  1. The adapter I made used an OBD2 socket, and a 19-pin plug. Using wiring diagrams from the Bosch EsiTronic system and the workshop manuals, I matched the diagnostic connections on the 19-pin plug to the appropriate pins on the OBD2 socket. IIRC there were connections for K-line, L-line, TD, Knock, 12v and Ground. Like I said, it worked on the PST2, so it should work with the PIWIS, I would have thought. I'll try to dig out my notes and post the diagrams over the weekend.

The adapter cable that comes with the PST2 goes the other end ie the PST end.

  2. Yes, if you have the proper cable it will work on the older cars too. Finding a proper cable may be the hard part...

PIWIS (1) actually includes both PST2 software and PIWIS software - so it uses PST2 software for the older cars and PIWIS for the newer cars.

The adapter cables for OBD2 to 19-pin are available from this Canadian company, although they are made in China: http://www.sensoluti...tx_commerce_pi1[mDepth]=2

I have the genuine Porsche cable with the 'round' plug for older cars.

I would need to connect my PST2 rather than my PIWIS though.

  3. I see you are London based. I am West London (Gerrards Cross). If you would like me to put the Porsche PIWIS on your car (Free) send me a PM as it may save you money and a visit to the dealer.

hi nick, that would be great. thank you very very much. Let me organise a time and i will PM you very soon. once again thank you. its amazing to find decent people put there. not many around. i will be in contact soon.

    You're most welcome

  4. On page 28 of the owners manual the process of using the ignition key inserted into the door lock to open (or close) the windows is described, but not all that well...

I have tried to get this to work but so far nothing, but maybe I misunderstood how this is supposed to work?

Is there a setting in the computer that has to be enabled by the dealer for this to function?

    Thanks!

Yes there is ... however from the 2005 model Porsche disabled this and indeed the remote control version.

You maybe able to get your dealer to re-enable this for you.

  5. The PIWIS software interface is the same for gen 1 and gen 2 997s. The PIWIS detects the type for PCM you have fitted to the car. FYI the late 2008/9 turbos (gen 1s) came with PCM3. However, the issue you will have is that all the coding options for the PCM3 require a dealer code (pin number) that has to be obtained from Germany which is unique to a VIN number and the PCM fitted to the car.. I know Porsche have made PCM3 available as an aftermarket kit for gen 2s but I am not sure they will provide the codes unless you have a gen 2.

So technically it is possible but in reality, currently it is not.

  6. I have an 07' C 4S Cab w/ Nav and looking to get updated map data. Is there anythiogn special I have to do "update" the system or can I just remove old Map DVD & replace with new & go?

    Thanks

If you have an 07 you should be OK. However the new Nav disc comes with same set of media update discs that came with the previous version so check out this link to be sure:

  7. How many stalks do you have and what are they for?

Search around for OBC retrofit. Because when we do it we remove the steering wheel and the stalk assembly, and replace it with a new unit that has the additional OBC stalk.

Have they made a more robust turn signal stalk mechanism yet? I'm on my second replacement on my 01, after the darn internal plastic tab broke off, effectively leaving the stalk non-canceling after turns. What a cheap unit they put in there.

I bet now you have your very own Porsche garage the chances of you breaking it again are zero :)

  8. Nick, turns out you had the right part number, many thanks! Here's a photo of the carpet shelf (with pre-cut holes for the Clubsport roll bar - 997.551.033.90.A10) I ordered from Suncoast Porsche. If anyone is planning a GT3 RS Clubsport roll bar installation I highly recommend you buy this part. I will save a lot of time and frustration.

Awesome result, glad it worked out for you.

It was news to me that US spec RS does not have plastic rear window and rear roll bars. In Europe you couldn´t order one without them. Just few days ago I installed the Porsche original front roll bars. Very nice and very heavy engineering so it really adds safety, but adds weight of course.

About the rear window, I have never ever noticed any vibration or anything with it. I might just be too slow.

Interesting experience and helpful feedback regarding the Lexan rear window - thank you. The US / North America spec GT3 RS comes equipped with a thin glass rear window only. The cost to replace the glass with the ROW spec Lexan plastic window is ~US$1,400 + installation for a 3KG weight savings. Most would consider the price too high to justify the weight savings. I have heard comments from some GT3 RS owners who have done the conversion that they experience rear window vibration noise at higher speeds when a side window is open. In North America only early production 2007 and no 2008 GT3 RS' came equipped with the stud plates welded to the floor of the tub used to install the front and rear roll bars. My RS (#2710) did not come with them.

DOT regulations forbid the use of Lexan windows and the fitment of 'Track' roll bars to a street vehicle imported into the US. Nothing to say the owner can't fit them afterward though. With regards to the window rattle, it was never designed to have the windows down at speed. Don't get me started on what I think about driving on a race track with the top up and windows down !!!!

  9. I bought a US launch car and imported it to Europe last year. From the dealer and Carfax report I was told that the car was bought back by Porsche because of a oil leak. The car got a new engine and they sold it again. For me this wasnt any problem since I got a engine with less miles.

So to my question. Who can I contact to get this information confirmed? I have tried contacting the seller but this dealer is not very helpfull.
