  1. The non Bose sound system in my recently aquired 2009 997.2 C2S is pretty poor.  At a decent volume to hear the music (not overly loud or thumping) with the roof down I get vibration, distortion and low end "rattling" from both front and rear speakers.  When taking a phone call the results are the same.

Just how many speakers are installed in my car - are there any specific units (bass, tweeters) units to identify?

Could anybody share information about the way to access the speakers (how to remove panels etc) so I can first check if there is anything physically wrong with the equipment (loose, damage etc)

Then could anybody share experience in replacing the stock speakers with something more suitable.  I want to retain the head unit so would installing an amplifier in conjunction with new speakers help?

Any and all info is gratefully appreciated.

    Thanks

    Simon

  2. Just bought a C2S with 85k KMs in Dubai.  took it out this morning and the water temp gauge seemed to take an age before moving off the bottom stop (60) before settling at 90.  Ambient temp was about 21 Deg C.

Is this normal behavior for this car?  It seemed unusual for the water to take so long to register on the gauge.  Coolant level looks fine, no other indications.

    Thanks

  3. Finally SOLVED!

It was the GPS Antenna! I replaced the unit in the Rear Lid Spoiler, but nothing! So I proceed to apply the 1-4-8 code and VOILA!  :jump:    It worked!!!

    attachicon.gif01.jpg

So I guess that if you have NO Satellites and applied code 1-4-8 and still no Sats after check connections, then you got a bad GPS Antenna unit.

Finally if you install a new GPS antenna, then apply code 1-4-8 on the PCM unit to reset and PCM to recognize new GPS Antenna. Here are today's picture with finally NAVI Unit fully working. I still got the warning triangles on the SW versions, but at least I can use the NAVI now!

Thanks and hope this could help others....

Good to know - thank you.  Can you provide the part number for the antenna and the cost please

    Thanks, Simon

  4. My owner's manual says a D1 "low temperature" start-off relates to engine temperature rather than ambient temperature.  Mine is always that way as well.

Thanks - good to know it is not unusual - though I live in Dubai so engine temp is rarely "low".

I am visiting your way in late April - Virginia Beach - hope the wether will be fine there too.

    Thanks

  5. Hi, I understand that starting in D1 would happen when PSM is off and at low temperature.  What sort of temperature is considered low?

My 06 Cayenne has started in D1 for the last 3 mornings - outside temp was about 18DegC - 65DegF - so assume this is not a low temp.

What else would cause the car to start in D1?

    Thanks

  6. You might have a broken spring. I found mine hanging loose from the top hook, behind the rotor, with the bottom part shattered. They come in a kit, and I believe they're the same that vw, audi and even bmw sells. Takes a bit of effort to get it stretched so that it hooks properly at both ends, but it's doable with a pair of fine nosed pliers. Wear safety goggles, lots of tension on that little spring.

Ddo cars still have drum brakes?  I assumed they were only fitted to low spec, non performance models.

BobbyS - try cycling the parking brake on and off a few times it may need to find its point to hold.

    Cheers

  7. 06 Cayenne S - new to me 2 weeks ago.

Hi, Last 2 days I have seen some odd Sat Nav problems.

Yesterday I noticed the icon was off by a few hundred meters in one axis.  The road was being tracked in a straight line but I was passing roads that the map showed as being ahead.  Sometime later the map froze.

Searching the threads, I found the status and it showed 0GPS & 0D satellites.

Today I drove some 80 miles and on the return leg the status page started to update with a location and the coordinates updated as the car moved.  Then I saw 4 GPS and 2D - the icon moved to the right place on the map.  But only for a few seconds - the map froze.

The behavior continued during the journey - coordinates changing - no sats being shown and the icon not inthe righ place on the map.

When I got home I removed the spoiler and check the GPS AE - all secure - no loose connections - easy to get at - harder if you lose the screw in the double skin - thank goodness for magnetic tools.

I also pulled the PCM - no loose connections.

I have reset the PCM with 1, 4 & 8 & ejected the disk and cleaned it

    Questions:

1 is it one cable run from the GPS AE to the PCM - or is there a break point I might have a loose connection?

2 can the GPS AE be checked with a multimeter or the like (how does the connector come off - I could not remove it...)

3 Is there any other areas I can look or ideas some may have to try to troubleshoot further.

I think my next step is to repalce the AE as this seem the most likely culprit and the cheapest item to change.

    Thoughts anybody?

    Thanks

  8. Hi, just bought an 06 Cayenne S and very happy so far.  Car is in lovely condition but has a couple of niggling bits.

    1. Rear door window sun shade / blind will not retract.  Can anybody help with info how to remedy this?

    2. The steering wheel silver trim piece at the lower spoke is missing.  Previous owner said she asked Porsche who advise it was not available separately.  Does anybody have ideas where I may source one.

    Thanks for any help

  9. How can I identify if my 1998 Boxster head lights are LHD or RHD? The car originally is a LHD car imported to the UK. I do not know if the headlamps were changed or adjusted to work in the UK. I am shipping the car to France and before I have it MOT'd in France I need to check the headlamps so that I can avoid a failiure. Anybody know if their is a part no. or some way to idetify? You would not believe what a pain it is to sort things out in France!!!

Thanks Simon the link is very useful.

Hi I was hoping that somebody may be able to point to some physical indentifier on the lamp unit or a part No. Where can I find numbers for Boxster assembles?

Park the car on a straight road and turn on the lights. For a RHD car in UK it should light more of the pavement on the LHS of the car. For a LHD car intended to be driven on the other side of the road it would show more of the RHS of the car (all looking forward from inside the car).

Take a look at the pictures here: http://bbs.scoobynet.com/general-technical-10/871100-lhd-headlights.html

  11. Hi I currently own a 02 boxster and looking to change. A local option is a 996 C4 Cab, 01, 116k Kms. I have learnt much about the boxster over the past year thanks to this and othre forums.

Question - what do I look for in the 996 prior to purchase? What are the common failure points and symptoms?

    All advice gratefully accepted.

    Thanks

  12. 2001 Boxster S

Update: When I once again tried after a few days, I was able to get the top to open but I had to help it along as it sounded weak or something. So I got it opened and looked everything over and can't visibly see any issues. So I then closed the top. AND>>>> Now it won't open again. The motor just makes a think sound. In other words everything seems to work fine electrically and the motor runs, etc. I read elsewhere that the round plate on both sides revolves to cycle the top open/closed, can come off its sprockets/gears and get itself into the "wrong" spot or point in the cycle routine. But how do I determine that and set it right if that's the problem?

I had something similar, inside each of the transmissions is a plastic cog that transfers the drive from the cable to the gears to rotate the "v" bars. The passenger side on mine had gone. To identify which side was bad I removed the cable from one side of the motor and operated the switch while helping the roof back. The side that was good worked fine, the bad side was jerky. When I took the xmsn apart the plastic cog was split. Needed to replace the xmsn - could not find a new cog.

There are guides out there to sync the xmsn - simply to attach a drill to the cable at the motor end and ensure bothe v bars are in the same position.

    Hope this helps

  13. Hi, I got the Tip Red Caption some weeks ago, durametric did not show any codes so I had the transmission fluid and filter replaced. No captions for a while then over the past 2 days they popped up again.

Each was with a different style of driving - 60kph straight road - happened 3 times in sucession. Next day after a 120Km run I slowed to traffic at 30kph and it came on - on the run home sat at 135kph and it came on twice.

Each time there was no loss of performance the tip behaved the same as it always does. There are no signs of slipping or jerking.

The only thought I had is it may have started after the underside was washed with the pressure hose - might be a long shot but it is the only thing I can think of.

I checked both rear tyres - both at 36psi.

    Anybody any other thoughts?

    Mileage is 160k

    Thanks

    Simon

  14. Hi, I have been having trouble with my roof (02, 2.7 Boxster), eventually tracked it down to a split plastic cog ( see photo) in the RHS transmission gearing.

Can anybody help source one of these - anybody got an old transmission laying around they could dismantle and mail the part. I live in Dubai and would send the funds via paypal.

    Thanks

    Simon
