  1. I've replaced the regulator with a genuine Porsche unit just to make sure I have a quality product installed.  Everything seems to be lined up and moves freely in both the top seals and window guides.  I've also set the "rake" back to where the original settings were and will adjust from there.  Problem only seems to happen when it's hot outside.  At night or when it's cold works with out any problems.  I've tried to polish/wax the window but didn't see any difference.  I'll give RainX a try, hopefully what will help.  Anything beats replacing the gasket.  Thanks for the advice!

  2. Hey everyone,

Need help on window regulator and window gasket issues.

I've currently replaced the regularor in my 996 (MY 99) 3 times...WTF!!!  (1st) plastic compression fitting near the motor failed. (2nd) The regulator cable got frayed. (3rd) Regulator cable jumped off one of the roller wheels. I believe that the issue is my outer window gasket getting pulled inward as I roll the window down causing certain items on the regulator to fail.  BTW, it only happens when it's hot, I have no problems with the outer gasket when it's cold or at night.  Is there any fix for that other than replacing the entire gasket assembly?

Also, the two bottom nuts that adjust "rake" angle, what exactly do they do?  I set them both inward & outward and didn't notice a difference with how the window sealed.  Am I missing something?

    Thanks,

    Ron

  3. I got my window regulator from "Siera Madre Collection" just because they were local (SoCal) to me and I had a chance got meet the staff. It is an aftermarket product, but unfortunatly I don't remember who makes it.

BTW, I noticed during the summer time that when I would roll down the windows it would occatoinaly "catch" the weather stripping and "roll" it under itself. I now clay bar and use JetSeal 109 everytime I detail the car.

If you haven't already replaced your regulator here is a photo of where the door panel fasteners are, that way you don't have to "fish" around in there with your panel popper.

    Hope this helps.

  4. Ive been doing 35 Fronts and 43 Rears. Just changed my rear tires due to massive inner wear and they told me Im supposed to be at 36 Fronts and Rears?

    Tire Sizes:

    225/40-18 Fronts

    265/35-18 Rears

Also is anyone else having massive inner tire wear? Do these cars have negative camber stock?

    Thanks in advance.

I'm running the same size tires that you are on 8"F & 10"R wheels. I believe that the tire pressures of 36F/44R are for a full load and 32F/36R are for a 1/2 load. IIRC, Porsche issued a TSB about tire pressures.

I'm currently running 32F/36R PSI (weekend car) with stock alignment settings and so far find it a good compromise between ride quality and tire wear. I'm keeping a close "eye" on the rears for cupping and camber wear, so far so good. This wil all change soon since I'm in the process of replacing spings, shocks, & front LCA's.

    Hope this helps :)

  5. I'm no exepet here :) but from my understaning is that "clunk" you are hearing from the front is due to the spirng "loading up" when the front wheels are turned and then releasing the pressure. There should be some kind of thrust washer/bearing that releases the "loading" on the sping that lets that sping spin freely.

As far as the rear goes. I can't remember if the the rear coils (H&R) are "progresive" or not. But, that noise you "might" be hearing could be the "progressive" part of the coil spring making contact with each other.

I had to deal with this issue many times in the past with my previous cars.

    Hope this helps.

  6. Hello everyone,

I know I could call KW and find out on my own :) But, I really wanted to know from users that have KW's what exactly does "Limited Lifetime Warranty" mean, and have you had to deal with that warranty? (i.e. questions regarding replacement, turn around time, etc.)

I know I'm kind of going against the "norm" here. All of my car's in the past/pressent have used Bilstein. (except for my W211 which had Brabus, made by Sachs). Bilstein has a great warranty and great customer support. (street & track side).

The reason I thought about using KW V1's on my 996 is that i can get a pretty good deal on them :clapping: and that they are relatively new (June/2012?) for our fitment. If I decide to go with KW's I would like to put together a short term/long term evaluaion on a 996 that is using them on a DD/DE/track day car.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

    Thanks,

    Ron

  7. I own a 99 996 6 speed (non e-gas) with 96,xxx miles. I'm not new to Pcars but a newbie to the 996. I'm aware of the problems that the M96 engine has and budgeted that into my purchase (minus having to replace engine).

I recently got a loud chain rattle and slapping noise from the right side (bank 2). I replaced the chain tensioners (minus the rear one) and so far all is good. But, after the car has warmed up, I do get a slight ticking noise from bank 2. I believe it might be a bad VarioCam / solenoid going bad. From my understanding those are parts that eventually need to be replaced.

I will replace the clutch, IMS bearing, & the RMS seal soon. I would like to make it a DIY project, but I don't have the space, know how, or the confidence :( Am I taking the right course of action to make her a car that is a reliable daily driver and most of all make her a car that is a keeper :renntech:

  8. 99 C2 6 speed (non e-gas) with 96,xxx miles on her. Just replaced the chain tensioners (PITA) :cursing: Need to do clutch soon and will upgrade to LN IMS and replace RMS. Do have small oil leak coming from VarioCam solenoid (bank 2). Other than that, car runs great. Hope to put 50k miles on her before I have to do any more work.

BTW, just checked oil filter yesterday...clean as a whistle, no debris :clapping:
