  1. Howdy Everyone,

I just completed a clutch kit replacement (clutch disk, pressure plate). After getting everything installed everything seemed to work great until reverse stops working.

I climb under disconnect the linkage and reattach it and it will works fine for a few minutes. A few miles down the road it stops working again. When I put in the reverse gear its like first gear or its just not letting me get all the way over but it sure looks like when looking at the shifter. I can repeat this process several times with the same results.

So here I am pinging all those great minds on here for help or suggestions..

Fire away with any questions you may have to help troubleshoot..

Transmission was lowered on a tranny jack sat there and was raised back into position.

  2. No, the O2 sensors will not prevent the engine from firing. However, a bad coolant temp sensor reading may change the air/mixture so much that the engine won't fire up. If you do have sparks, I would check the coolant temp sensor and MAF connections.

If you do not have sparks, I would check the connections on the throttle body, crank position sensor, and cam sensors.

Where is this coolant temp sensor located? How many MAF sensors are there, I thought just the one that goes into the air box?

There are 4 bolts and one electrical connection to the throttle body.

  3. 2002 996 Carrera 3.6L

I dropped the engine/tranny. I needed to fix an oil fill tube and a rear left side wire harness issue. Car ran before the work. I now have the engine/tranny back in the car. I dont have the transaxles hooked up or the clutch bleed. The rear of the car is still up on stands. I wanted to try and start the car before reassembling everything. Well the car turns over but will not fire. The only idiot light that comes up on the dash is a temp sensor failure or something like that. I went back through the book and I seem to have everything hooked up. I know a motor needs four things to fire air, fuel, spark and compression. The fuel pump can be heard upon turning the key on. I get fuel to the connection on the top left side of the motor. The air box is removed. One thing I havent checked was spark. The spark plugs where change less than a month ago and it ran before. I dont recall removing anything that would remove the spark. Is there a connection at someplace that removes that from the coils that I could have disconnected.(I will check spark tomorrow).
Sorry guys I am really searching here. Not sure what exact info you all would need. The car has been sitting for about 3 weeks no fuel or power. Any suggestions onthungs to look for or try would be very helpful.

Ask for any info you may need and ill do my best to provide it. Thanks.

  4. As far as I know, that harness branch is not designed for plug and play replacement. Search in ebay for porsche 996 body harness and you will see the whole bundle comes with all the branches including the rear relay panel and DME connectors.

Just curious why you need to replace the whole branch?

Does anyone have any information of how or if its possible to replace the left rear engine compartment wire harness? This harness in the engine compartment plugs into the left side 02 sensors, lid release and license plate lights.

Looking at the schematic it shows one complete harness.. :cursing: :help:

Anyone ever have to replace this? Any ideas on how to replace

Porsche only made very large sections the main harness system as one piece, and those large sections tend to be very expensive as well as time consuming to replace. What problem(s) are you trying to solve by replacing it?

It appears that I had a short and melted the harness. This is in the back of the engine compartment.

  7. You can measure the size of the hole to make sure the part is right.

Thanks again Ahsai!. What would have been the harm of it being driven after these happened? :cursing:

It should create a major oil leak, with everything that entails. A larger question would be why it happened in the first place, these plugs simply do not fall out on their own..............

That sir is the real question. I do not know what would be the cause. I was at the track autocrossing, did a 360 and did not hit anything. Thats when this all happened.

The oil pressure and levels dropped but not to significant levels. There were no alarms or CEL indications.

It was drove off the track and retired for the day :(

They are metal are they not? So I really don't know how or why it came out.

  8. Is your car dropped? any aftermarket suspension? I have H&R coilovers and the rear's have some camber and I am noticing that my rear passenger side also has less thread than my driver side but its not as major as yours... My car is equiped with an LSD so I dont think the rear passenger tire gets more power than the rear driver...

Check the height from the ground to the border of the 1/4 pannel on both rear sides to see if maybe the car is more inclined on one side.

To the best of my knowledge all suspension is stock. I never did get to measure the car height before stopping at the tire store.
