  1. Can't believe your dealer would say that. What a bunch of idiots. Thier is a positive terminal and a grounding plug in the rear engine compartment. Your owners manual will tell you exactly where. The only way to open hood is to juump it off via the terminals in the rear. Once running and the battery starts charging you will be able to open front hood. Happended to me first time I left a light on.

    Hi,

    I have a dead battery and can't open my hood to get to the battery for replacement or re-charge. The dealer advised me to use a 9 volt battery, link to ground and poke the other pole wire into the fuse box, relevant group, this will activate a current which will allow for the latch to operate. I have tried several fuses and I'm not sure which is the right one. Can someone help me? Is there any risk of blowing up the electronics, 9v 2 amp ..Thanks, ralf

    will a battery tender in the cigar lighter work?

  2. Anyone know where (North West England) I can get a key blank cut for my C4. All the spare keys were lost by previous owners. Got hold of a fob just need the blade and to get it programmed.

    Should I buy a cheap blade off ebay - will anyone cut & program this for me? Is it just main dealers who can do this or auto-electrical places?

    when i bought my new to me 2000 996, the car only came with one key.

    the mercedes dealer i bought it from had to order a key from porsche.

    i assume that porsche needed the vin# in order to create an exact duplicate.

    i had to take it to my local dealer for programming.

    so the answer is= your local p-car dealer.

  3. Thank you guys. This morning I mounted the Pagid oranges on the front and new Porsche OEM on the rear. Breaks fine. Pagids are always amazing, and I mount them a week before track day to get use to the fast braking. All seems fine, will keep them until after track weekend.

    Wheels look great too, don't know why I didn't do this sooner. Don't know how long it will last, or how it will stand to the soap and scrubs.

    I would be very careful about mixing matching different brake pads under any circumstances.

    There is not much difference between a panic stop on the street at 60mph and hard braking on your favorite racetrac.

    IMHO, different pads on a f/r basis will probably throw off whatever braking bias the good doctor has already built in.

  4. I have a 2000 996 Cab with Fikse wheels. I am looking for a new set of rear tires. My spec is 285/30/18 can anyone reccomend tires that will be quiet and give the best ride. I am in Alabama so they will be warm year around.

    I have a 2000 Cab with 18" wheels in the Atlanta area, also mostly warm the year round. I did a lot of research last summer and settled on Goodyear Eagle F1 GS D3 (not N-rated, but that is not an issue to me.

    I love the tires. One of my requirements was a relatively quiet ride at highway cruise. I got that, and great dry and wet handling. Solid and stable. I don't track the car, but do drive fairly agressively on occasion.

    My research was borne out when the December Car & Driver judged it as the top of the ultra high performance tires. You can probably find that at C&D online.

    you might want to look at the yokohama es100.

    had them on my 87, great tire!

  5. along those same lines................

    i just bought a 2000 996 w/12k miles on it.

    i have an 87 911 coupe presently for sale.

    my question is, while the 996 is superior to the 87 in just about every way, i'm starting to miss the nice exhaust note of the earlier car.

    while i do not want another loud car, i have an 83 sc race car for that, i would like an exhaust note that is just a bit sportier than my wife's audi.

    any suggeestions?
