I don't believe that my pipes have already been changed, sadly I don't know how to confirm this for sure....
Here is a link on how to tell if your pipes are metal or plastic:

Has this PDF been added to the DIY (I cannot see to find it), or can someone provide it? Just had my driver's side go out on my 04S.

Perhaps an inappropriate question for this forum, so please excuse if so. I just experienced this issue on my 2006 Cayenne S. The repair was around $1000.00 -- mostly labor. Does that sound reasonable, or did I get taken?
I just had this done as well, cost at dealer in my area (Southern California) was $784.92

I just had this issue as well on an 06 Cayenne S @ 68k miles .
Strong fuel smell with no visible leaks.
Took it into the dealer (extended warranty) last week and had the work done.
The cost of parts + the price of the special tools was about the same as my warranty deductible so I went ahead and paid the deducible and had the dealer do the work
QUAN DESCRIPTION Total Cost 4 Labor $600.00 1 955-620-421-00 Flange With Fuel Filter $142.77 2 955-201-133-01 Sealing Ring, Flange $19.78 1 955-620-911-00 Angle Pipe, Fuel $8.67 Total: 784.92
