  1. Being a PCA member for over 35 years I have to remember to stifle the urge to wave at Porsches' when I am not in my 997, but in my SUV. Some of you guys probably think I am NUT'S if I forget and wave or blink, from the Lexus.... I do agree, however, that the old tradition is celebrated more by the pre-watercooled crowd!! Leaving Air cooled was a big step, HOWEVER, I ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  2. After 35 yearts in PCA and This being my 4th 911, I understand your comments. In the 70's through the 90's there was a lot more acknowledgement from owners on the road. This was before the cars became the darlings of the idle rich. There are a lot of us "old timers" who still wave or blink, assuming we have enough time, and if you don't get a response, screw them! I will continue to acknowledge other 911's (and maybe Boxters & Caymans) not so sure about SUV's! Hope to wave at you soon! Larry
  3. Here are pics of my adaptation of kkfor3's switch & Dension i-pod install http://www.flickr.com/photos/33889996@N00/?saved=1
  4. I have attached a picture from before cleaning up the installation. In this picture, the cables still need to be organized and the front trunk plastic covers need to be reinstalled. I connected the Gateway 500 by tapping into the connectors going into the back of the NAV drive. The optical connection was very easy - the instructions in the Gateway 500 were clear and all required parts (couplers, optical cables, etc.) were included. It entailed unplugging the optical connector from the back of the DVD drive and unfastening one of the optical cables from the connector followed by inserting one of the included optical cables back into the connector. Basically, the cable that was unplugged from the DVD drive goes into the Gateway 500, and the new cable goes between the Gateway 500 and the DVD drive connector. If your car doesn't have a DVD drive, you will need to perform this procedure on some other MOST component (head unit, amplifier, etc.). The DVD drive was convenient because it is very accessible. The amplifier is hard to reach with the optical connections hiding behind the speaker wires, and the head unit requires removal from the center console. The only other thing to connect is power. You will need to find some location to connect the included power cable to get +12V and GND. I soldered the power wires onto the power connector pins the DVD drive. I just had my gateway installed. Wanted all cables into glove box. Unit was mounted behind glove box. Tapped into PCM head, first out. Required PIWIS reprogramming. Works great. My 06 S has Nav and Bose. Installer recommendation on request! http://www.flickr.com/photos/33889996@N00/?saved=1
  5. " I think I can post pics of my switch if you want, I replaced the round cig. snuff-out thing at the front of the ashtray with the switch and it looks factory to me, and disappears if you close the ashtray door." Please post a picture if you can! Thanks!
  6. I prefer the Dension unit check http://enfigcarstereo.com/shopsite_sc/stor..._GW5RMY0D1.html http://enfigcarstereo.com/shopsite_sc/stor...B_GW_500_P.html
  7. Actually porsche says 1 year or 20,000 miles! Check oil before each startup, when cold just takes 5 seconds!!
  8. 996 had a mod for the relay, if you search old posts. 997 I am in the process of wiring a switch and 12 volt line directly to the solenoid for on/off control!
  9. I have about 12000 miles now and average 1 quart every 4000 miles now, Did my own oil change at 7000 miles and plan on every 7K or so! I have an 06 2S.
  10. I am installing PSe in my 997S. I intend to direct wire a switch with 12volt line to the solenoid. The regular replacement switch is a module. I need one of these to play with to see if I can add another basic switch to this module. I don't know if there is enough room, because of the circuit board. Many people without sport chrono have had to buy a new switch module with the tailpipe switch. I would like to try on one of the older, now unused switches first, before I kick out $60+ for a new one. I will document if this works!! One way or the other I'm going to add a simple on/off switch!! DECIDED TO TRY A RELAY AND CABRIO TOP SWITCH IN CONSOLE!!
  11. What is the voltage to the PSE solenoid to activate it.. Since it comes from the DME I wonder if it's still 12 Volts. It seems to work very easily with a 9volt battery. I intend to direct wire a switch from an ignition fused source to the solenoid for direct Off/On without the DME interruption and I don't want to burn it out. If I get the info and it works I will post!!
  12. where did you tap into MOST line. Did you just unplug the nav plug and splice there? Did you have to remove the NAV unit to gain access? Looks great!! I see where 12 volt unswitched is necessary! I will have to check the extra CD player plug for power and ground. Don't know if I can wait for group buy!!!
  13. It (RemoteKey) opens or closes both windows, gives one touch up on passenger side, trunk button delay and a host of other options, including beep on locking and unlocking. Well worth the bucks!!! comfort setting redo from dealer only gives drivers window up or down!
  14. How difficult was the basic install, just plug and play from trunk or did you have to remove the PCM to hook up the optical cables? I am not talking about the i-pod cord to the glovebox! Thanks, larry T
  15. Take emblem to a body shop and ask if they have any adheasive to reglue it on!!
  16. Now that the temp. in the North East has dipped below freezing I recently noticed that a cold light breeze seems to come in by my right hip near the seat belt buckle and the entire console is very cold. This is most noticable after the car is warm inside and at speed. Just holding my hand between the seat and the console you can feel the cold air. Anyone else notice this? Dealer says air rushing through the shift tunnel, esentially normal!
  17. CD Text relates to a novelty feature that music CD's contain the details of the track on-disc negating the need to input album/track names each time. Its not connected to the MP3 system which itself uses a different system for displaying the name information. To get the track-specific information up on-screen it will depend on the interconnecting equipement you use. In this case with the Dension, i believe it will. Regards Popolou Some Radio stations are capable of generating text also if you scan stations and have the RDS or other text functions turned on they should show if broadcasting the info
  18. http://moweraxle.com/ tow hook licence plate mount. I keep one in the trunk with plate on it so far I haven't been stopped, can put it on in less than 5 minutes.
  19. I bought my 06 S for the Adaptives , sport shift and sport chrono +. I am 5'6" 150 and go back and forth to Mass. from NJ every other week. The Seats are very comfortable. My wife is 5'2" amd small she also finds them very comfortable. Take a test drive, adjustments are infinite, practically impossible to not be comfortable. Worth every penny, IMHO!
