Kind of a dumb question. Have a 98 Boxster that needs smog - took it to a shop & the guy says he'll do it but can't remember how to access engine. Is there an easy tutorial I can leave with the guy?

I have a 98 Boxster with a pretty significant vibration at highway speeds. I live outside Sacramento CA in Newcastle - wondering if I need to go Dealer only on alignment / wheel balance or if your basic tire shop like a Firestone or Goodyear has the capability to get it right. Would appreciate hearing from anyone - especially locally who can recommend a good shop.
