  1. The C4 and C4S parts are already in the parts lists.

If you order a MY2009 C2 right now you will likely see it it in September. I suspect the C4 and C4S are not far behind.

A little birdy told me that....the C4, C4S and Targa 4/4S will not be announced until June 25th for C4/4S and July 28th for the Targa 4/4S, with the US model launch cars being September 20th, C2/C2S and October 25th for the C4/C4S and Targa 4/4S.

Why are there separate announcements and launch dates, yet the dates are so close together? Why not just do one big announcement for all C models?

    They always do this....

  3. Example of what I'd like to know is what are the options for customizing the alarm, window operations, etc... Creature comfort things. Isn't there something like that which you can do with the PST2?

EDIT - It's the "coding" menus which really scare me :o

Side note - I did mess around with the "drive links" in a couple of the modules. It's pretty **** cool to turn fans on and off and the like :) (like a kid in a candy store)

If you start up the PST2 with the PC-card removed you can run the program in Simulation Mode. Then you can play to your heart's content without risk of messing anything up.

And you think the PST2 is complicated, just wait until you play with a PIWIS :o

  4. +1 Agree with the below.... if the car has been near any of those car washes that use a caustic spray to remove the brake dust then this is where damage can be done.

Wheel cleaner is likely the culprit.

    Wheel cleaner = evil.

I have a 997 with roughly 9000 miles on it and I've noticed that all four of my stock brake calipers are no longer the same black color as when the car was new. Rather they have an uneven discoloration to them, making them appear more grayish. Is this typical? I don't "ride" the brakes, but I'm worried that I may be overheating them.... The discs seem fine...

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks,

    Dave

has the car been tracked ? This is normal for calipars that get v.hot (re tracked car) - not normal for even fast road use. Are the rears the same as the fronts ?

  5. Does anyone know where to get the black inserts for the windscreen that go in the roll bar (behind the seats, not the center piece)? Do they have a part number?

I should also ask how the windscreen is actually supposed to be mounted. I looked and I don't have any holes behind the seats in the roll bar. Are these some pieces that just clip on or would I have to drill holes into the roll bar?

As you can tell I am not familiar with the windscreen product at all. I just have the center glass and I would like to add the other 2 pieces. Any help with preparing the roll bar for windscreens is highly appreciated.

    Thanks,

    azzar0.

    They just clip in:

    Left: 986 561 583 00 01C

    Right: 986 561 584 00 01C

They are around $117 each. Try ebay as they sometimes turn up there.

  6. Go drive it. One mans harsh ride is another mans daily driver. I drove a prepped STI with 650/550lbs springs with Tein Flex coilovers everyday and thought it was fine. Other people rode in my car and called their dentist after getting out.

I 1000% hear what you are saying, but in this case the local dealer will have to trade one of their cars for this car, as its not currently local. And i'd feel like a bit of an arse if they went to all that work and I said "nope, rides bad", so I thought i'd ask for two pennies from whomever.

I like the ride of the Boxster S's, 986 or 987. Comparing the 986S to 986, honestly, I think the S rides better on bad roads, which has always perplexed me.

A hard ride isn't necessarily a bad thing unless you live in NY state where the roads are terrible. There are pros and cons to the wider wheels depending on what you intend to do with your car. I like the ride on the Boxster S and BTW the Orange S version comes with 19" wheels, not the 18"

  7. Hi,

My PASM and Sport buttons have stopped working. The onboard computer shows PASM indicator failure and Durametric gives error C156 "Communic. PASM control unit" in the PSM area.

My car is an April 2006 S, just out of warranty. Has anyone seen this before? I have checked the PASM fuse (C9) and it looks fine. Where is the PASM control unit (to check for loose connectors) If I need to replace the PASM control unit will the ECU need to be updated in order to recognise it?

    Thanks.

Have you recently done any mods to the car?

  8. Since this is the best Porsche OBD II tool we have found (short of spending thousands of dollars on a PST2 or PIWIS) I thought it would be good to show folks what comes in the Professional Kit.

I assume everyone that buys a Durametric Professional Kit gets what I got...

Nice carrying case and what is inside

    post-1-1208801882_thumb.jpg post-1-1208801111_thumb.jpg

You get the Software CD and short install instructions.

4 Porsche specific OBD II cables (clockwise from the top left): cable for early 993, 964, 944S2, 968, 928 with older round connector, cable for later model 993 with OBD II standard connector,

special adapter cable for use on 2002-2008 factory race cars with Motronic 3.1, and the standard OBD II cable for all the 9x6, 9x7, and Cayenne cars.

    post-1-1208801115_thumb.jpg

Of course the Enthusiast Package would include only the standard OBD II cable for all the 9x6, 9x7, and Cayenne cars and the Software CD.

These folks have really come a long ways in providing a great tool for Porsche shops and enthusiasts (like us :) ) - IMHO

I agree a big step forward in how the kit was in the old days (yes I am old)

Anyhow Loren with regards to "(short of spending thousands of dollars on a PST2 or PIWIS)" shouldn't the 'or' be replaced by 'and a' ?

  9. Hey guys I need some help on a simple question that I haven't found an answer using the search feature. I currently have added XM sat radio using XM's FM modulator. It works OK however I want to 'hardwire' it via the antenna connection at the radio so that I don't have to constantly search and find unused FM frequencies to get the SAT feed into the radio as I move from one listening area to another.

Now for the dumb question. Where exactly is the radio? Is the radio installed internally and part of the PCM (and the antenna connection is in the rear of the PCM unit)? Before I remove it and look to see if there is an antenna connection on the back, I thought I would ask the question. I can see how the radio could be mounted anywhere in the car and then tie into the PCM to act as an interface to the radio hardware so that is the reason for my question.

If it is in the PCM and it will have to be removed to gain access to the antenna connection, is there any write ups on the board that someone can steer me towards that lays out what is needed to remove it (2005, 997-S with navigation package)? I have removed in the past the 2 side panels just to get a quick look at the PCM however have not gone any further with what is involved to get the complete PCM unit out of the center console.

    Thanks in advance.

    This should help:

    Radio/PCM Removal

  10. Item 2 on each list.

    For MY05-07 Oil/Filter change is "After 20,000,60,000, 100,000, 140,000 miles (30,000,90,000, 150,000, 210,000 km) etc."

    For MY08 Oil/Filter change is "After 24,000, 60,000, 96,000, 132,000 miles etc. / 40,000, 100,000, 160,000, 220,000 km etc."

That's what it says but I thought Porsche reduced the mileage for MY08 not increased it.

I have checked, the checklist that is posted is 'Minor Checklist 2', there should also be a 'Minor Checklist 1' if you don't have it give me a shout.

  11. We have added downloadable PDFs for new Porsche Maintenance Checklists.

They cover Major, Minor, Additional, and Annual service for US/Canada cars.

    They are available for:

    MY05 - MY07 Boxster/Cayman (987/987c)

    MY08 Boxster/Cayman (987/987c)

    MY05 - MY07 Carrera (997)

    MY08 Carrera (997)

    MY07 TT (997)

    MY08 TT (997)

These new downloadable versions can be printed and will only be available to our Contributing Members.

You will find them in the Maintenance Checklist section

Loren, they don't seem to cover the oil changes as I thought the 08 models were more frequent, are these are on a seperate schedule?

  12. How to program automatic door locks when my car does not have the Sports Crono Package is the question. My car is a 997 model.

As I understand it, this will have to be done at a OPC dealership. Unfortunately my OPC dealership did not know the official procedure for doing this was

I explained to them that I thought that this was done through the use of the PIWIS tool. Not sure if this is correct, as they were unable to find the functionality for setting the automatic door locks in the PIWIS tool.

Reading through the TSB for the 996 model (TSB 9687) the procedure explains using the PST2 tool. Does anyone know if the procedure and tool is the same for the 997?

    I appreciate any helpful comments.

    Many thanks

    John

It is more complicated than before and you need either a PIWIS or an aftermarket product. I am surprised the OPC doesn't know how to do it.

The aftermarket product is remoteKey and is made by mods4cars.
