  1. Dave,

I have the Fabspeed cold air intake, airbox kit, headers, high performance cats and free flow mufflers on my 99 996 coupe (all Fabspeed). I have never dyno tested the car for actual gains but.....

I can tell you it kicks a stock 996 ***!!

The headers do not change the sound but add 10 to 12 hp.

The cats add about the same but make the car quite a bit louder ( I like it but some people would hate it.)

If you are concerned about sound maybe just go with the free flow mufflers, air box kit and chip. Makes a huge difference and has a really nice throaty sound.

I find the Fabspeed mufflers sound much more appealing than the Porsche factory sport exaust (which to me sounds like a bucket of bolts)

I'm running the stock filter. My mechanic (master Porsche mechanic for 19 years) told me there is no real benefit to using a K & N. I trust him and the car sounds awesome as is.

    Hope this helps!!

    Phillip

  2. Passenger side pipe is banging against diff. Fabspeed claims poor installation. Uhm....I think I have done this before. Anyone else having installation issues or problems with Fabspeed products. They have not been helpful. I was thinking about just replacing stock cats. Would like to consider intake and computer upgrades. Vehicle has 22"CEC's with Techart body kit and lowering kit.

    Hello,

I have the Fabspeed sport exaust, free flow cats and chip and cold air intake. Very happy with them but I never did any of the installation. I have freinds that track with the bypass pipes and they have never mentioned a problem with fit. Did you do the work yourself? They make it sound easy on their site.

By the way the Cats will give you about 12 HP and more torque but they are a bit louder. I love the sound but some think it is too much. The headers will give same gains with no change in sound.

By the mods you have done to the car it seems you wouldnt mind a bit more sound. Post a pic of your car if you can.. Would love to see the 22's and the body kit.

Hope this was of some help.

    Take care

  3. I have been reading all of the posts about engine failure and it scares the hell out of me!!

I have a 99 C2 that I bought 2 years ago with 45k mils on it. It now has 58k. I have never had one single problem with it. Im the third owner. Looking through the records the car has never had a problem of any kind mechanically. I've changed the oil and that's it. :clapping:

Im about to do the 60k maintainance. Any tips about things that should be checked??? (besides the usual 60k items).

I have had BMW's and BENZ's in the past and they were nothing but headaches and breakdowns.

My Porsche has been a real treat to own. I drive it hard but dont beat it up.

I'm so sorry that you guys have these horror stories and have taken such a financial beating.

Any advice to look for any suspicious engine problems would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks and good luck with your new engines!!!

  4. I love my fabs, not too loud at all, wifes not a problem, she hates the suspension to start with.

Phillip, I think I'm gonna make a treck to Joe's place for a set of headers, chip and dyno session.

I have the FabSpeed Chip, airbox upgrade and cold air intake and the headers and cats. The cats make it quite a bit louder. The headers alone (according to Fabspeed) will cause no increase in sound.

The performance increase is awesome. I love everything I have bought from them and the quality is outstanding.

I have been around racing all my life and I just can't leave anything stock. Will not touch the motor though!!

I ended up removing the Fabspeeds, regardless of the dB meter, the wife meter was beeping. Realistically, too loud for crusing, the resonance was really unbearable to some neighbors asking me if I had a bad muffler. So I put the stocks back on.

Now, I installed GHL's, just bought them from Dave-G. His description was perfect for me, so I decided to try them out. Dave shipped them immediately, installed them this weekend. (Thanks again Dave)

I got to say, they are the perfect combination for me. Just a bit lower note than stock up to about 3500-4000 rpm, from there on up they sound just like the Fabspeed. The throttle response is pretty good too. I had noticed when I hung the stocks back after removing the Fabspeeds that the backpressure was quite different and throttle response harder.

So for now, I will spend a month with the GHL's. But first impression, they are good to stay.

Fabspeeds anyone before they go to Ebay?

    Izzy

I really don't understand why you keep whining about your Fabspeeds. If you don't like them that is fine.. But why the constant bashing? I love mine and everyone including my wife loves the sound. Maybe you should just get a Prius. They make no sound at all.

Not sure what prompted the personal attack. But I rather keep this forum professional and about Porsche information. Just stating an opinion based on testing of three units.

    Sorry Izzy,

That was un called for. I think your input is very helpful. Hope you enjoy the new mufflers

I have a 1999 996 Carrera Coupe. I bought the car 6 months agao. It came with the fabspeed mufflers and cold intake and chip.

I recently added the Fabspeed headers and high flow cats. What a difference!!

I gained anothe 25hp with both mods. I strongly reccomend either of these. More power, more torque. Awesome. About 3k for both.

It is definetly louder with the cats but I like that. It's very personal the way we like our cars to sound. The headers (According to Fabspeed) do not effect the sound at all. So maybe if you don't like the increased sound you could just go for the headers.

Had a mechanic friend install for me. The cats are easy but the headers are a bit more labor. Love their products. Will definetly go for the fabspeed products when I get my Turbo.
