  1. Help,

I know this is taking the forum over but I have just purchased a Denson Gateway 500 and want to know what is the best source of wiring/connecting the unit. Should I link into the CRM sat nav dvd unit or should I use the MOST ring for the CD multi changer (I do not have the multi changer unit fitted). If I were to use the multi changer wiring which I believe is built into all cars including the MOST ring where is the wiring hidden on at RHD car. I don't want to start stripping the front end! The car is a 997tt and finally any links/pictures would help.

    Thanks

Not sure about RHD. Here is where I put my unit under glovebox! Easier to put in trunk, tap into Bose or Nav. but i-pod wire run inside is a little difficult and Aux USB off/on switch is in trunk.

    I have an 06 997S

  2. Performance Products shows a cold air upgrade for 997 and 997S in their recent catalog. They claim 11.8 HP and "significant" torque upgrade. All for only $225 and 20 min install. Could this be true?? Has anyone tried it?

This has been discussed before and for $12 you can get the Home Depot rubber elbow, (if you can still find it) which works just as well. Not as elegant, but Cheaper and just as effective. Check other forums if not on here!!

  3. Last week I traded my '02 Boxster for an '02 911 Carrera. Sadly, I didn't test the drink holders in the 911 before I bought it. My first trip to Starbuck's was disappointing.

    07-16-2007_100_2243.JPG

As you can see in the picture, the venti drink leans badly in the drink holder. When I'm alone, it's not an issue because I can use the outer drink ring. When my wife is with me, it's an issue.

Has anyone solved this problem? Have the holders improved since '02 such that I could just buy a new unit and swap it out?

Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

    Thanks.

I use a Dunkin Donuts cup, Sorry Am in bed and not running to take a Picture now, constriction on bottom 1/3 and widens on top. very good fit!

  4. That is interesting.... give us a review when you have the time.

Partial update: audio and charging works perfectly with the Nav-TV cable, with interface on the Porsche PCM head unit. I had previously had my Porsche dealer install the Nav-TV unit under the passenger seat with the iPod cable terminating into the arm rest storage area (since I didn't need/want the iPod visible since all the functionality I wanted was available on the PCM head unit).

However, with the iPhone, I DO want it within easy reach, since I need to be able to answer the phone, quickly query Google Maps, for the nearest drug store, for example, manage calls, read SMS messages, etc.

I also have the Jawbone bluetooth noise cancelling headset, so I'm good with the iPhone call audio going through the car's Bose audio system (I hope I don't get feedback, but with the powerful noise cancelling cabilities of the Jawbone headset, I'm hopeful this won't be the case).

    Sooooo....

I needed to extend the iPod cable out of the armrest about another 2 feet, to the side of the PCM, where I figure I want it mounted, and needed a mount to firmly hold the iPhone, but in an accesibble, but unobtrusive location, perhaps adjacent the PCM itself, to the right, WITHOUT drilling, damaging or defacing the vehicle itself.

    So I found and ordered

    1) This 2FT iPod doc extender cable: http://www.cablejive.com/extendercable.html,

    2) This iPhone-specific swivel holder mount: Padded Adjustable iPod Holder with Tilt Swivel, and

    3) This Porsche 911-specific iPod vehicle mount: ProClip Angled Vehicle Mount

I'll post back in a week or so after I've got these additions added with a fuller review, including the overall performance of the solution with the phone call audio routing through the car audio, auto-muting on phone call, and the Jawbone/car audio setup plus some photos of this (hopefully) elegant and understated solution.

    Damon

    Let me get this right:

    1. you can hear the phone calls through the cars audio system, but, because there is no external mike you need to use the Jawbone to talk?

    2. What about voice dial?

  5. I will be installing the Dension Bluetooth adapter into my Dension 500 unit. Where can you easily access the mute wire to the PCM, and how do you identify same?

Also can you access the built in Mic if you don't have the factory Phone module, and if so where?

    Larry,

What did the Dension Bluetooth option cost? Let me know how well it works, and were you able to use the existing factory microphone.

    Thanks,

    -Bob

Looks like no to the mute and no to the mike so far!

Module is $99 from bumperplugs.com, ck the site.

I haven't gotten the unit yet!!

  6. I'm planning on installing a laser jammer (probably Blinder M20) for the front only. Since I have a laser detector in my Escort, I don't need to hear the alerts from the jammer, I just need it to jam, so I won't have to bring any wires into the passenger compartment. This should make the install a fair amount easier. What I need however is a source of power under the bonnet that is switched with the ignition. Can anyone help me locate one?

I couldn't find any on a 987, ended up bringing one from the fuse box through to the front.

if you have a 997, you can use the CD player wiring harness located on the passenger side, under the carpet (where the CD player would go or is mounted) Most all of the Dennison Ipod users have tapped into the switched power wire and ground. 12V switched = red/green. See pic

    power.jpg

Thanks Bob, that's exactly what I was looking for!

Not sure that is switched with ignition, Dension unit requires unswitched for the MOST connection!!

  7. Even with a 3rd iPod (brand new 30GB video), the same flakiness appeared.

Failing new information, I'll likely try the earlier firmware version and check the behavior.

The Rennteam forum didn't have any directly related posts that I could find, so anyone's input here is appreciated!

Both my 4gig ist. gen Nano's work fine, using Firmware V 1.00. click wheel works fine. I have no complaints!

  8. In case someone has seen this and knows of a resolution, here's my issue (I am also asking an answer of Dension, too):

Vehicle is a 2006 911, with PCM and Navigation DVD drive. The GW500 was installed and connected up. The PCM recognized and controls audio from the USB and Aux. ports, but both iPods I connected (4GB Nano and 30GB Video) were not able to be recognized through to the PCM. There was no control or audio. On the iPod screen, a big Check mark and "OK to Disconnect" was visible, but this just kept cycling/flashing over and over with the iPod paused. I do think it was charging, though.

Anyone encountered this and no of the resolution? I did upgrade the firmware to the latest version at Dension's site. Again, the Aux. audio and USB inputs worked fine...really sounded great.

    Thanks for any help!

    Karl

    Try updating i-pod software!

  9. I've finished the retofit and love the results. The X51 airbox is a direct drop in replacement for the stock airbox but there are a few work arounds required. First, you have to be comfortable cutting a hole in the lower metal portion of your decklid. Follow the template and be careful and it's not a problem. A good dremel tool is helpful. It will take some time to deburr the cut and fit the factory seal to the decklid properly but once done it looks stock. Just above the lower metal deck is a black plastic deck which is countored for the cutout. Once you make this cut the second air inlet breaths freely to the outside air. Beyond this the only issue is the inlet duct between the new airbox and the stock inlet manifold. I purchased a good quality silicone transition that acts as a spacer between the x-51 inlet hose and the stock manifold. Once trimmed and glued with a good high temp silicon it fits up perfect to the stock manifold/ Stock manifold has an OD of 3.25 inches. X-51 inlet hose has an ID of roughly 3.75 inches. Buy a silicone hose with roughly .25 inch walls and an ID of 3.25 inches and you have it made. It's a beautiful airbox and the engine breaths much better at higher RPM. Sound is a little louder and I find the engine is a little rougher until fully warmed up. (lot's more cold air coming in than stock)

Whats the price for the airbox? Is the airbox compatible to the to a 997 C2 also?

    Pictures please?

First post said 3.8ltr engine-(S) and price! Final pictures would be nice!

  10. Nothing special that I can see - 17 ftlbs.

    Thanks

So how did the install go? Your impressions of the X51 headers in terms of performance? Do you have high flow cats and aftermarket mufflers as well?

Install was quite easy except for one bolt on rt header which was hard to line up because of a hose and a couple of exhaust nuts that were a little tricky to get a socket on! Took me about 2 hrs!

Only change so far is a bit throatier tone with the PSE. Standard Cats, no noticeable performance change, nor did I expect any

I am hoping for a little better gas mileage, probably in vain. System sounds great and headers can't hurt.

Haven't been able to go back to MA. yet for a long distance test!!

  11. I am creating a mounting bracket for the User Interface Module (UIM) of the Motorola IHF1000 to use in the 997 911, and 987 Boxster and Cayman. I finished installation of a prototype this past weekend in a 997, and I think it went well. I will use this bracket in my support of dealer and private party handsfree system installations.

I figure this same bracket could be used to mount a number of devices - Valentine 1 remote control panel, Satellite Radio controller, other handsfree controller, etc.

Please have a look at the pictures below, and I would appreciate your feedback on the appeal of the bracket. The final version would be from sheet aluminum, and black anodized for an excellent appearance. The bracket fastens behind the small triangular trim piece with a couple of small screws (which would be included).

Some questions I have that I would appreciate feedback on:

    - Would leaving it flat, for the buyer to bend to their needs, be ok?

    - or, should it be pre-bent (different bends required for 997 vs. 986, BTW)?

    - what price would be OK (assume USPS shipping within the US is included)? - ex: pro-f!t brackets are priced from ~$16 and higher online, plus shipping

    - should the panel be larger or smaller? or should there be a large panel, and small panel version?

    Thanks for your input.

Hard to determine size, nothing to scale against in picture!! Looks good though!

  12. I've switched to the wave from the flash 'cuz I read the current lighting doesn't like brief on state. Also wasn't getting many responses. Not many waves either. Female Box driver just recently blew me off as I pulled from my driveway onto NC 50.

I also wave or thumbs up old cars like that MGA a coupla days ago. They get it. 914-4 owners even buy kits to flash their fogs.

I think putting the word out on this old tradition is a great idea.

Being a PCA member for over 35 years I have to remember to stifle the urge to wave at Porsches' when I am not in my 997, but in my SUV. Some of you guys probably think I am NUT'S if I forget and wave or blink, from the Lexus....

I do agree, however, that the old tradition is celebrated more by the pre-watercooled crowd!!

Leaving Air cooled was a big step, HOWEVER, I ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
