  1. Does anyone have the PCM Nav system fitted to a car without the OBC stalk fitted to their car.

My OPC reckons you have to have it enabled in the car otherwise it will not function, is this true???

Can anyone offer advice as at the moment I have a PCM fitted to my car that just doesn't want to work.

  2. Help!!!

I am thinking about replacing my existing third brake light with a clear or smoked LED unit from eBay. My car is Seal Grey with clear lenses all round, and I think it will look great with the rear brake light mod. Has anyone tried this, and is it easy to do? I have searched a few forums and Google, but I can't seem to find any step-by-step instructions.

I'm looking at one of these. Anything I should look out for when buying?

    Can anyone please help me?

    Thanks in advance,

    Garry :D

Well the price is $20 higher than the dealer! If I heard my parts guy he said $75 for a new one, $125 for the earlier models. If you already purchased one, did you get it installed?

So if it is a Porsche OEM part what is the part number ?

  3. 986.424.981.05.VRJ Shifter in Aluminum and Black Leather -- MSRP $496.96 (as of June 2006) -- I do not know if the horseshoe comes with that or not

996.424.980.22.8YR Handbrake in Aluminum and Black Leather -- MSRP $392.32 (as of June 2006)

Do I assume they also do a six speed shifter ?

    986.424.981.06.VRJ ???

  4. Just to add something that has been covered here before, as a reminder:

For Boxsters with the new instrument cluster, if there is no option in the Instrument Cluster Coding for “with On-board Computer” use the following procedure:

Do a Control Module Search from the Vehicle Type screen.

    Go to DME control unit.

    Go to Vehicle Data.

    Scroll down to Order Type.

Press the F7 key to edit.

Enter either 986310 for Boxster (2.7) or 986320 for Boxster S (3.2). (Use up/down/left/right arrow keys). Press F7 to confirm.

Go back to the Vehicle Type screen and do a full Control Module Search. (Essential).

Go to Instrument Cluster, go to Coding and recode for “with On-board Computer” and press the F8 key to save.

And then do you have to search again for the DME and enable the OBC there?

  5. You can't code/change anything unless the model code is the DME.

You need the proper fiber optic cable(s) depending on your options.

(This is for a LHD MY04 Boxster - other years/models may vary)

I do not know if having OBC on makes any difference. It is simple enough to do - in two places - DME and instrument cluster.

I think the fiber cable is good as they managed to enable the unit, the standard one in the car should work ie radio/PCM with amp not cd changer and not telephone. The OBC enable I would like them to do anyhow and this maybe it.

The car is back to the dealer on wednesday so we shall see. The good news is that because I bought the unit from a dealer it is covered by a warranty.

    Thanks Loren

  6. Did they activate navigation in the instrument cluster?

Did you get the right fiber optic cables for your cars previous configuration?

For the speakers they must not have tested the MOST configuration or they would have noticed the rear speakers were missing?

Sounds like they need to walk back through all of the MOST devices.

Does the activation of NAV in the the instrument cluster require the use of the 986320 code? (I do not have the trip hack fitted to this car yet)

The fiber optic cables were the same ones from the cdr-23

I'm not sure as to the rear speakers but I will print this and any other post.

My only other thought does the trip computer functionality have to be enabled?

  7. I have just installed the OEM Porsche PCM Kit into my 2004S Boxster S and tried to have the system intialised at an OPC. I now have the following issues:

    1. The GPS locks on and I get 3D-GPS indicated it reads the map but cannot work a route. The guy at the OPC says the is a problem with the CAN line. I see the symtoms as no trip data (fuel consumption etc is fed to the PCM). The OS is version 3 I have the latest maps but no joy. I do not have the OBC stalk fitted to the car though. Is there something he is missing as I thought you didn't need the OBC to use the PCM.

    2. The audio configuration shows front speakers only ie balance onlyand no fader. I have rear speakers fitted. The technical can't find anywhere to let the system know I have the rear speakers fitted.

    Can you help guys?? :(

  8. Read through the posts here about coolant tanks and caps. If your coolant tank cap ends in 00 (instead of 01) then it needs to be replaced. Is the coolant level going down? Do you see any leaks under the car on hoses etc. ?

Before you replace the air pump check the simple stuff - can you hear it run when you start the car? (it sounds a little like a vacuum cleaner to me), check the fuse, check the relay relay, and make it is still plugged in. US MSRP for the air pump is $1200.81.

You can drive the car if the CEL is solid. If the CEl is flashing then you are doing damage to the TWC (three way catalytic convertors) and the car should not be driven.

Was there a TSB for the cap replacement?

  9. Going back to the original post.....if the battery had been disconnected the engine would lose the throttle placement settings and the octane rating of the fuel. So once you restarted the car before it had learnt these the engine would misfire. The correct way after reconnecting the battery is to turn the iginition on without starting the car for about a minute. After this the car should be run at idle until the revs settle.
