  1. I just shipped my US spec 997.1 c to europe. The dealer fitted the Euro spec homelink control unit and then had to program the car to read in the new hardware. Total cost was about $520 but i could not have done it myself becasue you need the dealer to connect up the programming box to re-programme the car to read the new hardware. Anyway, it works fine.

Where did you ship the car to?

  2. I installed cayenne XM recently into my 2006 Carrera and it works great. I have no bose or CD player. In this setup you want just the straight fiber optic cable NOT the Y shaped one.Dealer had to activate. I added a power amp and 6 inch narrow profile kicker sub woofer in a custom enclosure on shelf behind rear seats. I think the system sounds better thante factory bose. Can anyone see the artist name on the PCM screen? It seems only the name of the station comes up.

I had the same question you did about the Cayenne Sirius system I retrofitted. It appears your XM works the same way...in that the song info only appears on the Info/RadioText screen. I verified on the Cayenne boards that this is how it works (i.e. they never see the song info scroll...the cluster and the PCM always just display the station name when on the "normal"/Main screen)

Yep mine is the same, Station Info only unless you go to the INFO page and lock at the Radio Text.

  3. North America navigation package on PCM3 has been changed to European. I assume it could be changed to any region. The process involves ordering from Porsche a DVD (not given to customer) (price Euro380 + VAT) which erases previous map data and installs new one (dont know if it is on the same DVD). I asked but was not given either part number or disk itself. My PCM now also has new regional code for Europe.

Rumor has it new firmware upgrade for PCM3's is coming out in April

Did you import a US car into Europe then ?

  4. The clones are on ebay :) Typically they run 6-7k and are built on IBM laptops.

I'm working on buying a KTS from Bosch that looks just like the PIWIS but does not ship with the Porsche software. It ships with Mercedes/BMW/Audi/VW on it, but no Porsche :( I believe the Porsche software can be installed on it :)

HUm.. looks a lot like a PIWIS  but it is GREEN (retina burning Bosch Green) and oh, by the way, it is about 10k less than the Porsche PIWIS :)

    B

It can be done on the unit you show.

  5. I bought a PCM 2.1 on Ebay.

It installed easily and powered right up, looking very good. Went to dealer for code activation, we got trouble...

It seems my 2007 GT3 with base sound CDR-24 unit has a small built in amp. The PCM does not. Tech says adding an amp is a big ($) job. Lots of wiring harness work.

Anybody have any experiences or solutions?

My lovely PCM maybe up for sale rather quickly if We cannot solve this one.

Tech is going to try Porsche engineers for ideas.

    Disappointed DIY guy.

Pics below show back of my base CDR-24 aluminum dots are heat sink for small amp. My PCM does not have this.

Thanks for any insights to my problem.

To better understand your problem it would be useful if you could find the part number written on the unit.

  6. Hi,

I doubt the MY2009 Boxster's LED Tail Lamps fit onto the earlier 987s.. Is there anyone who can confirm this? Also is there any aftermarket LED Tail Lamps that fits the earlier 987s if the new LED lamps doesn't fit? Will the system be affected if such lamps are fitted?

Likewise for the front Headlamps.. pretty much different in shape for the front as well? Maybe changing the whole bumper to fit the new lamps?

You are correct, the new lamp units will require the new bumpers to fit. The may also be differences in the wiring and mounting trays.

  7. I have a 2006 C2S with Bose, 6-CD Changer and Nav and also had the Sirus installed into(above) the Nav unit.

Your Sirus kit will have a new antenna to replace the one for Nav, as it has all together (Nav, Sat).

There has been several posts on both here and Rennlist with pics on how to do the install.

I however, let my dealer do it (even though not approved by PCNA) and had them enable it via the PWIS tester.

You'll find that with the antenna location, drop-outs happen often, more so under tree lined roads.

I'd like to see if I can use the new XM housing on the '09 series to mount a Sirius antenna. That would resolve all the drop-outs I have as well as others who've done it.

Look in Rennlist 997 forum and search for Sirus or 1080addict username.

    Regards,

    Deanski

Hasn't the 09 model got the XM housing on the engine lid at the rear? If so that a big rewire for the XM antenna cable.

  8. Thanks for the post, but this is already common knowledge and i've discussed it a number of times on other threads. The map data is in fact 2006 on the DVD , so its actually even more outdated. The reason Porsche badged the DVD as 08.2007 was because it is now only available as part of a 4 disc update kit whereas it was available as a separate MAP update on its own previously. You may be interested to add your votes to the poll I started , as a means of getting Porsche to release a newer update.

Did you know that Porsche have just released a new map for the PCM 1, can you believe it PCM 1!!!

  9. I've been trying to get my computer turned on at the local dealer but it isn't happening. We used the techniques found here for the PIWIS but still nothing. I can't say enough about the dealer as they've been very patient with me but i can't impose anymore.

So now I'm asking if anyone has a PST2 in the Greenville SC area and would perform this feat of magic for a fee.

I assume you/they entered the order code into the DME prior to attempting to change the instrument cluster?

Yeah, and it looked all good, just no display.

Have you had the switch fitted?

  10. Hmmm reading deeper into the TSB, it appears to imply that, for a C4 with BOSE, the Navigation DVD drive needs to be mounted vertically and goes beside the BOSE amplifier. It also states in the TSB parts list that there are different Navigation DVD drive units for vertical (997-642-139-02) versus horizontal (997-642-137-02) installations. Obviously those part numbers are old and most likely superseded, but this all would seem to tell me that I need a different (vertical-spec) Navigation DVD drive other than than the one listed above which, as far as I can tell from research is a horizontal-only unit... Can anyone clarify or confirm this?

Are you reading the replies to your post.? ...I already covered this earlier. The parts kit you purchased is from a cayenne , as I explained previously the cayenne has a horizontal mounted DVD unit that sits under the drivers seat. The part numbers are shared across vehicle platforms where there are no installation or hardware issues preventing it. Therefore the cayenne part is also suitable for HORIZONTAL mount installations in the Cayman, Boxster and 911. I assume you have read the cayman club installation and seen the pictures of where the horizontal mounted DVD (navigation ) unit fits in the car. This is the same location for the boxster and 911 vehicles fitted with horizontal mount Navigation and CD units. If you have checked on your own vehicle and established that there is insufficient space to install the navigation unit horizontally or fit the CD unit, then you will either need to improvise your own bracket and installation or buy the vertical mount DVD navigation unit. From memory I beleive there is space for a single horizontally mounted unit ( CD or NAV) under the main cover in the front trunk. If you are not concerned about having an OEM installation it is possible the Navigation unit could fit horizontally somewhre else and the Cd changer be substituted for a Dension or mobridge unit. The cables you refer to are the OPTICAL waveguide cables or MOST cables as some refer to them. These connect the Navigation, Amplifier and CD changer together in series , so they can all communicate back to the main PCM. Porsche make different versions of the cable depending on how many MOST devices are installed. It is possible to convert the cables if you have suitable spare plugs , the main concern is ensuring there are no open ends. The CD NAV and AMP also need to be connected in the correct order in the MOST loop , if a component is out of sequence errors can occur with operation.

Thanks Berty I assumed he was going to buy a vertical dvd unit

  12. Hello Dear Community Members!

Please have a look on these two Navigation-DVD's for Europe:

    162d578f00f5.jpgef1c01b72531.jpg

The former has been supplied with my car and the latter is the part of "997 044 901 50" Porsche Multipack 08/2007 EU PCM 2.1 (911, Boxter, Cayman) update kit. The total binary comparsion of these two DVD's, recently done by me, showed that they are absolutely 100% identical !!!.

Conclusion: by the time of this post the latest date of Navigation-DVD Europe is 05.2007.

Warning: Dear Users of Navigation-DVD Europe 05.2007, don't spend your money to buy "997 044 901 50" Porsche Multipack 08/2007 EU PCM 2.1 (911, Boxter, Cayman) update kit in order to make an update of your current navigation map. The update kit does not contain any new map and POIs although it's dated 08.2007...

The same is true for the NA (USA) DVD the contents of 05.2007 (Supplied with MY2008 cars) is the same as the 08.2007 (Sold by the parts department) for those wishing to upgrade from a version prior to 05.2007.

To correctly identify the DVD unit for an 08 C4S would require a VIN as there are two different versions of 997-642-139-xx but you are correct needing the vertical unit.

  14. Thought this may have been the case. The MOST loop is designed to connect each device in series and then terminate back at the head unit. By removing the CD changer you have broken the return link back to the head unit and to the next device (the Bose amplifier). There are termination adapters available to allow you to re make the ends from Male to Female plugs to suit the device you are connecting to, but you need to maintain polarity as each device has a twin connection (one in and one out). Possibly the simplest way to fix this problem is to get a single fibre optic cable and terminate both ends into a female plug , then attach this plug in place of the Cd changer to the now free end you have created. I beleive you can buy the fibre optic cable , plugs and adapters freely from either VW or someone like Dension (incar audio). The fibre optic is plastic strands but you do need to make sure its not kinked or crushed and the ends are not made dirty when you terminate them in the plug. The official Porsche route is to replace the current fibre optic cable with one suited for a bose only application , in truth its just a simple cable with a specific termination to allow the head unit to connect directly to the BOSE amp.

  15. Order goes in tomorrow (C2S, Silver, Sport PASM / LSD, Heated Sport Seats, Fire Extinguisher, black dials, no badge, carpet mats), so I want to start a thread outlining the typical "DE oriented" specifications / updates.

I understand the 2009 Sport PASM / LSD springs are shorter and stiffer, which is a good thing. Also that the valving / software is updated based on what Porsche learned from PASM 1, the GT3, and the latest GT2 suspensions. That's also good thing.

The sways are thicker, but does anyone have any specification on them and is it possible the fronts are adjustable? I'm guessing not. Any idea if GT3 sways are a direct fit (they weren't in the 2007 as new drop links were needed). I'm going to stick with stock for a while, but this thread may be a good place to collect this information for everyone.

Here are some updates / mods:

    1. Software. Doesn't look like anyone lists software yet for the 2009 DFI engines. Any information on possible gains, product development time lines, etc.?

    2. Exhaust. I saw some posts and it looks like many more options than ever before in a 997 - almost like my 964 was. Primary or secondary bypass. In my 2007 C2S, the best-for-me combination was X51 headers, 200 cell, and stock mufflers along with Softronic. Sounded great, gave a little more performance. I'm guessing sound levels of the secondary bypass is going to be high. I once had a full aftermarket header / cat / muffler system, but removed it as it was just too loud for around town. Thoughts / observations from those that have seen / heard the various options?

    3. Intake. I tried an alternative intake on my 2007 and sent it back. Was not happy with it and remain concerned about oiled filters (had a fouled MAF in the past on a pre-oiled filter). The dyno charts are promising - anyone have data on a combination of intake and exhaust? Right now I'm leaning toward a primary bypass and intake and would be interested to know what that combination produces for gains.

    4. Brake pads - I used to run Yellow 29s up front and Black 14s at the back due to the brake bias. Anyone know how the 2009 with Sport PASM suspension / LSD and PSM's Brake assist and brake system pre-filling. Wondering if the bias is more neutral where you'd get Yellows all around or stick with the Yellow / Black combination? If Bias is improved, then maybe Yellow 29s or PFC 97s all around will be optimal.

    5. Alignment. I understand with the new lower suspension we can get upwards of -1.4 degrees of camber. Not enough for track, but much better than the old suspension that maxed out at about -0.8 degrees. Will have to add GT3 control arms to get to -2.5 or so.

    6. The new wheels look great and I'm guessing they are pretty light. Still have my 19x8.5 / 19x11 Volks with Cups and 18x9 / 18x12 Fikses with Hoosiers as my wheel / tire choices. Will have to see if the new stiffer and lower suspension likes 18s or 19s better.

    Thanks!

Re: Software speak to Scott at Softronic as I believe he has a package for the 997.2 even though his website hasn't been updated yet.

  16. Hi,

I am getting a washer fluid low indication but when I check the refill area in front it is full. When i try to use the washer the wipers turn on but no water comes out though I can hear the pump.

It has been extremely cold outside and we have been in freezing temps the last few weeks, was wondering if somehow the lower part of the water bottle might be frozen and hence the indicaton even though the reservoir is full, any ideas , suggestions?

    thanks.

I have know this fault to occur if you use distilled water to fill the reservoir.
