  1. I have the ceramic brakes on my 997C2S and will be ordering winter tires and rims. My dealer tells me that 18" rims will fit and he confirmed this with PCNA when I expressed doubt. Is he right? I still have my doubts based on the size of my rotors and some comments made by other Porsche owners. Does anyone have definitive guidance? :help:

Why the worry? PCNA confirms it and have the dealer mount tires on the rims and wheels on the car.

  2. Hi all! I have 03 Cabrio with PSE. Unfortunately one of the mufflers is broken inside and makes a horrible sound. I had this fixed about 6 months ago, but now it is starting to make the same noise again so I am looking into a more final solution. Given this opportunity I would consider going for an aftermarket solution instead of buying a new PSE muffler from Porsche or Carnewal.

Ideally my goals for this "project" are:

    1. Keep the PSE button working somehow

    2. Have 997-look dual tips (instead of the PSE semi-dual tips) fitted somehow.

    Any suggestions?

I personally would have a new muffler installed under warranty and not worry about it. Why wasn't it replaced instead of being repaired?

  3. They don't call them "Car stealers" for nothing. Like everything dealing with them, you have to haggle the prices down and then ask for a PCA discount.

You're right about donating to this board because this board is like the having a hell of a lot of Porsche techs standing around waiting to give very good advice on your car. I try to donate twice a year because of the warm and fuzzy feeling I get when an answer is answered correctly and fast. My hat is off to Loren and Toolpants and the rest of you.

  4. I was reading on this forum on how to properly flush the cooling system and was wondering what damage would be caused if air was trapped in the system. I'm asking this because about a year and a half ago, my coolant tank cap became defective and I lost all my coolant. The dealer in the state where I was at the this happened put some coolant in the system and I was on my way. He did not vacuum the system but let the car take the coolant in as you would on a regular automobile. Now, I want to make sure the proper coolant is up to the Porsche standards as far as proper coolant mixture. The reason I'm a little concerned is because I read the procedure on this forum and I think this should be done in order to have proper corrosion protection in my coolant system. The dealer technician that fixed my car at the time seemed to be satisfied with his results by his method. Is it safe to do this method without the vacuum method? I don't think my vacuum cleaner is waterproof and the filter can't handle it either.

  5. HI, my 2004 Boxster has a problem with the dash illumination & number plate lights, I have checked fuse A5 & replaced the number plate lights, but this problem still exists. I am out of warranty now, so can any one help !!!!!!

If you have a 2004, your warranty will expire in 2008 in the month it was purchased or 50K miles. I suspect you might have a faulty light switch

  6. My 2005 997C2S (manual, coupe, RHD England) has sooty left hand side tailpipes.

I noticed other people have reported similar problems at other forums (rennteam, rennlist, etc).

Has anyone else had these problems?

My car is currently with my Porsche dealer for tests, but I would appreciate any comments, advise or experiences on this matter.

People report of high engine oil usage, something my car suffers from, and engine oil in certain exhaust ports.

    Thanks in advance.

    Uhmmm, that's an exhaust pipe.

It gets sooty no matter what car it is. Your ok and enjoy your ride

  7. I have a Porsche PET cd and I'm some what confused on looking at the info. In the remarks it has a 02- on one part number (p/n) and an 03- on the other p/n and the 03- has a model number M 450 in the model number. When I did a part search on this site, it came up for around $5K for the price. Is that the price for a PCCB brake disk? I need correct p/n's for the front and rear so I can order them to replace my brake rotors/disk because I have a warped one and I might as well change them all along with the new pads I have. Also need torque specs and p/n's for the screws that mount the rotors to the hubs. Can you help me out?

    TIA! :help:

  8. Yes, I am going to tint the old Boxster front windows. I don't care how it looks.. It has been 105 for 20 straight days in Dallas. If you park in uncovered parking while at work all day and live in this sort of climate, you have no idea how hot that leather is. Unbearable.

So, for 95$ tomorrow at lunch, I am tinting my 2 windows with this:

    S O L A R G E N I C S

    Worlds finest automotive film

    Heat Reduction 56%

    Lifetime Unlimited warranty

    Scratch Resistant Coating

    UV rejection 98%

Now, come to think if it, I've never noticed a 2 seat convertible with side tint, but I'm sure they exist, and 1 more will exist on the streets of Dallas tomorrow - hopefully running my A/C at less than full blast.

You might want to check out this before you tint because I've never heard of the tint you're about to slap on. I went with HP Quantum, the one with metal in it and it doesn't have that reflective look to it.

Here's the site; Window tinting and Quantum selection page
