing woud be nice.. If the dealership offers it it's possibly okay.. Dealerships LOVE warranty work. If this company had a bad rep for not paying claims it's unlikely the dealership would offer it.

What are the asking for the warranty and what does it cover?

What is fair compensation when a doctor makes a misdiagnosis? Usually a lawsuit correct? These people are supposed to be Porsche experts correct? Any SKILLED shop should be able to diagnose a failed IMS. They just checked now with Porsche now to see what bearing set up you had? That would be the first thing they should have done..

I wouldn't give them a dime.. If they give you a hard time take them to small claims You can file online in 15 minutes.

Porsche has gotten most of the power they can out of their normally aspirated engines. Some chips are even $1000 but you would need one of those, headers, and low restriction cats to come close to 30 HP.

Not usually worth the money - especially when you could trade up for a Turbo and almost double your HP.

I got the H&R performance spring kit that lowered my 1999 C2 aproximately 1 inch. The spec sheet mentioned lowering 1.0 to 1.5 inch, but in my case it was 1 inch wich i am happy with.

I also got the Bilstein (sport) schocks. They also do an (HD) version but I understood that the sport shocks were more suitable with the lowering.

I have absolutely no problems with the 295 30 18 rubbing or touching, but remember that I have a C2 and not sure about you C4.

My 997 Turbo makes all kinds of racket...All the Mezger engines do.. I wouldn't be too concerned about it.... If you running 0-40w oil try (your choice) of 5-40w (Porsche approved of course) Synth oil on your next oil change. It quiets the engine noticeably...

The stock 997 turbo clutch is a bit strange. It's so soft at first it's awkward. My friends with Carrera's drive my car and have a terrible time finding the "engagement point". After a few minutes they get used to it..

I don't know if I would want it stiffer though..Because I do live in L.A.. :drive:

It's not that is says "Porsche" it that is says P O R S C H E. Over spaced letters combined with model number below in a different font. It looks horrible. Porsche (from any era) has always been tasteful.

A friend who is the manager at Rusnak Porsche told me 75% of buyers of the 991 have the letters removed after purchase. The either stay with PORSCHE of the model but not both.

Compare pictures of the 996, 997 and the 991 rear emblem.. You don't see a problem? Maybe they could spell out "Made in Germany" as well...

I had 19's on one of my 996's.. I would recommend to stay with 18's and lower the car.

Don't totally give up. Logray rebuilt his engine with no previous experience. I'm not saying you could do it yourself but I'm sure there are guys near you who can do a rebuild. Do you even know what the damage to the engine is?

I have been where you are and I agree.. I wanted to throw up... Do a lot of research now and compare your options.. Then make a decision...

I'm a bit confused about your insurance as well... Collision and comprehensive do not cover engine failure. What kind of policy do you have that would pay for an engine failure? (unless you mean a warranty policy.)

NO MOTOR MEISTER!!!! Please move caustiously. Motor Meister are well known crooks (Do a search.) Also stay away from Fabian Rooke. DO NOT consider a 3.6 conversion..

How much is your insurance going to give you? If the car is in great condition you may want to buy it back.. You could piece it out if you had to.

I'm sure there are people in your area that can rebuild your engine if you choose to do so. You may want to buy a used engine.

Or you can just buy another Carrera...Lots of great cars out there.

But PLEASE be very careful who you do business with, Run it by us first...

A puddle that sucked in water? That is a very bizzare diagnosis. I hope your engine is okay. I feel your pain, I went through a blown motor a few years ago. It's good news that your oil is clear. But as Logray said it probably wasn't wise to keeping running the engine when it was exhibiting such behavior.

Get your car to a good Porsche tech and have a proper diagnosis.. A lot of time these stories have happy endings.. I hope the best for you and let us know what you find..

I would love to have a new set of HRE's but at at about $3k+ a corner with tires.... I don't think so.....

Unfortunetly it sounds like a catastrophic water pump failure that led to severe overheating and probably a cracked head or cylinder. If your oil looks like a milkshake (on your dipstick) you have the dreaded "intermix"

That means a rebuild or a new engine. Hope it's not the case but it's exactly what happened to my 996...

I want to keep my stock TT wheels but would like to give them a makeover. I was thinking about having the center spoke (of each of the 5 spokes) painted the same graphite color as the inside of the rim. I did some photoshop work to see how it would look. (this is not my car but almost identical.)

I think it would look really nice...It keeps the classic Porsche "5 spoke" feel but tones down the "busy" design of the 997 TT wheel. Of course I would have this done by a professional wheel shop..

Also... Does anyone know the color code for that grey? (Or where or how I could find it?)
