  1. Eric, Did you ever figure out what this piece was for? I also have a 1999 Carrera Cabriolet (C2), and earlier today when I was lowering the top I heard something break. When I looked back there, I found the same piece you described with the same part numbers lying on the carpet behind the rear seat. The plastic "arms" were broken in several places, and the little metal spring was lying separately. The top still opens and closes without any problems, so I'm not sure what it's for or how important (or unimportant) it is. I was searching the internet tonight looking for answers and came across your post from last July. Just wondering if you've learned anytihng over the past year that you can share with me.
