    There´s no need to dismantle the quarter panel, or anything...this kind of damage can be repaired easily fro outside, using a spot welder.

    A very easy fix!

    The price can vary from $100 to 300$...so get many estimates from good quality bodyshops (many low quality bodyshops just fill the damage with 2 kilos of bodyfiller, without repairing the dent).

    996 C2 MY99

    I have a loose resonance tube control solenoid, and I don´t know where the two vacuum tubes are connected. One is straight, and the other one has a 180º bent on it.

    The solenoid is the one which is NOT the gadget which is fixed to the resonance tube, but rather near the throttle body

    Pls help!

    The nipple that comes out straight from the solenoid goes to the vacuum reserve tank under the intake on the left side. To test this connection, there should be a vacuum when the engine is running. The other tube coming out of the right angled nipple goes directly to the butterfly valve on the back intake tube. You can test this connection by apply suction to the tube and you will hear the butterfly move.

    This solenoid is attached to a clip above and behind the alternator.

    Simply to integrate the 7.8, a lot of rewiring. I should qualify this by stating that while in principle it should work, I haven't completed the project yet, so I can't say for sure that everything is going to work out yet. The egas is the easy part, just need a new pedal and throttle body assembly and run a few new wires.

    You need to control the variocam plus somehow. If you lock out the valve lift (the plus part of variocam plus) to the high cam profile, the car will not idle so at a minimum it needs to be actuated off idle. The stock cam timing maps on a 3.4 DME are different than a 3.6 as well, The 3.4 actuates the cam adjusters above 1300rpm to go to early timing, which is much earlier than the 3.6 wants it done. If you are not using the car on the street, the current setup I have using an aftermarket controller to control the variocam plus is the easiest and cheapest. The only issue with it is if you are using it as a street car and need to pass OBDII and visual inspection you will most likely have problems.

    My car is a 1999 996 C2, and I want to install a 3.6 or 3.8 engine. What is the easiest (and right now cheapest) solution?

    What kind of "piggybag" wiring is needed to get the 3.6 (or 3.8) engine working with 1999 DME? I suppose the main problem is the variocam plus???

    I´m not too worried about all the installation being cabable of Porsche PST/WIS diagnosis, but everything should work, except cruise control.

    How should the old DME be programmed (I mean the fuel maps)?

    or would it be easier to find a newer version of the DME (7.2 I suppose)?

    I have done a 3.2s conversion into a 1997 2.5 boxster in the past. It is the same installation process as a 2.7.

    It is easily done but u do need a few things. do you already have the 2.7 engine?

    are you still interested in selling the dead 2.5 boxster as it is?

    Yes, I might sell the 2.5 engine. It runs perfectly, with compression in all cylinders, but was burning oil. No idea why. The mechanics said it might be the valve seal in cylinder number 4, but I decided to make the 3.4 conversion.... and now considering to purchase the 996 cabrio.

    Make me an offer for the 2.5 engine, if you are interested....

  6. You may want to consider a 996 3.4L instead. It is a nearly direct replacement for your 2.5 so it may be cheaper in labor costs and mods. It will also add about 100hp to your car. If you need a new motor, why not a badazzz one?

    there's no point in going from 2.5 to 2.7. you'd be better off selling your car and buying a 2.7L boxster, IMHO.

    I got the 3.4 engine already waiting for the installation, but also found a 996 cabrio very, very cheap, so my project is changing completely.

    As I want to sell the boxter and found this 2.7 engine, again very cheap, the idea would be installing this engine to the boxter and sell the car.

    So what modifications are needed for the 2.7 one?

    UUps, forgot to mention that the 996 I found is sold with broken engine...

    I know they are specially made for them, but does somebody have these "GT3 RS" letters scanned in their computer?

  9. Since there is no loss of coolant, and no surge in the header tank with the cap off, I suspect that it's not coolant, but oil related.

    To be very sure of this get to the exhaust outlet, while a friend revs to the magical 4.5K ( but only do this when the car if fully warmed up).

    Determine if the cloud coming from the exhaust is water vapour of or oil. Your hand will tell you if is vapour, and you nose will tell you if it is oil burning as smoke.

    If it is smoke all is not necessarily lost just yet!

    Is the car possibly overfull of oil ? It does happen, and will manifest itself as smoke burn-off while driving hard.

    If it was seriously overfilled it could have created a few problems by finding it's way into a few areas where it shouldn't be.

    It could also be a dodgy oil seperator.

    It could also be a malfuntion in the breather system for the crankcase, which is allowing the air intake/induction to the inlet manifold(s) to suck up oil from the crankcase at higher revs.

    A visit to your nearest tech, be he (or she) (have to be careful not to offend) official or indy, would be recommended, and there might even be a firendly guru close by, (or not so close by), to whom a visit would be well worthwhile.

    There's only so much one can suggest from a different continent, over the internet, while a 'look see' might come up with something very evident.

    In the meantime don't go pulling out motors just yet.

  10. Thanks for the suggestion. I have looked at the hardware store, however it is hard to find the graphite grey color/tone. Thanks for the replay.

    Don´t use the "normal" paints from hardware stores. They are not intented for plastics and will either peel away, or harm the plastic itself by drying it out.

    Where are you located? There are many specialized interior repair shops around, who can mix the exacts color for your car, and have paints specially formulated for plastics/leather.

  12. I added this wing because I like the look of it on the Cayman. I'm not about bling; just think it updates the look on the car. BTW, I get alot of compliments and our Chicago National Concours judge/champion liked it so much, he ordered one.

    So, is it aftermarket, or cayman one? How much did it cost?

  13. The '99 996 and boxster used the same DME just programmed differently.

    If you use your DME you will need to have it configured for the 996 engine. Pretty standard, remove it and ship it to someone to do this.

    If you use the 996 DME you will have to have it matched to the driveblock computer in your car or it won't function. I am guessing this is a worldwide feature of the cars and not a north america specific thing. I think this can be done with a PST2. If the cars in Spain don't have driveblock then you could just swap in a non egas 3.4L DME.

    I found a 996 DME, part 996 618 605 00.

    Does this fit for the 3.4 conversion?

    If I bring it to Porsche dealer to configure the driveblock, it will cost me total about $200, not $1000, apart that there´s nobody in Spain who seems to do the conversion on y standard Boxter DME.
