  1. Here some shots of the screens showing the cell carrier and signal strength. sorry for the poor quality of the pics...

(ps... the MOST loop was fine with the tooki. I also have the Dennison GW500/ipod and Porsche Nav in the loop with the tooki)

    Main screen

    screen%20main.JPG

Pushing the Tel putton gets this screen

    screen%20tele.JPG

If you press MAIN and TRIP together at the same time what does it show?

(From the next page) Also if you then scroll down to the Telephone module and press the right hand knb what does it then show?

Have you also thought about putting the mic in the steering column where the grill for the stock mic goes?

  2. Installed the tooki today. Works like a charm. my address book contains about 60 entries and i had access to all. Signal was clear on both sides of the conversation. Very, very pleased. Use the PCM buttons to dial, the call/haang-up buttons to make and end calls. All intergated and you almost wouldn't know you were using Bluetooth

Do you have any photos of the tooki unit itself and what power supply did you wire it to, switched or constant supply ?

  3. How do you remove the head light nozzle that protrudes through the bumper? Is it just a case of tugging?

It's mounted from within the bumper so you will need to whip that off first.

You're not tinkering already are you?

    Pop

The washer jet is mounted inside the bumper, however I just want to remove the silver nozzle head not the complete washer system.

ps. Yes I have been tinkering..... I have set of deviating washer nozzles on the way from Eric at Bumperplugs.

  4. I don't see the 2004 550 SE's selling at a premium price in the aftermarket. Nor do I expect to see the current Orange Boxsters sell for a price premium in the near aftermarket future.

I'm not selling mine anyhow nor do I expect a premium. I am not one of those lucky aka greedy people who bought a GT3 or GT3 RS and then sold it back to a dealer plus a tidy profit.

You should always buy a Porsche to own and enjoy, speculate on the stock market and not the future resale value of a Porsche.

  5. On most cars stiff pedal and difficulty engaging gears usually points to a clutch fluid/hydraulic problem. A failing clutch usually begins to slip in higher gears. Is Porsche any different? Mine has not gone out yet.

'98 Box, 73k miles in LA traffic and race tracks. Still original clutch so far.

...another sign of the clutch going would be the smell, similar to burning rubber.

  6. Yet another limited edition from Dr Porsche:

    RS60 Spyder

Nick this is an impressive car to say the least!!!

Any idea of when it is going to be released in the US or a ballpark of the MSRP

Man...This is the car I want!

March 2008 is the global release date and the only MSRP on the press release is 63,873 Euros , the S base price 53,500 Euros (pre-tax). You can do the sums the base S price in the US is $55,700. My 2008 LE S was $59,900 MSRP. So I would expect this to come in between $62-64K.

  7. I'm really happy with this thing.

Note to all that it's available from Suncoast

Although I paid someone to install it on my 997, I installed it myself on my wife's Cayenne.

If people are interested, I'll post a DIY. It's a 30 minute job, tops. (Wish I hadn't paid $220 for the 997's install... )

    tmc

I'm always interested in saving money and avoiding the dealers, so post away.

  8. Yes, absolutely. I checked (and re-checked) that all connections were sound. My next step is to disconnect the battery to see if that "resets" the head unit/amp, you never know! I'm slightly concerned about disconnecting the battery, wondering whether the alarm might go off or other untoward tghings with computers etc when I reconnect!

Don't think it's a fuse, as the radio comes on, the CDC4 changer works, but I only get low base output to the door speakers, and not the dashmount ones!

When you did the speaker test, you did reconnect the fiber optic cable?

Yes, disconnecting and reconnecting has been known to work.

  9. Hi guys,

Just a early Thanksgiving afternoon thought....

I currently have a 986 and am thinking about eventually upgrading to a 987S...I was checking the Porsche website and the price for the added optionals make me wonder - are they really worth it or can I do better with aftermarket parts? A basic model goes for $55,700.00 while the Sport (Porsche configured) goes for $66,185.00 (thats the price of a nicelly equipped '04 911 4S !!!)

    Just food for thought...

There are always choices, however, some options cannot be fitted after market and some are dead easy:

Those which cannot or are cost prohibitive include:

    PCCB

    PASM

Sports Chrono (although there are options on flashing if you do not like the chrono clock)

Full leather or leather options (with the exception of steering wheel, gear shifter and e-brake)

Some exclusive options you cannot obtain the parts unless you provide a cars VIN that had the options fitted at factory

Some options to consider and are available as aftermarket install are:

    Sports shifter

    Spacers

Painted interior options (Check out bumperplugs website)

    PCM

    PSE

    Aerokit

The are lots of others to consider, but remember its your money, if you are prepared to wait order the car you want and don't pick a car off the dealers lot that you are going to change out the options that you do not want after you drive it off the lot.

  10. Sorry, I should have been more specific. The MSRP was $106,000 last year, has it gone up 20%?

I have checked the 07/08 arder guides and the PCNA website:

    2007:

    GT3 - $106,000

    GT3RS - $123,000

    2008:

    GT3 - $107,500

    GT3RS - $124,900

However, my previous comment still applies, don't expect to pay sticker price unless you are one of those special favoured people who Porsche calls with a slot!!!

  11. The MY08 fact book that Loren recently posted shows the base 997 GT3 MSRP at $128,300, and the RS at $161,435. Are those numbers typos? Does anyone have any data points?

If you can get a 'slated' slot you could possibly get MSRP. However, certainly on the 07 allocation the dealers were ordering the cars registering them then adding $20-25K above the MSRP. I have noticed cars moving between states, but they are getting away with this.

I am sure that the same will be true with the 08 models, and I have also noticed the trade in 'slots' where a potential buyer pays for the slot then also has to by the car!!!

  12. Hi Everyone,

does anyone no of a distributor or manufacturer of Carbon fiber products.

I am interested in purchasing a carbon fiber air intake box for my 987 Boxster.

I have looked all over the net without any luck ,hope someone has an idea where I can find such a product or knows of a company that will build one.

    secuuda

You could trying calling Werks Composites (www.werksone.com) a spin off from champion motorsports.

They do make carbon fiber boxes for 997s but they may also have an airbox for the 987.

  13. Thanks Nick. I think I'll setup a relationship with Danbury to service my new 987. The are 1.5 hours from me, but the local dealer has a horrible reputation. Danbury seemed straight up and they are a Premier dealer... whatever that means. I just need a service dept. will do what they say they'll do - hopefully Danbury is it.

Good luck with your new car Nick. It looks great!!

Thanks... good luck with yours. By the way the other nameless place is but 5 minutes from mine. Danbury is 45 minutes from here but worth the drive. If you are nearer to Pepe in NY state they are pretty good too and their workshop is larger than Danburys. But all in I like the more personal service of Danbury.

  14. Nick, it looks like you bought your LE from Danbury Porsche. I ultimately didn't buy from them, but they were one of the dealers on my short list and I thought they were one of the best dealers I worked with. How was your experience with them?

I'm also thinking of using them for the maintenance of my 987 and wonder if anyone has any thoughts on Danbury?

They are really the best of the local bunch, although I do like the parts department at Greenwich (albeit I wouldn't trust them with anything else).

Out of the local dealers, the sales guys at Danbury went that extra mile to make sure all my requests were carried out to the letter. I have also used the service department with no problems to date. Unlike the previously mentioned more local dealership where they treated my wife like an idiot (she is an engineer so they were on a loser to start off) and tried to recommend extra unnecessary work was required before they had even inspected the car!!! Hope that helps.

  15. Updated...

I have a PIWIS, PST2, Durametric Software, and Car Code OBD-2 software.

I am in Roseville California (near Sacramento).

    Hello Loren,

So you now have the Piwis, it is very hard to get from Porsche unless you are a factory Dealer or a Real Auto Repair shop with to many strings attached.

I have seen a Bootleg version of it, but a word to the wise, the Fed,s are starting to look at shops or individuals with counterfit Factory Electronic

equipment. Ask me how I know.

We are all ears....let me guess you are a Fed ?

  16. HI,

    - PANAMA.

    THANKS FOR HELP,

    ROB

The disc for America covers these countries:

    Brasil

    Canada

    Hawaii

    Mexico

    Puerto Rico

    USA

the part number for the latest disc (05/2007) is 997.642.257.05 (Works in PCM 2.1 (Boxsters/Caymans/911 unsure if same for Cayenne)).

  17. Hi everyone this is my first post and unfortunately its a posting about a bit of a problem I'm having.

I recently purchased a 2006 Cayman S with has PCM 2.1, PASM, TPMS, and Sport Chrono Package Plus as options.

I'm trying to turn the daytime running lights on but when I go into the Main Menu and press set, there are only two choices available to me, Main Display or PCM. There is no choice for Individ. Memory which is where the setting for the DRL is supposed to be.

Am I missing something or doing something wrong... OR is there something wrong with my PCM system. I thought Individ. memory came with the Sport Chrono Plus option w/ PCM.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks

    Charles

You aren't doing anything wrong, the Individual Memory should be on the same screen as the Main and PCM options but I do remember that you have to have a key in the ignition and the ignition has to be on for the option to be there, try that first.

If not then check that your car does indeed have Sports Chrono Plus, option 640 (Check the options sticker) if it does then perhaps it is a PCM coding issue.
