  1. Great write-up, a few questions if you have the info:

    1) What is the torque specifications for each of the bolts?

    2) Why do you need to disconnect the battery?

    3) What is the "fabric protector & cleaner" for?

    BTW, they look great!

    1) I do not remember the spec now, but 48 or something. (as in workshop manual).

    2) You don't want to see 'seat belt warning light'!

    3) Colored seat belts get dirty sooner or later. Better to protect them from the beginning.

To answer your question (from PM),

Yes it Porsche OEM and you may get the best price from Sunset or SunCoast. Either way you can get them for around $400+ including shipping. Somehow seatbelts are hazard material, so shipping is expensive.

  2. 987 Seat belt replacement done

I installed matching speed yellow seat belts today, and very happy with the result. (As usual, my stealer wants $300+ just for labor, but it turned out to be less than 20 mins job including taking pictures) It was easy enough, 3 bolts each side. 0. Here is my Christmas gift, colored seat belts. 1. Disconnect the battery! 2. remove side-lining panel 2-1. remove a small screw outside 2-2 & 2-3 there are two plastic bolt & hook, shake it

  3. I was not lucky as Chris and yes my 99 busted @ 40k miles. I do drive aggressively but so did I with two previous miata's and a couple of Mercedes and bimmers. Reliablity alone, I wouldn't recommend to my firends or family, not to mention the pathetic services you generally get from Porsche dealers.

I'm crazy enough to buy another Boxster, but it has nothing to do with reliability. I strongly recommend you to get warranty for any year of Boxster.

Boxster is addictive. Proceed with caution!

  4. After following instructions in manual several times, I gave up.

It worked after garage door guy programmed it for me (with totally different way), but it stopped working after a week or so.

Did I miss something or should I see my dealer.

Any 987/997 owners have same experience??

  5. I have been using the plug in the passenger footwell for my 987 with the V1. I would like to hardwire but I have had the car for just over two weeks and I am trying to give myself a little time before I start with upgrades. I too would like to see a photo DIY on a 987.

I ended up with Escort Solo S2.

What a difference it makes without all the wires. The added benefit is that the LED color matches with others, and it automatically shuts off the LED until it detects new signals. (not easily visible to cops, esp at night).

  6. I'm not an expert on this, but I had the exactly same experience with my 99 Boxster.

After replacing MAF sensor, it became normal for 2months or so but finally the engine got blown off.

Sorry for replying with the worst case scenario, but I really hope no one has to go through my experience again. Check with reputable Porsche service, do not ignore it even if it seems back to normal.

  7. kevin,

the installer did not take out the head unit, he just wired it to the becker be6600 amp(he said it is a 4channels) in the front trunk. maybe i should ask him to re-wire to the head unit instead or just buy a new amp. would a 6 channels and 4 channels make any difference?? :(

Don't bother. No difference whatsoever in my experience.

That's why lots of people reselling rear speaker in fleebay.

  8. Am going to be storing my '05 997 for 60 - 90 days. Have just ordered Porsche battery maintainer (Sunset $105). Assume it plugs into cigarette lighter, not power outlet in passenger foot well. It this correct? Also, how do you run cord into car - crack window?

    Any input would be welcome.

    Thanks

Yes it plugs into cigarette lighter and the wire run through the gap below the door.

  9. Ok I did a major fu!&-up :censored: . I was swapping out the dash trim, using the suggestion for an earlier post to use a soldering iron to help remove the screws. I accidentally touched the dash and burned a small hole.

Has anyone ever used any of those vinyl/leather dashboard repair kits? I don’t want to have to replace the whole dash for a small little burn, yet can’t stomach it to leave it there for all to see. HELP

Good news: It's a relatively easy to fix leather. I've done a few times for my friend's Boxster with the kit from http://magicmender.com Very cheap, quality product. Impressive result.

Bad news: No matter how good the kit is, you will not get a perfect match because your leather is not same as original anymore. Try to blend with surrounding area.

    Good luck.
