  1. Are the hood/trunk lids fitted to the 987 compatible with the 986?

I know on the 987 they replaced the steel versions with aluminium but are they the same size and have similar mounting? If so what are the part numbers as I am thinking of swapping these to save weight. (one of many reductions).

  2. Hi there

Just bought a 997 4S convertible without navigation. I'm thinking about adding nav and know that Porsche sells komplete kits. Does anyone know the costs and whether installation is a DIY thing or not? I restore classic Porsche and have some knowledge about electronics.

Thanks for your appreciated help and tips,

    Mike

    Ok.....sitting down....???

The PCM System kit is $4,985, with installation it is $ 5,855.

  3. I'm have problems finding an OPC on the East coast willing to do the OBC and Cruise Control enabling using either the PST2 or PIWIS.

Is there anyone out there who knows of a friendly OPC or other garage who has done this for them in either CT or NY preferably near Greenwich or Newhaven????

  4. ...same follow-up from NY Bob, its hard to find an OPC just across the border in CT, tried a couple and also one in NY state (pepeporsche). So the hold up on starting the project for me is getting a local dealer to do the OBC and Cruise enable first. Anyone from NY or CT state know of a dealer who will do this??

  5. On an earlier post I had asked about ways to improve my 987's proformance. I got some good feedback on taking a driving school course to learn how to maximize my abilities in the car allowing me to push it to it's limits. Has anyone done this? What were your expieriences? I am located in the Roseville, CA area and do not no where to start looking. What do all you pros out there suggest?

This is the best place to go: The SCCA High Performance Driving School at Thunderhill in Willows. A pretty easy drive for you from Roseville. The price is about as good as it gets, and you get a full day of lapping sessions with an instructor riding with you the whole time. Looks like there is a class on June 6 with space open. Having said that, you should check to see if they'll accept the Boxster. They did before, but I see they have new language regarding restrictions on convertibles.

My recommendation is the Porsche Driving School in Leipzig, two days with the best Porsche test drivers on an FIA Track. Fantastic and I am going back fore sure!!!

  6. 22000 Boxster 5 sp.

The pollen filter was easy to replace, strange that the plastic clip that is molded in the base does not really clip to the top of the filter, it's about 1/4" too high in the latched position. No mention of this on the manual. Lauren's pics as god as they are do not clarify this. The filter is held in its base only by the foam edges.

At the same location there was a very neat wire tied in a bundle with zip ties, a lot of wire, 5' or 6' it looked factory with cloth tape, it origintes from behind the battery, part of a battery tender system? Or a factory connection to keep the car powered up while replacing the battery?

Very strange indeed, I have one there too....So what is it?

  7. I am currently looking at buying the rear speakers myself but am having difficulty finding out if they can be wired directly to the head unit (CDR23, 2003 Boxter S, standard dash speakers only, No amp) or moreso, if the rear outputs of the CDR23 are live/active. I read that if you have the sound pack upgrade with amp ten the rear CDR23 outputs are dead but don't know if this is true without amp (becker 6611 model I read). Becker refuse to advise and porsche dealer hasn't a clue! Don't want to order the kit and then be unable to use it.

    Any help appreciated.

    Cheers, Stales

Email this guy, he should be able to help you:

  8. I have recently brought the speaker upgrade kit (from PNP) and have done the following:

Mounted the speakers routed the cable to the back of the radio

Now I have the cable to route from here, through the firewall etc.

But how the hell does this route with removing more than just the radio?

Help on routing and photos would be a great help

  9. Hi there... heres the story. Have a 98 MY with 30K miles.. Been having horn prob so last week i attempted to fix the horn. Disconnected batt but was unable to break lose bolts. Hooked battery back up and the car would start but bogged really bad. Had it towed into the shop. BTW... no CEL at this point. There was a CEL prior to disconnecting batt and IIRC it was P1128. Anyhow, garage calls me and tells me the car run fine after warming up and its not throwing any codes.. He ends up replacing some temp sensor and tells me one of my cats ir rattling pretty bad. Says its not the heat shield. I go to pick up car and it starts fine but does misfire and sound kinda bad for first several minutes.. On way home CEL comes back on. I take it to Advanced to get ODB done.. Its shows P1128, P1130 and pending code P0130 (o2 sensor circuit malfunction bank1 sensor 3. I went home and fixed the horn since i had the garage get me the part. Im gonna take it back in but do you think it could be as simple as a bad 02 sensor causing the cold start prob and it doesnt seem to have the responsiveness it did b4. Any thoughts and thanks a ton for ANY feedback..

    Brian

OK when you disconnect the battery the engine loses the throttle placement settings and the octane rating of the fuel. So once you restarted the car before it had learnt these the engine would misfire. The correct way after reconnecting the battery is to turn the iginition on without starting the car for about a minute. After this the car should be run at idle until the revs settle. The fault codes are also lost when you disconnect the battery. However, there is problaly an underlying problem, hence the codes coming on. As for the other problems I'm sure someone else will chip in soon.

  10. New to the board. Great information in here too.

When looking at the PNP rear speakers kit it seems as if the speaker quality is better then the Porsche rear speakers kit. Has any one heard any of these and is there a difference in sound quality? I recently purchase the PNP and should be getting them in a week. Anyone tried to install them or did you have professional installation. How do they hook up to the radio or AMP?

Just received my kit from PNP today, fantastic looking speakers and service. Will let you know about the installation and sound soon.

  11. I have Harvey's kit in my car. It does what it's supposed to do and I have no complaints about the quality, but you just don't get a whole lot out of a few small speakers in the back no matter what you do. If I were doing it over I'd just have a local shop fit something in there and either have them make cloth grills or I'd try to find Porsche grills (a Porsche graveyard somewhere?)

Do you have a link to his website?

  12. Are you talking about the A/C Heater controls? on a US/Canada car?

If so, the readout in the A/C controls can only be changed with a PST2 (or PIWIS) tester.

If you are talking about the instrument cluster (on a US/Canada car) it can not be done.

    Loren,

I want to get my dealer to do the switch from Fahrenhuit to Celsius on the AC/Heater control. Can you please provide instruction for the PST2 process. He didn't know how to do it. I have an 03 Boxster S.

    Thx

    Have you tried this?

Press and hold the recirculation button. Then press the temperature up ("+") button to switch between degrees Celsius & Fahrenheit on the Climate Control Temperature and Instrument Panel Outside Temperature displays.

Loren, I have also tried this method with no success (2004 Boxster S) so if you know the PST or PIWIS sequence that would be great. Thanks in advance.

  13. The TSB has the part number for the kit. The switch is not included.

Thanks and I see the TSB, do you know how much an OPC is likely to charge for the work?

I saw in a previous discusion there are two type of switch, the TSB mentions one, but can you confirm the part number for the LHD switch?
