  1. Moving over from 6Speed (probably for good), I am in for one set, Depending on quality possibly 2. Thanks for picking this up again. you are one patient man.

This thread is here to replace the one that was on 6SpeedOnline but deleted because it was considered a "Group Buy".

The whole synopsis is described here: http://www.comtech.ws/scripts/GroupBuy.dll/home but here is a quick recap...

The initial thread was created to show vendors the interest in a product for which no vendor was willing to commit to production because vendors thought there would be no profit in it. I had approached CarGym and asked what kind of numbers would be required to make the project profitable for them. I expected that other vendors would require the same participation to beat their bottom line as well.

Originally, CarGym stated that they needed 250 orders at $600 each before they would consider going forward. (Apparently the cost for producing the mould is upwards of $120K.) After the great response on 6SO, they said they would start development immediately. So, in Jan 2013 they started working on the project. They are currently developing the drawings. They said that they expect about 6 months from start to production.

I have been maintaining a list of members who are committed to the purchase when the product is available. This list should identify the first people to receive the LEDs before they are available to the general public. The list is available at the link specified at the start of this thread. If you want to be included in the list, please state you commitment here and I will add you to the list. Please don't put your name in unless your are ready to pay $600 for a set. I will be evaluating the prototypes and detailing product reviews as they become available. No one will be happy if the quality isn't there, so I will be very critical of the first products to make sure they will meet or exceed OEM quality.

  2. thanks. yes I mean that the instructions for the updated maps tell you that you must be running PCM2 firmware Version 3.0 and tell you how to check, it, "Press map and (something else which now escapes me) to determine version" and you must be running version 3.0 for the system to work with the updated maps. I checked and I am running that version of the software so I am ready to run the upgrade maps for my section of the country, and was not sure if I needed to do something else other than just putting in the appropriate CD for my section of the country.

  3. This system uses the CD system and I got the and one and only update from Porsche numbered 000.044.901.21. I am running the upgraded 3.0 system as required. What I do not know is whether I just can update the system by running the appropriate CD for my geographical area. I am in Florida so I am using CD #4 (it comes with 7 or 8 CDs including Brazil). I have read in this forum that it is as simple as just running the CD and that is it. Yes I also know that there are much better portable systems out there, but this is not about Navigagtion, but having the most complete Porsche (since I may keep it for years). thks

  4. Hello, I am a new Porsche owner (2005 911 TT S Cab, Cobalt blue with 25+k miles), and was looking for tail light units (not the LED bulb replacements) which have built in LED, but the ones that I have seen in Ebay, even though they are listed for this model, only fit a 997 chassis upon inquiry. Does anyone have any suggestions? The next question is prety embarrassing because I consider myself a careful owner and have read all manuals of all cars I own, but I just read the owner's manuals (the Turbo manual and the PCM stand alone manual), even one for a 911 Carrera, and they either are silent (or of course I have missed it), or refer me to the trunk compartment to load the navigation DVD which came with the car (one for the whole US and I am in South Florida?) but I cannot find a drive/reader except the one in the PCM itself which does not appear to work. Any comments? Do I have to dig in the trunk trimmings till I find it? Finally, is there any whay, other than changing the PCM factory unit (which I do not want to do since I try to keep all of my cars factory), to install an IPOD and/or a phone? In the Ferrari 360 if you disable the CD changer, you can connect an IPOD adapter and play the IPOD through the CD changer connection of the Becker radio. No phone. Thanks for the help, great forum by the way (I have been reading the postings before joining).
