  1. clean out the MAF, and run some good gas if not 101 octane if you can. and get on the car more often. I see you said you don't drive it hard, I had a good freind that was a service advisor at Porsche. People would come in all the time saying their car is not running good and sputtering, it was due to driving the car like a grandma ;) just flog it more often and drive for what it was built for. Not all the time, just a little bit.

  2. Yes, you do have the wrong part. The cam position sensor is on the head itself (you are pointing at the valve cover), on top, almost directly above the part you are looking at. I'll try to dig up a picture when I get home this evening. Manwhile, anone else who wants to chime in (1999Porsche911) please feel free.

So is that part with the wire coming out of it the Cam actuator? I replaced the gasket around it (even though it still leaks a little, that picture was taken before I replaced the part)

    Loren... input??? :drive:

  3. P0441 Fuel Tank Ventilation System - Above Limit

    - EVAP canister purge valve open

    - Pressure sensor faulty

    P1531 Camshaft Adjustment, Bank 1

    - Open circuit in triggering wire.

    - Open circuit in B+ supply.

    - Actuator faulty

BTW... all the fault codes are listed here.

Loren, I did order the purge vavle, SUnset said they sell quite a few of them..

I am going to replace the actuator becuase the car is starting to act like the Variocam is not really kicking in... is that an easy process?? :drive:

  4. sometimes easier to say on drivers side or passenger side ;)

the one I need to replace is drivers side which is easy to get to, but what about taking it out? should I worry about that?

No, Bank 1 is on the driver's side, at the front of the engine, the end nearest the transmission. I have only seen it with the engine out of the car. If you have access to it, the only thing I can think of to mention is don't re-use the O-ring. I really don't think you can get at it with the engine in the car, though.

getting to the driver side one is easy! take out the rear fender liner and it is right there! Now the passenger side one is a PAIN! even the o-ring is a pain to get at!! :cursing:

Wow. How different is your car than mine? I have no frnder liner back there, just sheet metal. I can see the cam position sensor, or at least the things around it. No way I would be able to reach it. You are not confusing it with the actuator for the variocam, which is right there, are you?

    Patrick

i got a photo to upload.. maybe I think this is the wrong part

    Picture_008.sized.jpg

    Picture_009.sized.jpg

if i am wrong.. where is the cam sesnor :cursing:

  6. I would def. lean towards the Eclipse units for the car. Great looks, easy to use, great sound quality. I have had 2 of them in other cars. Just got a new one for my 996 (ANV5435). Speaker wise, i would look at Focal, they make a great setup for Porsche cars. Bass wise.. alot of options, just depends how much space you want to lose. If you are in the SW,west coast, or PNW part of the US i have some references for you also

  7. Well i had to go and get tabs for the car and have my emissions done. came up with two codes p1531 (cam sensor i believe) and the other is P0441: Evaporative Emission Sysyytem Incorrect Purge Flow

anyone know what this is??

my car is a 1999 C2 6 speed with Fabpssed mufflers, headers, cat-bypass, fab-speed intake with BMC filter and Uni-chip piggy back computer. :drive:

  8. Bruce,

I don't know if you figured it out, but the driver's side center radiator hose wraps around the driver's side lower radiator hose and then comes in toward the body. It has the low loop section to help get air out of the system and then loops in to clear properly in the body. If someone took a picture of this it would have been very helpful. I thought about it after I put my car back together, so I didn't have an opportunity to take the pic. Maybe Loren has a pic someplace he can add to the thread.

thanks for the reply! much appreciation! i will snap a pic of mine and see if I got it right :drive:
